I think this is a genuinely unpopular opinion. Iβve been using my quarantine to watch every Chris Farley movie (the only one I havenβt seen yet is Almost Heroes and Iβm lowkey not looking forward to it much after Beverly Hills Ninja, for various reasons Iβll explain later!)
Anyways, I really like Coneheads because for the whole movie, pretty much no one is treating Farley poorly or like a punching bag, and thatβs super refreshing. Heβs also really hot in it, Iβm sorry (Iβm actually not.) I like the film in general, itβs funny, and weirdly wholesome, and though I know itβs not Peak Cinema, I enjoy it, and Iβve seen films that have won best picture that I liked less.
Tommy Boy is amazing and one of my favorite films, and I think itβs peak David Spade and Chris Farley together - I used to watch it every week when I was depressed after moving out of my dadβs place, having lost my mom not long prior.
However, David Spadeβs performance in Black Sheep was super fun? I love theβ¦ noises he makes?? Itβs just super funny. I think heβs an adorable dweeb. Of course the acting was better, and the characters were more nuanced in Tommy Boy, but I just like Steve a little more than Richard, due to Spadeβs acting choices (theyβre pretty similar characters, anywaysβ¦)
I think Chrisβ performance in Tommy Boy is severely underrated, his emotional scenes (as few as they are) break my heart and I really wish he got to diversify his career more before his untimely death. And again, though Tommy Boy is one of my all time favorite films, my enjoyment of a Chris Farley film is directly correlated to how nice he was treated (both the character and the man, the myth, the legend.) Every instance of insulting him for arbitrary or physical things lowers my enjoyment by a (minute) 1%.
And thatβs one of the big reasons I didnβt like Beverly Hills Ninja. I know behind the scenes was pretty cruel, and the script wasβ¦ uhhhhghfhβ¦ felt wrong. To say the least. (More than a little racist. Not in a hateful way, just an ignorant way. I know this was a sign of the times, but that doesnβt mean I have to dig it. I know Iβm not the target audience for these films, though I still watch them :β) ) Poor Chris, whose strength in acting comes from being relentlessly likable, couldnβt even sell the character of Haru as not uncomfortable and creepy. As such, although Iβll watch it, and enjoy seeing Mr. Farley, I donβt think Iβll really enjoy Almost Heroes for similar reasons?

I know people are commending Dwight online but you donβt do that to anyone you trying to βspiritual leadβ. You donβt confront and embarrass him. He had no business being on the show. And any respected pastor who have said no. Guy loves being on tv and it shows
