This is one of the most important things I learned in my extended first aid course. So always pack people in and remember, a blanket or two in the car will always do you or another person good.
Edit: It seems I did some direct translation, title is wrong, people are not undercooled they have a low body temperature or are subcooled as I have now learned.
The potential effect of the static surface tensor for metal alloy surfaces is found to be significantly larger than sizeβrelated effects as demonstrated by oxide shell and stabilizing ligand composition. Considering these finds, the freeβenergy equation related to solidβliquid phase transformation, under the classical nucleation theory, is extended to incorporate the stressβcomponent resulting from the passivating shell.
Undercooling metals relies on frustration of liquidβsolid transition mainly by an increase in activation energy. Passivating oxide layers are a way to isolate the core from heterogenous nucleants (physical barrier) while also raising the activation energy (thermodynamic/kinetic barrier) needed for solidification. The latter is due to composition gradients (speciation) that establishes a sharp chemical potential gradient across the thin (0.7β5β nm) oxide shell, slowing homogeneous nucleation. When this speciation is properly tuned, the oxide layer presents a previously unaccounted for interfacial tension in the overall energy landscape of the relaxing material. We demonstrate that 1)β the integrity of the passivation oxide is critical in stabilizing undercooled particle, a key tenet in developing heatβfree solders, 2)β inductive effects play a critical role in undercooling, and 3)β the magnitude of the influence of the passivating oxide can be larger than size effects in undercooling.

Cool frustration: Engineering composition across a thin surface oxide layer of a metal particle, and stabilizing it with appropriate ligands, leads to a sharp surface stress that frustrates solidification. Chemical potential gradients from compositional variation and ligand inductive effects all contribute to stabilization of a metastable state. An undercooled liquid metal particle is formed, highlighting a new paradigm in engineering energy landscape of a material using thin surface layer, as described by Martin Thuo etβ al. in their Research Article (DOI: 10.1002/anie.202013489).

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
They were cooked in Greece.
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
Don't you know a good pun is its own reword?
It really does, I swear!
Because she wanted to see the task manager.
Heard they've been doing some shady business.
but then I remembered it was ground this morning.
Edit: Thank you guys for the awards, they're much nicer than the cardboard sleeve I've been using and reassures me that my jokes aren't stale
Edit 2: I have already been made aware that Men In Black 3 has told a version of this joke before. If the joke is not new to you, please enjoy any of the single origin puns in the comments
BamBOO!
Theyβre on standbi
A play on words.
I'm doing a thermal analysis of an Al-Cu alloy. The readings indicates that the solidification started almost 10 degrees above the theoretical liquidus temperature. I expected some sort of undercooling since the cooling rate is relatively high. Anybody knows what might be the reason?
My daughter, Chewbecca, not so much.
Advances in hybrid, highβdensity and flexible/wearable electronics demand low temperature metal processing. Undercooled metals have emerged as a solution to low temperature soldering and printing of conductive traces. The process of undercooling, however, relies on frustration of liquidβsolid transition mainly through increase in activation energy by: i) elimination heterogeneous nucleants, or ii) frustrating homogeneous nucleation. We inferred that passivating oxide layers present an active platform that can isolate the core from heterogenous nucleants (physical barrier) while also raising the activation energy (thermodynamic/kinetic barrier) needed for solidification. The latter is due to composition gradients (speciation) that establishes a sharp chemical potential gradient across the thin (0.7β5 nm) oxide shell hence slows homogeneous nucleation. When this speciation is properly tuned, the oxide layer presents a previously unaccounted for interfacial tension in the overall energy landscape of the relaxing material. Herein, the role of surface oxide structure in enhancing and maintaining undercooling is demonstrated. We demonstrate that; i) the integrity of the passivation oxide is critical in stabilizing undercooled particle, a key tenet in developing heatβfree solders, ii) that inductive effects play a critical role in undercooling, and iii) that magnitude of the effect of the passivating oxide can be larger that of size in undercooling.
