Thanks!!!
Anyone here have this? I had a checkup today with cardiologist and my ekg was abnormal. They did a bubble study and it came back that I have a shunt and I have to get a cardiac MRI to see if itβs Atrial Septal Defect and if itβs big enough Iβll need surgery if not they just leave it. Cardiologists doesnβt think itβs POTS. Heβs not sure why my BP drops. If you have had this what were your symptoms? Iβve been having a ton of issues (why I joined this group) and Iβm hoping maybe this could be my answer.
38f Caucasian heavier than I'd like to admit. Had a stroke 2 months ago and following investigations showed ASD. Hadn't been pick up before this, even through 3 labours. I have palpitations which are worse at night. However I get the impression that the doctor doesn't want to close it. I want it closed. Ideas and thoughts?
Iβm in nursing school and we have to practice listening to the heart beat and all of that. She has almost constant pauses. Sometimes every 3 beats, sometimes every 8. But usually not longer than that. Itβs consistent that I know I will hear it every single time I listen. I have made her an appt, but it isnβt until later this week. Could the hole in her heart still be there? Was something missed? I know back then they mentioned her heart did this, but I assumed (my fault) that it was caused by the hole in her heart. Any insight? Also my post history has a single lead ecg done on my Apple Watch on her. I know itβs not super accurate, but it does show the pauses.
Hello fellow POTSies, I have a question for you all. I have an Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) as well as POTS, and my defect was addressed using a septal occluder. I could have sworn years ago that my doctor said there was a connection between POTS and ASD, but I am finding no connection between the two online. Does anyone else have both of these?
Hyperhidrosis is a condition affecting 1 percent of the population meaning that I sweat A LOT for no apparent reason. One in a 1000 people are born with an atrial septal defect, mine being that I was born with a hole in a wall in my heart. This probability alone is 1 in 100,000. To top it off, Iβm also in Hitlerβs family tree.
I understand why it nwould cause fixed splitting, but I don't know why it causes the other things.
During systole, the atria arent contracting so i would imagine there's a lack of force that would generate the turbulent flow.
Is there a resource that gives the mechanisms of what causes these murmurs/sounds? UFAPS seems to be lacking in this area. Lily's is a lot more thorough but still doesnt seem to cover everything.
This was discovered at birth and she has been monitored by a cardiologist a couple times since birth. This issue has never caused any problems other than a heart murmur. Iβve Done a lot of research and I see that typically they close it at a young age to prevent cardiac problems as an adult. This has never been mentioned to me and Iβm wondering if it is something I should bring up or just let it go? How important is having this procedure?
I have a 30mm ASD with left to right shunting that will have to be repaired via open-heart surgery. I have severe RV dilation, mild RA dilation, mild tricuspid valve regurgitation, and slightly elevated pulmonary pressure. My surgery is scheduled for 10 days from now in Boston Children's Hospital.
I've talked to the doctors and have a good idea of the procedure and what to expect. But I was just wondering if there is anything I should be on the lookout for? Any advice that you would give to an open heart surgery patient for before and after the surgery? What are some good questions I should ask the doctors? Previous ASD patients: what was your experience like?
Edit: 19M
As a graduate student (physiology) with hopes of acceptance into medical school this year, I do not have much knowledge on the issue. Does an ASD have to be over a certain size for left to right shunting to occur? What are the common symptoms that coincide with the aforementioned shunting?
Hi! I recently got diagnosed with ASD, I am Male, 24. I was wondering if anyone experienced this, how do you manage yourself? My doctor said that it is possible that I can go for a cardiac catheterization but due to finanicial difficulties I can't undergo at it ASAP, at the moment I'm just taking some meds as prescribed. Other CHD tips/advices are also very much accepted. Thank you!
I am not asking for medical advice, as I have already had TEE and echo after having a 24 hour holter monitor test that determined I had about 3,000 PVCS per 24 hour period . Can an atrial septal defect be the cause of PVCs? 24 y/o male
It is a hole between the chambers of her heart.
Would she be able to do the classics, or say 5-MeO-MiPT or 4-HO-MET?
What about Lysergamides?
I went to the doctor today because I may have ASD. I'm a 31 year old female. My mother just found out she has a hole in her heart and it's genetic.
I'm going to have to go through all sorts of cardiac tests, and until we find out what causes my symptoms (palpitations, frequent dizziness, near fainting, especially during exercise) the doctor said I can't exercise. I'm devastated.
Being physically active is important to me and is the only thing that helps, as I have severe depression and anxiety.
Does anyone else have this as well?
