Most glamor spells fixate on feminine beauty, which is all fine and good, but a friend of mine recently asked me to make him a spell for a more traditionally masculine form of attractiveness. I can see this being useful especially for transmasc individuals, but also any guy who wants to look and feel a little special, or catch somebody's eye.
- Bay leaf -- wealth, prosperity, strength, psychic influence
- Clove -- abundance, wealth, love, sex
- Nutmeg -- persuasion, wealth, love and attraction
- Ginger -- attraction, confidence, sexuality
- Rum -- prosperity, love, strength
Everything on this list has masculine associations.
For the spell: On a Friday, the day of Venus, pour the rum in a jar and add the spices. Put it somewhere that gets a decent amount of sun. Carve a red candle with a sigil of your intent, anoint it with your favorite cologne, and burn it each day, infusing the rum as you do. Write a petition to the gods (I recommended Adonis or Eros, since he works with the Greek gods, but any male god of love and sexuality would do) detailing how you wish to be perceived. On the second following Friday, burn the petition in what's left of the candle, strain the spices and store the rum in an air-tight container.
Bonus: Mix a small amount of the infused rum with the ashes of the petition, pink salt, and flour to make a dough. Form into a disk. Carve one side of the coin with the sign for Venus, the other with Mars, and allow to harden. If you don't want to use the rum as an aftershave, you can turn the coin into a glamour talisman, but I actually recommend setting it aside as a spell component for special occasions when you think you need an extra oomph; either first dates, job interviews, or days when you want to look especially handsome.
Super disappointed with Bay Rum’s deodorant. It smells like Crest or Colgate toothpaste, so weird. Sticking with Pine Tar for now.

My mother-in-law has this decanter that has Bay Rum etched on it. She asked if it was a brand or style or whatever. I figured it was some ole timey reference to it being Caribbean Rum or something. My limited Google skills came up with aftershave or cologne. So now I’m really confused. I find it highly unlikely that this particular decanter is for aftershave. Can anyone provide me with any insight into what this Bay Rum is referring to?

I am (was?) in love with the Bay Rum scent. I recently ordered another 5-pack before my current pack runs out and noticed the box looked different. I thought maybe I had gotten a knock-off brand. After looking it up I found they had just changed their packaging. After opening one of the new bars I also noticed it does NOT smell like the ones I already have. I thought maybe I was just building a tolerance to the smell but I am 100% sure it is not the same scent. It still smells good (close enough to be labeled the same), but it isn't the "I don't even want to wash this off my body" smell the previous bars had.
Has anyone else noticed this? Am I going crazy?

I wanted to make this post as a warning after I logged onto the squatch site and noticed they were heavily promoting a bundle containing the Bay Rum candle. Speaking from my own personal experience as a squatch lover trying to try it all, this candle is dangerous, and it appears they are trying to get rid of them by giving it out as “free”. Do a search of the subreddit and you’ll find that the candles are prone to set the candle glass on fire - yes the candle catches itself on fire, and not just on the wick. This happened to me and i don’t want anyone else to succumb to advertising thinking they can get a dangerous candle for free. Im sure some people have had good experiences, but note the only posts here for “candle” are about them catching fire. Buy at your own risk!!

I have never tried a Bay Rum before and since i love this company i thought I would try this one first.
Upon application there is a bit of a cheap, plasticky smell (maybe because the bottle is plastic) but that quickly and thankfully wears off. The first notable note Is lime. It isn’t a bitter lime, but actually kind of sweet and candy like. As it dies down there is some menthol smell which quickly turns into a more pure cloves smell, bay leaf, and something that reminds me of an unlit cigar. Reading what others say about bay rum, I’m guessing this is a bit light on the cloves since i do find it nicely balanced. Since this is a straight up aftershave/after shower cologne don’t expect great longevity. All in all it reminds me of watered down and sweetened Worcestershire sauce. I mean the ingredients are almost the same so it oddly makes sense. But it’s nice, not astringent or fishy like the real sauce.
Despite the off putting opening notes, this is a nice masculine scent. It isn’t overwhelming and I think it’s good for those who like spicy scents that are quiet. It’s subtle and light, snd not offensive at all. I’m sure there are better bay rums, but for the cheap price and balanced smell this will be alright for now. Despite being associated with the tropics, i do not find this very suitable for hot weather. It literatly smells like some Christmas time potpourri.
Hello, I am looking for a bay rum body splash/fragrance. I found the Ogallala Bay rum, but I can’t decide between the aftershave and cologne. The aftershave is half the price of the cologne. However the aftershave is scented with bay rum fragrance oil, while the cologne uses essential oils. I am looking for one with good longevity, but I don’t want it to be too intense. I would also prefer the one with more citrus. Please share your advice, thanks.

I believe its an oil used in the fragrance blend because Wills' Le Grand Chypre is also in the excelsior base and performs as great as it smells.

Surprisingly, there are very few Bay Rum colognes out there. Why is that? I'd imagine people would line up to wear an awesome, masculine scent that no one else is wearing.
Anyway, I've done some research and haven't found too many alternatives besides Bay Rum by Calavera, and maybe Atomic Age Bay Rum by PAA. This seems to be a recurrent theme, too: people who are still making these colognes are usually active in the wet shaving community.
Anyway, does the gentry have any other recommendations for Bay Rum colognes?
