Peptobismol (Bismuth Subsalicylate) To Interesting Copmounds

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bismuth_subsalicylate

My ideas are possible oxidations/aminations to some exotic type "phenylbarbiturates". If there is 1-2 oxidations done it should give something that looks very close to a barbiturate but with a phenol ring. Also/or if 1-2 NH groups were added (one possibility being the OH to NH) maybe this would work.. Also maybe you could just reduce off that phenol and make normal barbiturates. Anyone with experience here please leave some advice. Thanks.

ELI5: Bismuth subsalicylate (Pepto-Bismol) vs. Dimenhydrate (Gravol)

Pharmacy Times doesn't distinguish them. familydoctor.org (sponsored by American Academy of Family Physicians) states:

>- Bismuth subsalicylate (2 brand names: Kaopectate, Pepto-Bismol). It may help treat some types of nausea and vomiting, such as from gastroenteritis (stomach flu). It’s also used for upset stomach and as an antidiarrheal (medicine to treat diarrhea).

  • Antihistamines. Certain types may help prevent nausea and vomiting caused by motion sickness. These include dimenhydrinate (brand name: Dramamine) and meclizine hydrochloride (brand name: Dramamine Less Drowsy).
  1. The quote overhead includes more symptoms for Bismuth subsalicylate (which I've colored in grey) than Antihistamines. So does Bismuth subsalicylate help with more symptoms than Antihistamines?

  2. Does Bismuth subsalicylate cover broader types of nausea and vomiting? For antihistamines, the quote overhead appears to qualify "nausea and vomiting" to "nausea and vomiting caused by motion sickness".

  3. How else do these two differ?

Bismuth subsalicylate vs. Calcium carbonate?

So my daughter has the stomach bug, I took her to the pediatrician today and was told to give her children's chewable pepto.

Well long story short I forgot to stop at the drug store. So I went to the dollar store near my house and could only find chewable pepto for adults.

So I called the pharmacy and asked if there is any difference between the adult and children's pepto besides dosage. She said no, and that I could just give her half the adult dosage, so one chewable.

Well I didn't doubt her so I went ahead and gave my daughter (110 lbs) one of the adult chewables. Problem is, I went searching online for a dosage chart by weight, and discovered that adult vs. Children's pepto are definitely two different ingredients.

Is it safe to give the bismuth subsalicylate and what is the correct dosage for 110 lbs?

Considering a Religious Exemption from the COVID-19 vaccine?

If you are considering requesting a β€œreligious” exemption to the COVID-19 vaccination there are a number of things you should know about and consider beforehand.

NORMAL VACCINE DEVELOPMENT TIMELINE

  1. Development timeline – the normal vaccine undergoes multiple stages of development

a. Phase 1 – Clinical trials to assess safety, dosing and immune response – can be anything from 2 months (required minimum) to a few years b. Phase 2 – Clinical trials to assess safety and immune response – can be anything from 3 months (required minimum) to a few years c. Phase 3 – Clinical trials to assess safety and efficacy – can be anything from 6 months (required minimum) to a few years d. Regulatory Approval Process – US FDA may (when there is good scientific reason to believe a vaccine is safe & likely to prevent disease) authorize use through an Emergency Use Authorization (EAU) even if definitive proof of the efficacy of the vaccine is not yet know…especially in diseases with high mortality rates. e. Scaling up Vaccine manufacturing – the FDA inspects manufacturing facilities as part of the late phase of the regulatory process f. Post-licensure vaccine safety monitoring – required and tracked to monitor development of rare side effects only detectable after large groups of people have been vaccinated…safety concerns at this stage can result in withdrawal from use but is very rarely required.

COVID-19 VACCINE DEVELOPMENT TIMELINE

  1. Research on Coronavirus vaccines have been underway for decades so the work to develop a vaccine for COVID-19 didn’t begin from the same place as a viral disease we’d never experienced before
  2. The mRNA vaccine development process was explored during the SARS and MERS viral outbreaks and so wasn’t actually a β€œnew” technology and HAS been used to develop medications for humans
  3. The typical timeline for a vaccine development (see paragraph above) is approximately 7 years but that is when each phase in the process uses the full period and they only occur consecutively instead of concurrently like the COVID-19 vaccine
  4. All FDA required testing was conducted on the COVID-19 vaccine – 74,000 people received one or two of the vaccines and the people tested covered the full range of ages, genders, ethnicities and races. There were no reports of serious side effects.
  5. The FDA and two Independent Advisory Committees reviewed the vaccine data and clinical trial resul

Sharing the protocol that finally cleared my H2S SIBO

Hey all! I wanted to post about a treatment that actually worked great for me and someone else I've spoken to with H2S SIBO. It's been a couple months and I haven't had any H2S symptoms or issues, so I wanted to share in case it could help someone else.

Quick background -- I've been working on getting rid of H2S SIBO for almost 2 years, which involved many antimicrobial herb treatments, lots of probiotics, different diets, and 3 functional clinicians. The probiotics seemed to help, but never got me all the way. Under supervision of my doctor, I recently tried a protocol with bismuth subsalicylate, AKA the active ingredient in Pepto Bismol. It is so insanely cheap and simple it's kind of ridiculous, and makes me SMH at how much money I spent on other treatments lol.

I took three tablets a day, one with or right before each meal, for 2 weeks. It's been a couple of months, and I have had zero sulfur issues since, even with lots of high-sulfur foods. It's awesome. I'm using a prokinetic and spacing meals to try to prevent a relapse, but at least I know if that does ever come back, I can do this treatment again.

You can take Pepto Bismol tablets or chewables, but a lot of people seem to prefer Target's "Up and Up, 5 symptom digestive relief" which is basically the same as Pepto Bismol, but maybe slightly cleaner ingredients? I took the Up and Up brand personally.

Side note: Other things I was doing at the same time: Dr. Ruscio's 3-probiotic strain protocol for about a year. I had also been taking Biocidin (biofilm disruptor) for about 2-3 months prior to the bismuth. I'm not sure if this was necessary for the bismuth to work as well as it did or not. I saw some improvement but did not see great results with anything until I started the bismuth.

For anyone freaking out about colon cancer, here are some foods that can cause the dreaded black specks in bowel movements

One of the typically recognized symptoms of colon cancer is "black specks in stool" because that's usually an indication of a bleed somewhere in the digestive tract, which isn't a good thing whether it's caused by cancer or something else.

BUT there are lots of foods that can come out the other end of you that mimic this symptom. Some stuff will not digest all nice and neat and will exit your body having been exposed to digestion, but not necessarily getting fully digested, if that makes sense.

I learned from a gastroenterologist that the process of digestion is what gives stool its color because normally it's more yellow due to bile, I think (sorry TMI), so it makes sense that undigested food exposed to the same process will darken in color too.

These foods include the following:

  • Fruits with itty bitty seeds (bananas, strawberries, raspberries, figs)

  • Fruits with dark skins (blueberries, blackberries, cherries, plums)

  • Flaky herbs (like parsley)

  • Nuts with skins still on them (peanuts, almonds, pecans). Note: Skins on nuts are considered an insoluble fiber, which means they are not digestible, which is why they might show up in a bowel movement. Nuts themselves are a soluble fiber. I just learned this today.

  • Beans with skins (kidney beans, black beans, red beans - I think these all contain insoluble fiber too)

Also, since black stools are another commonly reported symptom of colon cancer, here are some things you might consume that can bring on dark bowel movements too:

  • Pepto-Bismal, Maalox or Kaopectate (the active ingredient in these is bismuth subsalicylate, which can cause darkening of stools)

  • Too much dietary fiber (it's hard to even get enough fiber, let alone too much, so this one isn't as common)

  • Iron supplements or foods high in iron (which include many of the food items on either of these lists)

  • Food dyes/coloring (especially black, green or blue)

  • Red foods (tomatoes, red meat, red wine)

  • Black licorice or anything with activated charcoal in it

  • Naturally dark-colored foods (spinach, broccoli, beets,)

A couple other things to keep in mind: just about every source I saw said that things you've eaten are the cause of a vast majority of instances of black specks in stool and/or discolored stool - like at least 90%. So if you just pooped and it looked like it was full of pepper, consider what yo

I see so much conflicting info about maltodextrin but the amount in a medicine is likely very small right? I wanna go to sleep NOT on the toilet tonight and I'm hoping this will be my saving grace

TLDR; is maltodextrin low fodmap, is this medicine a good idea

I’m trying to figure out exactly why I didn’t feel anything after taking 2.9gr of GTs and I’m getting mixed messages on other subreddits. I’ll give you a timeline with everything I did over the course of a few days.

Wednesday

Friday

  • 15:00 - Started drinking some wine
  • 15:20 - Took 10mg of 2C-B (for the first time) and had a great time, ended up drinking 1/2 bottle of wine
  • 19:00 - By this time the 2C-B wore off and I started to fell a bit anxious
  • 19:30 - Took 2mg of Ethyl loflazepate to help with anxiety

Saturday

  • 08:00 - Woke up hungover and with stomach burn, drank some electrolytes, threw up everything
  • 09:00 - Sucked on a tab of Dihydroxyaluminum Sodium Carbonate (Kompensan) to neutralize stomach acid
  • 13:30 - Had light lunch
  • 15:10 - Took 2.9gr of GTs using lemon tek

All I felt was relaxation but barely noticeable. Why didn’t I feel anything?

  • 2C-B cross tolerance?
  • Ethyl loflazepate from the day before?
  • Xanax from Wednesday?
  • Dihydroxyaluminum Sodium Carbonate tab that reduced the acid in my stomach?

Thanks I’m advance.

Mike's Book Reviews Q&A with Jim Transcript

Back to doing most of a regular interview instead of posting snippets from three different q&as that seem relevant.

What do you prefer Star Wars or Star Trek? For me it's funny because you answered this in one of your books.

For me it's Star Wars especially since The Mandalorian came out. Trek, I don't mind Trek but it's not like my spiritual home, I need swords and space wizards.

I'm right there with you and Mandalorian really almost feel like... people who grew up with the original trilogy it almost feels like coming home home a little bit don't it.

Oh I know, I know, I'm loving the heck out of it.

If you had to pick three favourite Dresden books which would they be?

Probably Changes, Peace Talks and Battle Ground, I mean I kind of see Peace Talks and Battle Ground as the same book because originally they were but it was just too big and clunky.

What is your favourite food and drink combo? And if it's not pizza and coke I'm gonna feel cheated.

Well you're gonna feel cheated then because it's burgers and fries.

Okay, I'm just saying when I read Dresden Files books every five minutes when Harry's getting a coke I'm like "good lord I can feel my teeth cracking".

Yeah.

Which character point of view would change our view on Dresden's world the most if we got a chapter or a novella from that point of view?

Ooooooh, the Merlin probably.

Oh nice.

Yeah the Merlin... he just has bottles of Pepto that Dresden causes him to drink, but he's the one who knows the whole story and exactly how dangerous Dresden is right now, so.

If you could collaborate with one author in any genre, living or dead, who would it be?

Robert B Parker.

What does Robert B Parker write?

He is the author of the Spenser private eye series, so all of the Spenser movies, all the tv shows, they all come from his books. He's kind of my hero as a writer, he didn't even start until he was in his 40s and then he just started writing and turning out these books on a regular basis, he actually died at the keyboard like a man, that I how I want to go out you know, doing something cool like that. But yeah he was my favourite writer and he passed five or six years ago.

So besides Robert B Parker if you had a chance to write any other author's universe, play in that sandbox, which one would it be and why?

*his answer is still Honor Harrington cat scout and Monster Hunter International's dena

Day 9 of H Pylori Treatmentβ€”Somehow feeling worse

Hi! 25 year old female.

So I was diagnosed with H Pylori. I’ve been experiencing nausea and vomiting since February 2021. Finally got the confirmation that I tested positive for H Pylori last month. I started treatment (Tetracycline, Metronidazole, Omeprazole, & Bismuth subsalicylate) July 1st. I was doing fine the first 3 days, but by July 4th, I somehow felt worse. I vomit almost after every meal, nausea all day. It’s horrible.

I tried calling my doctor and she just increased the dose for Omeprazole. It’s been 6 days of me throwing up after every meal and I don’t know what to do.

Has this happened to anyone? Is this normal? Any recommendations to help with the nausea and vomiting.

I appreciate any & all help.

Thanks & take care. ❣️

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
