Alina Starkov - Alina is a Slavic name meaning "light". This is pretty self-explanatory.
Starkov is a Russian last name, though it seems to be of unknown origin. I think it's worth pointing out that it does contain the word "star".
Malyen Oretsev - Malyen is not actually a real name. Though, "Mal" does mean "small" in Russian. I don't know if that's of any significance.
I did find something more interesting, however. In a Goodreads Q&A session from 2014, Leigh Bardugo said that "Malyen" is the Ravkan version of "Malcolm." Malcolm is a Scottish name meaning "devotee of Saint Columba." Well, who is Saint Columba? Saint Columba was an Irish abbot and missionary evangelist that spread Christianity to Scotland. He was revered as a warrior saint and for his victories in battle. We're all aware of Mal's iconic line (and his general nature, honestly) that might befit such a name.
Aleksander Morozova - Aleksander is a name of Greek origin. It means "defender of men." It's pretty befitting to him as he was the self-proclaimed defender of Grisha, and gave them a safe haven from the discrimination of the world. Morozova is derived from the word "frost."
Nikolai Lantsov - Nikolai is an East Slavic name meaning "people's champion/victor of the people." I want to point out how this contrasts with his brother's name, Vasily, which simply means "royal, kingly." Vasily is a prince of royal blood, the first son, who was born to rule. His parentage has never been questioned, he was always to be king. In contrast, Nikolai was the second son, the rumored bastard, who had to truly fight his way through the world and to the throne. He was the victor of the people - they did love their too-clever fox of a king.
Zoya Nazyalensky - Zoya is a Russian and Ukrainian name, meaning "life."
Baghra - Also made up, but it sounds somewhat similar to Baba Yaga, a figure in Slavic folklore. Baba Yaga is an old woman who lives in a hut. She is sometimes portrayed as a villain, sometimes as a maternal figure, sometimes ambiguous. She is very enigmatic, and is different depending on which story you hear about her.
Genya Safin - Genya is a diminuitive of the name Eugenia, a Greek name meaning "well-born." Genya is an exceptionally talented Tailor, with her Grisha powers that she was born with.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
