[Academic] Guilt and Shame in AAPI subpopulations (anyone who is AAPI and 18 or over)

Participate in AAPI Research!

Examining Guilt and Shame in Asian American and Pacific Islanders

Anyone who identifies as AAPI and is over 18 years old is eligible to participate.

Most research uses AAPI as an umbrella term and fails to distinguish between AAPI subgroups. This new study will examine how guilt and shame impact mental health for different AAPI communities.

Take the survey here: https://fullerton.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2oCMX1ZSspwiW7I

If you are interested in being interviewed over Zoom, you can provide your contact information in the survey. Those who complete an interview will be entered into a raffle for a $25 Amazon gift card!

If you have any questions/comments, please contact the principal investigators for more information at beatriceta829@gmail.com or rouvere@csu.fullerton.edu. You can also provide your email address to receive a copy of the final report when it is completed. Thank you!

Highlights

β€’ Spatial mapping of human subcutaneous white adipose tissue detects 18 cell types β€’ Neighborhood analyses identify cell classes with distinct clustering propensities β€’ We report three fat cell types with specific localization and mRNA/protein markers β€’ Only one of the three adipocyte subtypes responds to insulin stimulation in vivo

Summary

The contribution of cellular heterogeneity and architecture to white adipose tissue (WAT) function is poorly understood. Herein, we combined spatially resolved transcriptional profiling with single-cell RNA sequencing and image analyses to map human WAT composition and structure. This identified 18 cell classes with unique propensities to form spatially organized homo- and heterotypic clusters. Of these, three constituted mature adipocytes that were similar in size, but distinct in their spatial arrangements and transcriptional profiles. Based on marker genes, we termed these AdipoLEP, AdipoPLIN, and AdipoSAA. We confirmed, in independent datasets, that their respective gene profiles associated differently with both adipocyte and whole-body insulin sensitivity. Corroborating our observations, insulin stimulation in vivo by hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp showed that only AdipoPLIN displayed a transcriptional response to insulin. Altogether, by mining this multimodal resource we identify that human WAT is composed of three classes of mature adipocytes, only one of which is insulin responsive.

Why won't subpopulation (white/black/etc.) estimates sum to total population? US decennial census 2000 (county level)

I have county level demographic data for the US census 2000, available from the US Census Bureau (the first result if you search 'DP1 2000' at https://data.census.gov/). I have included a screenshot of what the data looks like here https://imgur.com/EGlrDmq.

I have been using total population counts in my regressions, but total population excluding black persons is more appropriate for my purposes - my concern is that subpopulation estimates won't sum to total population.

For example, adding 'White alone', 'Black alone', 'Native American alone', and '2 or more races' for Autauga, Alabama (in the screenshot above) yields 43689, which is 18 higher than listed total population 43671.

Can any demographers help me out? Is this just a negligible byproduct of sampling error, and not something to be concerned about? Am I missing something blindingly obvious?

Thanks :)
