A list of puns related to "Charles Atlas"
The TVTropes Page, for those interested
Briefly: the "Charles Atlas SuperPower" character is the character who either doesn't, or who can't gain power and effectiveness via the "normal" ways that people in their 'verse gain competence - so instead they go out and just start lifting weights, running laps, and punching boards with their bare hands for 22 hours a day non-stop, until by sheer physical capacity they can do whatever the other normal characters in the series can do, just through sheer unrelenting effort and stubborn hard work.
Some of this sounds very monk-like, and in-general it does tend to be - but it doesn't have to be. In PF, a Charles Atlas character would be a character who manages to keep up with an otherwise-normal character using ONLY skills, feats, and class-features. As-is, even monks need bracers or armor, amulets of deflection, etc, in order to keep up with the other classes statistically.
Well, what if I wanted to play a character who didn't have even that much? What if, for whatever reason, all they had was sheer physical skill and insane amounts of effort and practice in order to keep up? As a DM, how would you replicate that?
And yes, this includes the martial arts taught in armies such as Sambo or Krav Maga
And brawlers could also become superhuman without formal training in martial arts, just their own βmartial artsβ that they came up with via their own combat experience
Techniques such as being able to control your own bodily functions are possible
Good enough swordsmen can also slice apart cars, though the swords may break if theyβre not good enough, either
We have girl names picked & will never get to use them but our boys have awesome names.
We are at a standstill so far Holden & Felix are the winners but he doesnβt feel like a Felix to me and Holden means from the hollow or something uninteresting like that So whatβs your thoughts
So now that MVA is getting adapted, I decided to check out the Shigaraki vs Re Destro fight, itβs decent so far. But the interesting thing is the comments having complaints of Shigaraki seemingly having super speed and toughness despite it not being his quirk, and how itβs bad writing, ignoring how itβs a trope that has existed in Shonen for the longest time and it applies to characters other than Shigaraki long before MVA.
It seems characters with years of experience/training can keep up with the lower level quirk users at least. A few examples:
Nighteye throwing 5kg seals like darts and his protΓ©gΓ© Mirio one shotting most of 1A
Endeavor withstanding super strength from the likes of Hood and Shigaraki(the latter of which reminded Endeavor of All Might though he isnβt as strong). The most extreme case of this in the series.
Stain keeping up with Iida, Deku and Todoroki(The first two are super fast and the latter can shoot ice and fire in the blink of an eye)
Ochako tanking explosions from Bakugo
Jeanist surviving AFOβs air cannon
Bakugo seems to have durability as a secondary power to withstand his explosions, but I doubt he inherited it from his parents, so this trope should still apply I think. He has also withstood restrained blows from OFA wielders which would kill any ordinary person
Aizawa beating up multiple opponents at once, many of whom had quirks he couldnβt disable.
Tomura moved incredibly fast in the USJ and he has enough durability to walk off Bakugoβs point blank explosion and Machia whacking him around.
I donβt have a big problem with this to be honest, but there was a missed opportunity for worldbuilding. Simply put this trope could be an in-universe consequence of having a quirk which would explain why Deku wasnβt encouraged to be a hero. Maybe he doesnβt have the ability to train himself to the levels of the characters above. It doesnβt contradict Knucledusterβs existence as he is obviously superhuman and he did possess a quirk and work as a pro hero.
It maintains the necessity of a quirk to become a hero in this setting and might alleviate some of the βDeku should have been quirklessβ arguments.
In most fictional worlds this type of Magic-User is very rare and exclusive to the special underdog character who doesn't need powers to be a Hero. I'm talking to you, Batman. But I never like that about most fictional worlds.
But in my world, I want Super Soldiers, Peak Humans, and Chi/Ki users to be more common. I'm tired of the "you need be rich like Batman and have a group of superhuman children sidekick too" trope. To get the Charles Altas powers.
I wanted these types of Magic Users to be more common in the world. Like Mutants and Metahumans. Or have an underground world where they can learn like Mages/Wizards. I hate that this type of Magic-User is rare in most fictional worlds for the most part. I know people say the training to be Peak Human or Ki User is hard. But also learning Magic is hard. But that doesn't stop most fictional worlds from having whole Schools for Magic/Mana gifted students. And whole freaking magical societies lol. Meanwhile, Charles Alta's power is limited to a rich guy like Iron Man or Batman or his sidekick children or special CIA agents like Hawkeye in most settings.
Note im using Peak Human, Ki User, and Super Soldier very interchangeable here. Ki in my world is not what you think it is. It's not like DBZ there are no power-ups or spamming blasts or flying. Ki in my world is like Ki-in real life. Peak Human is the best a human can be. And Super Soldier is just a human on steroids. In my world, all 3 terms are the same thing. Peak Human is more physical and mind-based. Ki is also more mind-based too but also more exclusive to certain martial arts in my world that utilize Ki more better than others. And the Super Soldier just enhanced what's in the human body. Physically and Mentally.
The difference is very small between all three. A Peak Human is still limited in the realm of what a normal human can do. A Super Soldier can surpass that limit of normal humans since they are the next evolution of normal humans. They can lift cars and helicopters. They still struggle hard with that though. Their Super Soldier mind can learn things more faster like Taskmaster. Probably master a whole Martial Art in half a month. While it would take a Peak Human or Ki User years. And Ki Users are more in tune with the universe.
The most skilled Ki Users can actually sense energy and heal themselves with Ki. They can master pressure point Martial Arts that disrupt the Chi flow in a Human or Animal or Alien body. At best the most skilled K

In this system people are able to develop βskillsβ, techniques that can bend realityβ to its users will. The catch is the only way to learn or develop a skill is through hard work and diligence.
What is a skill? A skill is anything that has been trained or developed long enough to bend or even break the laws of reality. It can be as simple as a sword strike that can cut through steel or as complex as the schematics for a steampunk city that travels the world on spider legs. Skills are split into three broad categories.
Physical: Skills acquired by training your body or mind. Ex. Super jump, slowed perception of time, unbreakable skin
Construction: Skills related to building objects, buildings, food, etc. Ex. Building a house thatβs bigger on the inside, brewing a love potion, turning lead into gold.
Spiritual: Skills that manipulate the fundamental laws of reality. Ex. Conjuring fire out of nothing, walking on air, summoning ghosts.
Occasionally , skills can be more than one of these categories or might none of them. But these categories work to identify a majority of skills.
How do I get a skill? There are two ways to get a Skill. You can Develop one or you can Learn one.
Developing: Developing a Skill is a conscious effort. You have to be immensely talented or immensely lucky to develop one without trying. First, you must have an idea of the skill you want to develop. Do you want to walk on air? Do you want to swim like a shark? Do you want to punch down trees? Picture it in your head and begin doing something the you feel will best help you to achieve that goal.
3 things determine how long the skill takes to develop or if it will develop at all.
Effort: How much time did you put into training?
Belief: do you think you can actually develop it?
Plausibility: How much of a stretch would it be for a human to actually do this?
Strength in one category can overcome weakness in the others. It takes years for even the most talented people to gain a skill this way.
Alternatively, you can Learn one. This is as simple as having someone who posses the Skill walk you through the steps they took to gain it. It still takes months but itβs much faster and easier. So why would anyone develop a skill?
A developed skill is much more powerful than a learned one. Teaching someone a skill cuts itβs effectiveness in half until the skill stops at 1/8 of its original power. Additionally, a learned skil

Could you help me to brainstorm this?
What are some possible Charles Atlas powers people could have. For those who don't know what that is...
>In the land of fiction, training can literally give you superhuman powers! Intense exercise can let you split boulders, jump three stories straight up, "see" while wearing a blindfold, and make your skin bulletproof... somehow.
>A lot of characters have out-and-out superhuman abilities, and the explanation for such powers is just "They trained really hard for several years, or trained under bizarre and unusual circumstances. Train, and you, too, can bash mountains open with your head." Western comic book superheroes, often stated to "lack superpowers", nevertheless are clearly able to hold their own and defeat villains with superhuman strength many times their own simply by knowing how to perform martial arts. "Non-superpowered" characters such as Batman could beat almost anyone in a fight, dodge bullets and withstand ridiculous amounts of damage because they spent a few years living and training atop a mountain.
How would Charles Atlas Powers affect society?
What does "Peak Human" actually mean in terms of powers/perks? What happens if you go to a Jump where humans are just generally more capable than in real life, such as in a superhero or high fantasy setting, or vice versa? What happens if you aren't a human? Would you just get a very tiny increase in stats, or would you be "Peak Kryptonian" or whatever? If so, what if you're a member of a race (fantasy human or otherwise) that naturally has a wide range of power levels, like a dragon or a Saiyan or something?
Newb here, sorry if it's a dumb question.
Due to a lot of weightlifting I have to wear mostly "lifters" cut for my jeans. I wear a sz 38 in the N&F easy guy stretch and I have read a lot of people recommended the Atlas cut for thick thigh guys like me. I initially tried a sz 36 and I couldn't even pull them up to my waist. I checked the size chart and they had me between a 38 and 40. These are the 40's but I'm pretty sure they're too large. My plan is to go to a 38 and get the legs hemmed down to a 32". (These are a 36.5") What do you guys think?
The phrase "chatles atlas" is a trope about when fictional charecters who ate supposed to be peak-human at best commit superhuman physical feats.
Now,I know that everyone important in bnha has a power, but alot of them shoudn't enhance their whole bodies.
For ecample: Stain. His quirk should only affect his tounge and any thing that could be possibly related to his tounge. That does not include his legs. Yet his original stats put his speed at S. This probably didnt mean his running speed so much as it meant "how fast can he dodge, throw punches", but that still put him above Lida, whose quirk is meant to enhance his speed, including his kicking speed.
Another example is bakugo. At best , that asshole's quirk should reach all his arms to handle the recoil and heat.
Remember when he and Midoriya fought All might at the end of season 2? All might need Bakugo hard enough to launch him near the top of a building.
Bakugo took: a knee to the chin strong enough to send him flying high
And
Crashing into a building, hard enough to go through the wall if the dust cloud is an indication.
Yet he immediatly gets right backup to attack. Like it was nothing. That should have broke his jaw
Or at the middle of season 1, when deku and bakugo fought. Bakugo uses his gauntlets, which midoriya doesn't dodge. Midoriya took an fucking fireball, and his costume was in worse shape than him. He could still stand and fight, so it did scratch damage at best.
I had a post here a few weeks ago about a pair that everyone agreed that was too large. So here's the new pair. Imo they fit pretty well. Am I supposed to be able to put my foot on my knee when seated? I tried to put some shoes on earlier and it was kind of a chore. Mind you these are two different styles so the fit is slightly different.
These are the first pair of jeans I ever had hemmed. How does the 32" inseam look?
Old pair:40x35 https://imgur.com/a/q85mt9j
New pair: 38x32 https://imgur.com/a/Y7RzxU0
Lets say you are transported into another world and you're basically you with no powers however if you do enough push ups and sit ups you have the potential to be one of the strongest people of that world.
