A lot of films that I tend to enjoy tend to be in the thriller genre. Whether these be films that are purely suspenseful, psychological thrillers, mysteries or even delving into horror territory, I absolutely adore thrillers. Currently, i’m in the mood for dark, gritty thrillers that revolve around revenge and violence. What are some other good ones similar to the three mentioned above that I would like?
Swedish or American?
I have a taste for movies that just pull me into their world with sound and atmosphere and I just love* rain, thunder, snow, all that stuff in movies.
Ghost Writer and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (Remake) are not the greatest movies, but I can just turn up the volume, lay back and get absolutely sucked into the movie. Even the indie Troll Hunter wasn't too great but that ending scene with the Blizzard, out in these open icy wastes.. it just gives me goosebumps.
I also love Blade Runner for the very reason, and there are many other movies I like simply watching for their dense atmosphere.
Does anybody have any recommendations based on this? I know it's a stretch but maybe somebody knows exactly what I mean.
Ok so I just like this movie for Lisbeth's character, I like how she is so sharp with everything she does, she is very direct with everything she says, she is quick, cunning, smart, organized, clever, quick witted, and she is really cool and bad-ass, she also is always sincere and she isn't the type to laugh or make jokes. I need more movies with characters like this. Please recommend!
This book is amazing. I'm almost done with it and already feeling sad that it's nearly over. I've looked at the other ones in the series and they don't seem to be really what I'm looking for. I want books similar in terms of plot/tone as this one, eg. Investigating a disappearance. I'm also writing a mystery right now, so I'm trying to read as many as I can before I get started.

I apologize for the wall of text. My time is too precious to read things I don't like but I will spend half an hour on a reddit post, that's not a problem.
So I read 60 pages and the book sucks because it was not written by Patrick Rothfuss. Where is my fairy sex? Where is my beautiful flowery prose?
I want to give up on the book because I hate everything about it but maybe there is a good story hidden in this incredibly popular thing? Who knows?

Movies with a somewhat bleak yet confident feel, something mysterious, and with lots of suspense.
Seriously, I haven't a heard a thing about the possibility of completing the American adaptation Stieg Larsson's "Millenium" trilogy in over a year. (Yes, yes, I know the Swedish movies exist. Yes, yes, I have heard that they're awesome.) The latest news was that the screenwriter of Se7en was coming aboard to help write it, but that was about 18 months ago, and no progress or murmurs of progress have been heard since.
EVERYONE associated with the first film, from director David Fincher to screenwriter Steven Zaillian to star Daniel Craig, have been silent about the possibility of a sequel. Even Rooney Mara, despite the fact that she owes much of her recent career to her Oscar nom for the first Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and would love to play the character again, says it's unlikely that a sequel will be made. Even if it were greenlit tomorrow, the earliest we would see it would be 2017 or 2018, a full 6 or 7 years since the first one, leading to declining interest and the possibility that Rooney Mara might become too old to play the character of Lisbeth Salander again.
It feels like a couple of factors are going on here:

Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara both had their stars rise because of the first movie, and find it difficult to schedule such an ambitious project, especially with Craig lining up the next couple of James Bond movies. Daniel Craig has apparently also requested a major pay raise since the blockbuster success of Skyfall that the studio might not be willing to pay.

David Fincher also has a busy schedule, but I think he might be personally reluctant to make a sequel. He views himself much more as an auteur, and would probably want to get away from completing a franchise trilogy to craft something more unique and personal to him instead (i.e. this fall's Gone Girl, also based on a bestselling crime thriller). So then the question becomes why not hire someone else for the job...?

Because the movie supposedly under-performed, there is this idea that the movie bombed and a sequel wouldn't be made because it is seen as too risky. But the first movie didn't bomb. Any movie that did $100 million domestic and almost $250 million worldwide should hardly be considered some sort of disappointment.
It seems like a wasted opportunity to not complete the trilogy. When freaking Twilight saga can get 5 (!) movies based on it, and Dan Brown's latest Robert Langdon books are getting movies despite the general "meh" kind of performance o

So about 2 or 3 months ago I saw a trailer of the US version of GWTDT and instantly decided that I wanted to read the book. It was everything I wanted from a mystery novel : An unlikely detective, a locked room mystery that isn't 300 pages long, a dark setting and universal acclaim. So I bought it as soon as possible but after reading the first 70 or so pages I found out that I simply could NOT comprehend the "financial" parts of the book. At first I thought it was probably going to stop after 50 pages, but it kept going on and on. I even skipped some pages ahead to see the dialogue and the charecters were still talking about "book keeping" and "speculation".
Simply put ; whenever these parts came up, I only got a hazy outline of what the charecters were talking about and even then I was spending much more time reading ONE page than I normally do.
Anyways, without spoiling anything could you tell me if these "economic" parts continue further on in the book and if not, does it atleast become easier to understand ? Because I don't expect everyone to understand this stuff.
Although they are both outstanding films, I'm particular to Fincher's style in the American version. I do, however, think that Noomie Rapace portrayed a better Lisbeth Salander over Rooney Mara's version. I'm by no means discrediting Mara's version but feel Rapace's Lisbeth is seemingly far more convincing. Contrary, I feel Daniel Craig played a better Mikael Blomkvist to Micheal Nyqvist version of the character in the film(s), though, like Rapace, is much more authentic. I personally don't have a preference between the two films but feel it is discussion worthy on the principal of original material executed brilliantly by two very different filmmakers. Any thoughts?

I saw the American version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and it is easily one of my favorite movies in recent memory. I am just wondering if i should read the first book, or if the movie is comprehensive enough to maybe read the wikipedia plot summary of the book and just move on to the second in the trilogy. Way back in the day i had to read the first two Harry Potter books AFTER seeing the movies and it was a real slog to get through them because the movie adapted like 95% of the book perfectly, so im just wondering if this is the same thing.
I've also read Dark Places and Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn.
I know these were extremely limited (and expensive, couldn't afford 300 at the time) and now they seem to be impossible to find. Any hints here, or anyone happen to be looking to sell? and how many were produced again?
