Hello! I (27, m) am planning on cycling from London to Italy over Spring/Summer this year & I was hoping you guys could give me some advice, because I've never done anything like this. The furthest that I've cycled on a bike before this is two or three 100km races.
I've jotted down some of my thoughts below. Please let me know if you think I've missed anything. Breaking it down into the various sections:
Bike
- What type of bike should I go for & how much should I be looking to spend
- If I am buying second hand, what type of things should I look out for
- Where would a good place be to buy 2nd hand
- What spares/tools should I carry
- What breaks/goes wrong most frequently, if I wanted to focus on arrears to learn to repair (I'm fairly resourceful, can change tyres, tighten the brakes etc but I'm by no means an experienced mechanic).
- Should I lock my bike each evening or are campsites fairly safe
Kit
- How much weight should I be looking to limit the packing to?
- What clothes should I cycle in (I'm thinking cycling shorts & a t-shirt. Wash the shorts every 2 odd days & change the shirt each day).
- Any advice on tents (I am planning to buy a tent, little chair, sleeping bag. Do I need anything else, pillow/matt).
- Is it recommended to take pots/pans on this trip? (I'm budgeting EUR38 per day for food & was planning to eat out mainly).
- If I was using my phone for guidance, how would I keep it charged
- How much non-cycle kit should I pack (jeans/smart shirts for when in the towns for a couple of days).
Actual journey
- I've got an idea that I'll take the whole cycle in a relaxed manner (not necessarily planning my stops days in advance etc). Is this feasible, how would I find campsites/are there generally spaces available on the day
- I'm looking to cycle 80km-100km per day, most in the morning & then looking around the town in the afternoon/evening.
- The whole journey is close to 2500km, so at the 80km-100km I should have 10/12 days to spend in towns that I like.
- I'm planning to cycle in all purpose sneakers (wet weather, hiking running etc all rolled into one).
- How should I keep my valuables safe when I'm not with the bike (passport, wallet etc)
- I'm budgeting for tenting 60% of the time & then the rest in hotels.
Thank you in advance for any help/advice!
TLDR: I'm going on a long journey & I want to be prepped. What should I know?
This might sound silly, but I don't know anything about cars. I need to replace the front bumper on my Astra J Sports Tourer (1.6 Diesel, 136 hp, year 2014). Can I use a bumper from another model if I'm not able to find one specifically for Sports Tourer? I mean, can I use a bumper from Astra J Facelift, for instance, and put it on my Sports Tourer?
Also, should I look for an aftermarket bumper or rather a second-hand original one? (I can't afford new original)
When excitement around Group C increased exponentially and GT fields steadily dwindled for several years until actually logging just one entry in 1986 and 1987, production cars were completely removed from competing in the great race for 1988. This state of affairs lasted until 1993 when in the wake of the WSC collapse due to spiraling costs from their new F1-based formula, production cars were called back to stabilize participation in the event and from then on theyβve represented at least half the field as there had rarely been any pressure from growth in the classes above them. As things stand right now there could be as many as twenty top class entries at the 2024 edition of Le Mans in addition to the usual twenty five or so LMP2 privateers, it means that GT class participants would fall to around fifteen as garage space is maxed out a just over sixty total. This would put the race organizers in a difficult position because it leaves very little room on the grid for all the LMDH privateers that are expected to appear in the near future.
Hi everyone!
As stated above i am looking for other peoples opinion on what is the best leather suit out there for riding a sport tourer.
For a little background i started riding a few years ago with the need of saving money wherever i could. So i got my hands on used bike + gear (my gear does not even fit properly). Times changed and i am finally in love with my new motorcycle (Ninja 1000SX) and i now want to upgrade my gear as well. 1000$+ is still a lot of money but i spend a lot of time on my bike so it should be worth it.
I usually go for 1-day trips. About 300-400km, 90% mointain roads with fresh/sometimes cold air here in austria. Outdoor temperature is usually between 15-32CΒ° when i am on my bike (over 30 is pretty rare). I am not going for hardcore-wannabe-track-mode on the street but i like to eat a lot of corners rather fast (no hanging off or sth - just maybe a bit faster than the average cruiser likes it).
Enough background i think - at the moment i feel like the Dainese Laguna Seca 2 piece is a very good way to go, the best fit for my rider profile and now i would love to hear your opinion :)
The CDM Bianchi has no eyelets and the rear forks are super skinny. Would 10kg of equipment on the rear rack with clamps risk damage to the bicycle? I've heard it is possible to convert road bikes into tourers without eyelets but my bike looks super skinny. https://images.app.goo.gl/NXfPr4FBDPDV7vCa9 Considering buying a Jamis Aura if not
Hi everyone.
Came across this subreddit from r/MotoUK, hope you guys can help:
I have yet to try any bike above 125, so the 700 might be a bit of a stretch, as I am still a novice (full license test booked for 2022). Iβm thinking the CB500X is the best candidate, but I am concerned it will leave me wanting more after a few months ownership.
Any advice is appreciated!
