Solifugae- This critter goes by many names. Common names include camel spider, wind scorpion, scorpion carrier, sun scorpion, sun spider and as many know him Red Roman. Despite these common names they are neither true scorpions, nor true spiders.

Sun spiders (Solifugae) in captivity?

I would like to get Sun Spider and I know a fair bit about the animal itself but info on the internet is a little unclear. I would like to learn about how to take care of them and how they behave from someone with first hand experience before I make a decision about getting one because I think it would be a really bad idea to get a unique animal like that without proper understanding. Anyone with experience that reads this post, pls let me know about how to keep them safely. Thanks in advance πŸ˜„

Below are arachnids called wind scorpions, also called camel spiders. These animals are actually not spiders or scorpions, but they are in a separate family called the solifugae. Wind scorpions are not venomous, but will kill any small animal it can overpower. reddit.com/gallery/jxaxb9

Solifugae are severely underrated

Gosh, anyone else feel the same way? I know, I know, arachnids are not the greatest in the meta, and the Arachnida guild is more often identified by the spiders and scorpions and such, but solpugids are just a fun as heck class.

You trade venom for insane bite damage and speed. Playing as a solpugid means you don't have to worry about desertic terrains, and if you're skilled enough you can reign terror over other players in the Arachnida guild due to having more raw strength.

All in all though really hidden gem of a class! Whenever I feel like playing Arachnida I almost always go for them, anyone else feel the same?

I hope TierZoo makes a video about arachnids in general in the future!

Where are the Australian Solifugae (Sun Spiders)

Aracnophiles of Reddit, does anyone know or have a theory why Solifugae are absent from Australia? We have some of the worlds oldest rain forests and deserts, and virtually all other arachnids are represented. It seems odd to me that they either did not spread here or died out. Any clues?

Dear Solifugae and future potential spinners

I should stop being so curious and drawn to spiders. The webs are so pretty and intricate that I get drawn in or lost in my own thoughts as the webs are woven around me and you set your carnivorous sights on me. I have been held in captivity all of my life and every time I think I’m starting to fly I find myself caught in webs or held in a gilded cage. I realized I was being Babydoll around you when I thought I had control of new wings. Babydoll loves attention no matter where it comes from even when she’s watching out for webs now. Babydoll will willingly hide her wings beneath a black and pink cloak to continue to be an appetizer. Babydoll is malleable. Change her hair and her outfit, brush her hair until it shines, and when you start to give her what she wants she thinks the web is even prettier and wants to see more. Maybe she can wear it like a thin veil between her and the world as a precious doll is often wrapped in shiny paper until you take her out to admire her and play with her. All of the dresses fit her perfectly and when you lay her down her eyes close naturally in such delicate repose. Being Babydoll is so much easier than the Bird attempting flight, but she’s much more dangerous to herself. Precious and fragile things need special handling, do you see what they put her through? What they failed to realize is that broken dolls have sharp edges that cut deeply. Babydoll is much more fun than a bird because she plays so well but sometimes she falls down a rabbit hole and her eyes get stuck open when she hits the bottom. Her dress is soiled but she’s so goddamn pretty you keep her until you cut your hands or she breaks herself into separate parts when you try to pick her up to fix her yourself. I hate Babydoll but I love her. Everyone loves Babydoll because all toys are fun but she gets outgrown and then she looks for the mushrooms that might grow in the rabbit hole because she knows they’ve given her a glimpse of herself before. Babydoll is tired and wants to close her eyes and let you wrap her up and when you decide to play with her she has new batteries and sometimes they’re too electrified. The broken pieces chafed her edges and she sees the mirror and steps through. A broken doll, however pretty in her many parts is still beautiful but she will use the sharp edges to cut herself when she sees how small she is after she takes the treats from a table. This time I went through the mirror and decided to take off the cloak and fly away before i
