A list of puns related to "17th Lancers"
To preface the expanded question here: There was an old video (that I can't seem to find again, likely due to keyword blind spots) that showed a Victorian (or possibly earlier) lancer reenactor doing a drill with a double-ended lance where they would impale fleeing unarmored infantry at full speed, motion so as to efficiently remove the tip from the opponent, and spin the lance to put the other tip into the next opponent as quickly as possible, repeating the pattern in a windmilling manner with some variations depending on which side presented the next target.
The main thing I'm wondering is if there are any actual accounts of something like that being practiced on the battlefield.
Did lancers use their lances that way to easily reach dispersed fleeing troops as quickly as possible, or would they have always switched to a sword less prone to breaking or getting too embedded in passing targets?
If I was a lancer, an enemy formation of muskets or other lightly armored infantry broke, and my group was sent in for "cleanup time" then what would I actually be doing and what sort of orders would I be following or looking for?
How many retreating soldiers would I be expected to kill or wound on an average battlefield?
Would there be an official record of my performance in that duty, and if so then would impact my career or standing?
And thusly, the final Precursors ensured their survival.
Having seen firsthand the folly of the ways imparted by the teachings of The Old Universe and The Ancient Ones, and the truth about the new, malevolent universe in which they now resided, The Cult of the Defiled one abandoned their brethren - the Atrekna as a whole were not spared for the learnings of a few, but the few were found blameless for the actions of the many, as was The Mad Lemur's way.
The Cult of the Defiled one never truly integrated into the Confederacy, and you will never find them in the Senate, nor on the less-adventurous maps that are available to the casual tourist, for that matter... But their planets exist for those that dare to visit, and their wisdom is shared freely with those who do.
Making "The Pilgrimage of Threes" as it is called amongst the non-Lemur members of The Confederacy is strongly encouraged for freshly appointed diplomats of new member species - for learning of The Mad Lemurs, from their most critical sources, is the most powerful grounding to be found.
The Lanaktalan will tell you of the Lemurs' adroit violence running parallel to their compassion and mercy. The Mantid will tell you of nothing but their fierce thirst for freedom for all even as they themselves are dying. And the Atrekna will tell you of their endless rage against the universe itself, even while simultaneously serving its whims.
...
The Mad Lumurs cannot truly be stopped, cannot truly be reasoned out of their ways, and cannot be fully understood, but one truth will be ultimately clear, no matter who within The Pilgrimage of Threes that you consult with - You do not want to, as a point of fact, fuck around and find out.

P'Kank heard the striker roar as it dropped out of the metal laden clouds, heard his men climbing aboard the striker behind him.
"All clear, sir, that's everyone," his ad-hoc XO, Major General Yvth.Thwark called out over the suit commo, her voice filled with hissing and pops and clicks from the jamming put out by the Atrekna.
P'Kank raised the flare gun and

The 16th to 17th century saw some extremely destructive, extremely destabilizing wars in Europe such as the French wars of religions (which killed anywhere from 10% to 22% of French population) or the 30 years war (which killed anywhere from 35% to 45% of the HRE population. Side note: did the war really kill 18 million Germans ? Peter H. Wilson and C. V. Wedgewood said no but there seemed to be a belief in Germany that the casualty was much higher) We heard tales of massive depopulations, massacres, mass pillages and looting, disease and plagues ravaging whole area, and it was so bad to the point that many Germans still thought of it as a calamity as bad, if not worse, than WW2.
Yet you did not hear the same thing about wars in the 18th to 19th century. War in these eras were massive, especially in the Napoleonic areas when armies in the hundred of thousands took to the fields. The logical conclusion is that with a much larger war, the suffering for the people will be greater (especially when there was little to no advancement on fronts like agriculture or medicine to prevent widespread famine and disease outbreak as seen in the 30 years war) and with better literacy you will have more people writing about their experience, and therefore more material to work with. But you don't hear much about the destruction, the plague, the refugee: you hear more about the genius of Napoleon, the daring charge of Murat, the indomitable Polish lancers from hell, the British ruling the sea.
So what was life like for your average German peasant whose lands became a warzone for different armies, be it the Imperial French army, the Napoleonic French army, the Prussian, Austria, Russian. Was his experience better than that of his forefathers in the 30 years war ? Or was his experience simply overshadowed by the majesty and fame of the great men of the age like Louis XIV, Prince of Conde, Napoleon, Davout, Frederick the Great ?
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

So we know from the books that the Mad Lances were given magical armour that was able to help them withstand bullets, but did we ever find out the origin of the armour itself i.e. how it was made to be so durable?

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.

Hello! I am once again making a civ idea and after my Tibetans civ recieved some positive support I have decided I am going to continue my civ creating series. This time I will be doing the Oyo Empire!
Note: I am no historian but I did try my best to find out the Oyo Empire's history to make the best design possible.
-------------------------------------Reasoning behind the bonuses using histree------------------------------
The Oyo Empire was a powerful Yoruba (a large ethnic group in Nigeria, Benin and Togo) empire made up of parts of present-day eastern Benin and western Nigeria that existed from 1300 - 1896. It grew to become the largest Yoruba-speaking state and rose through the outstanding organizational and administrative skills of the Yoruba people, wealth gained from trade, and powerful cavalry units.
In the Oyo Empire's capital, Oyo-Ile, lay the Oba's (King's) Palace, the Afin and the Oba's Market, the Oja-Oba. These buildings were placed in the center of the city, which itself was protected by massive Earthen Walls and 17 different gates. This is why the Oyos can upgrade their Fortified Walls to Earthen Walls in the Castle Age and why the Oyos' teammates will have +25% hp on their Stone Gates. Finally, to signify the importance of the Oba's buildings they have access to all builiding hp, Market and Castle upgrades and Castles also shoot 2 more arrows.
The Oyo Empire had a very large and proffesional force due to the its warrior's and officer's fierceness and their powerful cavalry. The Oyo Empire also had access to large areas of farmable land and had a steadily growing population, allowing for an even larger military force. This is why all Oyo units cost -10% food, so you can field a larger force, AND why the Oyos recieve +3 population space for each farm they build.
The Oyo Empire was the only Yoruba Empire to adopt cavalry, which they did very extensively. Because of the geography of the empire with it having large areas in the north suitable for stronger horses the Oyos imported large horses to replace their smaller indigenous ponies. In the jungle filled south of the empire a horse army could not be maintained but raids could still be easily carried out. This is why the Oyos have access to Hussar, Heavy Camel and Paladin but lack Bloodlines. To make up for the lack of Bloodlines the Oyo Unique Technology, Imported Horses, gives the knight line and the unique unit trample damage.
The Empire also had good infantry, armed w
