A list of puns related to "Cosmo Films"
I just wanted to let everyone know about a new, '80s-feel sci-fi movie. I'm not involved with the project btw, I'm just a fan of it, and was waiting for over a year now to come out.
The time has come, and it's coming out tomorrow Friday, in select theaters and streaming. Almost no one knows about it, so I thought I make a post here. The film does have a small distributor attached to it, but not much marketing. It was shot for just $8000, using a $500 cinema camera (BMPCC). It was all the money the two brothers directors had, they put it on this project. Between the two of them they did the editing, audio design, and even the various VFX (only other person they hired was a musician). For that budget, usually others make a 5 minute short film. Cosmos is a 128 min feature film adventure.

When I was a young teen (late 2000s to early 2010s) I got really into a bunch of Cosmo Jarvis short films he had uploaded on YouTube. There's one in particular that was my favorite, but he's deleted all his old work on his channel and I cannot for the life of me remember the name of this one in particular. It might have been the names of two people? I'm unsure.
The film itself is about a man getting online and going to what seems to be a cam girl website and paying for a private call with someone, the woman is also played by the same man, but in lingerie. He says his girlfriend broke up with him and they dirty chat for a bit, until finally, he asked her if she has a bass guitar and if she could play it for him. She says she just so happens to have one despite not knowing how to play, and proceeds to play a riff that he dictates for the rest of the call until he finishes off and they hang up.
Does anyone know the name of the film, and ideally, where I could find it again since it's no longer on his channel?
I searched for his name in the posts on this subreddit, but it appears people only watch Possession which, despite the famously maniacal scene, isn't his best movie at all in my opinion. Is it film school curriculum or something? I'd love to discuss some of his newer works.
I also just want to let you all know about this absolutely incredible auteur if you don't already know him. I don't really want to spoil anything here (and I have a hard time imagining how to even start describing the movies), but maybe we can discuss the films in the comment section? He's famous for the unique acting style he uses. The films are very anti-commercial avant-garde. He uses the soundtrack in a completely crazy way too, full of gaps and sudden bursts of thematic music that is intense, "wrong" and absolutely perfect at the same time. Szamanka and Cosmos might be described as "psychological thrillers", but that's because he somehow manages to make movies about people going nuts visceral and incredibly intense. They don't really fit in any genre at all, definitely not the thriller genre. But they are a thrill to watch for sure.
The first movie I saw by him was Szamanka. It's such a physical experience watching the movie. It's unfathomably intense - like Cosmos - and somehow both very surreal and very real. It felt like how I imagine flying a jet plane at high speed feels. The first five minutes after watching it, I thought it was garbage. Then I realized it was absolutely incredible. I've since watched it many times and many other of his films too - I'm lucky that the local film festival in Copenhagen has someone who is obsessed with him too. Zulawski sadly passed away in 2016, but not before finishing his masterpiece Cosmos just a few months before. It's based on a book by polish avant-garde author Witold Gombrowicz, and I was so blown away by the bizarre characters and story that I had to read the book afterwards. I've never seen such an accurate adaptation of such a crazy book. Turns out, the dialogue and pacing of the movie is often literally from the book. Even somewhat abstract scenes from the book, such was when a girl is lying on a bed in a wrong manner, is PERFECTLY executed in the movie. Highly, highly recommended if you like movies with people that get completely unhealthily obsessed with things and/or other people.
Really hoping this subreddit has some people that love his movies too! I want to talk to other peopl
... keep reading on reddit β‘Today marks the release day of the Cosmos sci-fi indie film, shot on the original pocket camera, for just $8k. I watched the film late last night as it became available on streaming (I'm not affiliated with them btw). It was shot in ProRES LT, to save SD card space (that's how much frugal they were). It looked perfect on my 4k 75" TV. The film is the passion project of two brothers directors and just 3-4 actors. The movie is about an intercepted signal from outer space.
I'm in AWE for its cinematography, camera work, acting, epic music, well-flowed editing, lighting. It really felt that it was a young Spielberg that directed it, but with fewer actors/locations. If you're a fan of the '80s sci-fi films, you should watch this. If I had to nitpick something, I'd say that the movie ran too long (128min). It needed a tighter editing. But other than that, it's a solid 7.5+/10 for me. A real 8+/10 if the editing was tighter. Not only it's the best film I've watched so far using BMD cameras, but in my top-3 list of the best low budget films I ever watched (along "Primer" and "Coherence"). Having said that, I noticed a lot of 1/10 votes on imdb, and all of these appeared around the same time, so I smell foul play. I hope it's not some filmmaker jealous of what the directors have achieved. This film was their sweat & blood for 4 years now.
Guardians of the Galaxy is already a huge franchise, with Rocket and Groot being beloved characters. And with how well movies like Zootopia, Sing, Jungle Book, (and likely The Lion King) do at the boxoffice, I feel a Guardians movie with all talking creatures could also hit it big with audiences, especially kids.
Thoughts?
Cosmos is an indie sci-film that was released this weekend on streaming and theatrically. It's about a signal from space intercepted by 3 engineers/scientists, while geeking out at night and while off the clock from their day space-related job.
The film was written/directed by two brothers for just $8k (all the money they had, pretty much). For such a low budget they were miraculously able to recreate the '80s sci-fi feel. Great production values, cinematography, acting etc. Please be a bit patient with it though, as it's a bit of a slow burner, but it does pays off at the end.
In terms of the science itself, it's both realistic and spotty, depending on the subject. For such a budget, I'd say it's understandable. Personally, I highly recommend the film, I really enjoyed it. I'm not affiliated with it btw, but I'm a big fan (I come from the low budget filmmaking side of things) and I wish more people know about it.
