A list of puns related to "Breed standard"
Someone who produces more animals than they can care for, matches the parents without doing genetic testing, or intentionally breeds animals who have significant health issues is vilified as a backyard breeder. If they produced offspring with issues that would cause suffering, most people who know and care about animals would castigate them for not euthanizing it immediately to prevent further pain and distress. Allowing an unintended pregnancy to occur would be unthinkable.
β¦ but if you even imply that humans should take even the slightest precautions around ensuring the health and well-being of a human child? Be prepared to be known as a eugenicist, ecofascist, misogynist, Nazi, and so on.
Why do natalists have such a blatant double standard? How can this be justified, especially since most of them take the speciesist view that humans are more important/valuable? Shouldnβt the potential suffering of humans matter even more??
I've thought about breeding my jenny in the future (she's a guardian for my sheep, goats, and bottle calves and is happy enough for now but I know she'd be much happier with another donkey and I'd like to add the 2nd donkey by letting her foal and raise it up so it's spent its whole life with the other animals rather than buying another one that may or may not like sheep and goats) but the only donkey studs around me are minis. Not sure exactly how tall the jacks are but my jenny is 44" at the withers. How tall would a mini jack have to be to even be able to breed her?
Iβm a strong believer in going to a reputable breeder for a puppy for reasons of breeding for temperament, health, family lineage, early socialisation and the breeder being a lifelong resource vs a puppy mill. A rescue is not right for me in my circumstances but I 100% support rescuing for those who can as there are many deserving dogs in rescues.
However, in my specific case, I am really keen on a chihuahua puppy and specifically on a deer-headed chihuahua over an apple-headed chihuahua. The British breed club for chihuahuas clearly states that their breed standards are an apple-shaped domed head as well as a dog on the smaller side. I am keen on a deer-headed chihuahua instead. Itβs a completely personal preference though I personally feel they look better and healthier without the extreme short snout and google eyes. I love chihuahuas. This is just my preference.
But the point is that the best breeders in my country for pure bred chihuahuas are not breeding deer headed chihuahuas if at all possible because these donβt conform to the breed standard. In that case, I am lost at where to turn to get my preferred puppy. Lots of online sellers are selling puppies from one or two deer headed parents but a lot of these donβt seem particularly reputable imo. Many sellers even pretend to be reputable by copying language from real breeders but will then sell to anyone so itβs quite thorny finding a reputable breeder this way.
The other option is getting a mix eg a chihuahua JRT mix for the preferred look, but again a reputable breeder focusing on improving a breed is not going to be producing mixes as far as I am aware. And the mix would not be KC registered.
I imagine this applies to other breeds like GSDs and their hip issues but there seems to be more of a culture of some breeders breeding healthier non-conforming dogs, but is there anything like this for little chis in the UK? Lol.
What are your thoughts, Reddit?
Iβve heard that for many other breeds with different size options, that the breeds are considered to be actually different breeds of dog, whereas the sizing for poodles is simply a result of breeding similar sized dogs with other similar similar sized dogs. Because of this, Iβve heard that the disposition/temperament/breed traits of say, a Standard poodle isnβt different from that of a Moyen, Miniature, or even a Toy size.
Does anyone have any experience with this or any feedback? Iβm interested in the poodle breed (based on the temperaments of Standard poodles Iβve interacted with) but would prefer a smaller size (probably look for a miniature thatβs on the larger side).
We all know the breed standard thatbis written for Mastiffs. Does your Mastiff behave like a typical Mastiff?
I am looking for a non/low-shedding, medium energy, people and dog friendly hiking dog. Do you think this breed is good for me?οΏΌ It seems like the best fit. I plan to keep them clipped close to minimize coat maintenance.
What's the general consensus on Dalmatians who don't conform to breed standards? It seems the only colors allowed are black and liver with brown eyes (which, of course, blue eyes can mean deafness, so I absolutely agree with that aspect). However, there are other colors acknowledged. Lemon, brindle, black tri, liver tri, I've even seen sable. And of course, long coat dalmatians. What are people's general thoughts on these? Breed standards are important to maintain health, but it really doesn't allow for genetic diversity, and ignores purebred dogs with naturally occurring traits that are perfectly fine (such as huskies coming in various colors and sizes, but the standard is very specific).
I'd also like to add, I'm not asking about breeders. This post isn't discussing people who specifically breed for color or coat type. It's just about the dogs with these genetic traits that pop up. Plenty of people end up with non standard colors without breeding for them. Plenty of people do breed these off standard dogs not for color, but because they are healthy and have good structure. So please don't comment about breeders, I'm just curious about how people feel about these dogs. I love dals, but I'm confined to Google, and would love some insight from others.
https://countrynightzranch.com/ This website has a list and examples of different colors and coats. They are a breeder, so if you want to comment on this one specifically, that's totally cool. Thanks for reading my ramblings.
Hi! If this post isn't okay, I'm super sorry and I'll remove it!
I'm doing a ton of research into dog aggression lately and a comment that keeps coming up is that for certain breeds (particularly pit bulls), dog aggression is considered the breed standard. I don't quite understand that means, because when I look it up I find stuff like this: 'Because most APBTs exhibit some level of dog aggression and because of its powerful physique, the APBT requires an owner who will carefully socialize and obedience train the dog.' (link) I did send an email to adbadog.com asking if they were breeding for dog aggression when they mentioned 'gameness,' but their response was that gameness was willingness to do work, not dog aggression. But that was it, and I didn't want to keep bothering them.
Does that mean that for an APBT, breeders are hoping to breed for dog aggression, or it's something that just happens so they work around it?
What unique physical feature is standard to the Catalburun and only two other dog breeds?

I am just curious if you have a non standard breed and how you decided on that breed over a fab 4 breed? Maybe it was totally by chance they worked out for you! I know many might have rescued too! Iβd love to hear your stories about you guys and your dogs!
