Not sure if this was ever pointed out here, but Christopher Heyerdahl (Todd the Wraith) has a cousin named Thor

I tried searching to see if this unimportant but fun little piece of trivia had ever been pointed out here, but didn't find it if it has. Anyways, Christopher has a "first cousin once removed" whose name is Thor Heyerdahl (or rather 'had', as Thor, who was a Norwegian explorer and ethnographer, passed away in 2002)

I apologize if this has in fact been brought up but I just found it a quirky and kinda cool little fact.

Thor Heyerdahl's Kon-Tiki expedition was supplied by the US Army. Why?

Did the US stand to gain something from proof of South American settlement of Polynesia? Norway has a rich tradition of maritime exploration, so why not just tell this strange fellow to go away and ask his own countrymen for help?

For clarification, I've read the book, seen the 1950 and 2012 movies, and even been to the Kon-Tiki Museum in Oslo, so I know the basic facts, but despite all that, I have yet to find a good history book from a reputable press about the Kon-Tiki expedition. Part of that, I suppose, is that Heyerdahl's anthropological work and historical conclusions seem... poorly supported, at best, and it's not really worth the effort to write about that anymore. But that doesn't really explain why people don't seem to write histories of the Kon-Tiki expedition as a historical event. But that's a digression.
