A list of puns related to "Tropicana Field"
On the said date in the 2010 season, the Rays got crushed 13-5 in the 2nd game of a 3 game set (they wound up winning the series anyway).
Since then, the Blue Jays have visited Tampa 104 times. They've won a decent amount of games there but have never reached double-digit runs since then, which includes tonight's 4-2 win. Actually, they've not even hit 9 runs at the Trop since then either, although they did hit 8 in Tampa Bay a few times since.
It's true that Tropicana Field has a reputation for being a pitcher's park and it has been one of the toughest stadiums for the Blue Jays to win in, but it's still fascinating to look at.
I am a Yankees fan, but I see a ton of people all around basebal (including Rays fans) trash the Trop for so many different reasons, (ex. the catwalks) but I went to three games there this summer and I honestly thought it was so cool and had a ton of fun. The stadium was so unique and had a totally different vibe than why Iβm used to (the chaos and grandiose of the Bronx). Believe it or not, one of the three games I went to was the 14-0 rout of the Yankees in late August when Cole was on the mound and a pop-up got stuck on the catwalk. I stayed for the entire game!
Watching now on MLB Network with a tear in my eye
I don't think I've ever hit a ball high enough to hit any of them, and I definitely haven't gotten a ball stuck up there.
Crossposting in a few places for more coverage:
So my wife and I are visiting the last week or so of September. We're staying in Bradenton. We're pretty familiar with SWFL in general - been going down there for several years, as her brother and sister-in-law lived in Punta Gorda for a few years, and are now in Bradenton.
My questions: we definitely want to catch a Rays game or two. Are seats usually available day-of-game, or should we make sure to get tix beforehand? We live in St. Louis, so we're used to getting them before, as most years many games sell out, even mid-week (this year is different, because we're sucking, but the Rays look like they're well on their way to another Series, so I didn't know how ticket sales were).
Second: we'll be celebrating our 20th anniversary while we're there. We kinda wanted to do a sunset cruise, but the only one we've been on is down in Punta, and I really don't want to have to drive an hour or so back afterwards. What are some good ones closer to Sarasota/Bradenton?
How about food? Neither of us are drinkers, so we're not into clubbing (although suggestions with NA beers/mocktails would be appreciated too). I'd love to take her someplace nice, but not second-mortgage nice.
Any other attractions? We've seen the Ringling joint, and really enjoyed that. Been to St. Armands, Mote Aquarium, etc. All good.
Thanks in advance for any info!
I'm considering doing a Rays franchise mode run, but noticed the upper deck seats are closed in-game. Is there a way to open them again, or will I be permanently stuck with the tarps covering the seats?
