A list of puns related to "Slaughterhouse Waste"
Everyone is complaining about the story but I just spent over an hour doing slaughterhouse 3000 for green quality rewards! And can I just add... WTF is with having two bosses either side and various enemies still spawning in the middle!
Ok, a bit more context: I'm from Belgium, where horse is a commonly eaten meat. I know you guys don't eat horses. But earlier I was wondering what you do with your horses when you have to get rid of them. I took to google, and at first I found a very straightforward answer: You exported them, to central europe. So your horses went to my plate! But then it said that these slaughterhouses were all closed down in 2007 after public pressure. And I can't find anything about what you do with it now. Do you turn it into dog food or something? I can't imagine you just waste it all?
edit: So according to your answers and a very useful provided USDA link: The common answer is burial, landfill (not everywhere), cremation (very expensive) and rendering, which does produce some animal feed! USDA also mentions the less common methods of composting and... a giant pressure cooker(???) called a biodigester and they seem very stoked about that thing. (also produces animal feed)
(When googling I also came across a guy who said he disposed of them with explosives but that might just be one guy who really wants to explode a dead horse and I can respect that.)
To exist in any cold climate, humans need warm clothing. Plant-based fabrics like cotton simply don't cut it when its 5 degrees out. To the best of my knowledge, the only fabrics warm enough to survive in cold weather are animal-based (wool, down, leather) or plastic-based (polyester, nylon, fleece, etc).
Raising sheep can be good for the environment:
Of course, industrial agriculture is bad for the environment. Feeding sheep unnatural diets such as excessive grain, poor waste management, and poor grazing plans all cause environmental strain. To be completely clear, I am not defending or promoting industrial agriculture. Industrial agriculture is not the only way to raise animals.
For example, I have connections to multiple farms that combine sheep with apple orchards. The sheep graze underneath the apple trees, both "mowing the lawn" and upcycling fallen fruit that cannot be sold or consumed by humans. The space under the apple trees would exist regardless of if there were sheep on it. You cannot use that space to grow a lot of additional crops, because you need to be able to walk on it/move carts to harvest apples/etc. The sheep poop provides fertilizer that enhances the soil and thus the health/productivity of the apple trees. It is an environmentally efficient use of land to have both systems working together.
Other environmentally sound sheep farms I have worked at/have friends who have worked at include systems where a solar field is used to graze sheep (sheep "mow the lawn" where it is difficult to reach due to the panels, panels in turn provide shade/shelter for sheep) and sheep being raised on a hillside which is so rocky that it cannot be used to produce significant amounts of vegetable crops. There were some perennials like berries and nut/fruit trees planted in that pasture as well.
The harvesting of wool and hides through shearing and slaughter can be done so that it causes minimal pain and stress:
Shearing sheep can be quick and cause minimal pain. Please don't link some video or PETA article that shows it being done poorly, like I said, I am not defending or promoting industrial agriculture. In "alternative"/non industrial settings, animals are secured firmly to minimize/avoid getting nicked by the clippers, but excessive force is not used. Trained shearers know how to handle and secure animals in ways that are safe and take their biological structure into account. As they are prey animals, once they are put into posit

"Why are we still sitting here? Shouldn't one of your shuttles have arrived to pick us up by now?"
The ranger took a moment to luxuriate in the poacherβs growing impatience.
Serves you right, the man thought vindictively before he replied. "We're sitting here because you still won't tell Hub where your ship is. Or anything about it. I don't want some tuned-up racer with a mining laser trying to engage us and rescue you en-route to the station.
The shuttles are very intentionally not combat craft, which is why so many governments - even ones unaffiliated with the OCF - are willing to let us put ranger stations in orbit around their backwater worlds. My point being that even insecure, wealthy civilians like your boss can afford hardware capable of threatening them.
Of course, you could just spill the beans and save us both a few more hours of sightseeing in this lovely but perhaps insufficiently varied jungle clearing." He turned to the poacher and cocked his head expectantly.
The mottled brush-coloured bundle stared at him levelly. "I already told you I can't do that."
The ranger shrugged back. "I remember. I didn't say anything about the wait then, because it's a transient perk of the job to watch scumbags squirm."
Somehow, he detected the poacher rolling their eyes beneath their helmet.
"You know, you're awfully sanctimonious for someone who doesn't know anything about me," the ghillie suit griped.
The ranger scoffed. "Oh please, this is me dialing it down. How long did you spend coasting here on zero-emissions so we couldn't spot you on the way in? This is a premeditated act of theft from the Garidien government. Not to mention you've almost certainly introduced invasive microorganisms to this world's biosphere whose impact will not be fully understood for decades or centuries."
The poacher made to reply, and the Ranger interrupted. "Spare me the justification, I've heard 'em all.
'Just doing what my boss tells me,' 'Everyone needs to earn a living,' 'I tried to obtain a license from their government but their xenophobic officials denied me!'
That last one is pure fabrication by the way, the Garidiens are easy as pie. They don't issue licenses for shit on Oh-Nine-Three and I'm literally the first person they would tell if they were even thinking about it."
"Actually I was going to say that I followed very strict decontamination prot

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Do your worst!
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
I said "hey look, an escaPEA"
No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies π
It really does, I swear!

On a pier a small group of Garthra, dressed as if they were going to a ball, stood in the darkness of night as if they were waiting.
After consulting an antique pocket watch, the oldest male opened a box in which there was one vial for each of them containing a number of pills.
βItβs time,β He said with as calm a voice as he could manage. βIβm so terribly, terribly sorry.β
βItβs ok, papa,β a young woman said as she reached in and took her vial and smiled at him.
Each of the others followed suit.
His finely dressed wife reached into a basket and pulled out a dust covered bottle and a small cloth. She wiped it clean and admired it for a moment before passing it to a servant.
Giving them a weak smile, the stripe pulled a corkscrew from his pocket.
He filled a glass for each of them.
βItβs been an honor, My Lord,β he said as he handed the eldest his glass.
βThank you, Gvvalan,β the richly dressed noble said.
βIβ¦ I shall take my leave now, My Lord,β Gvvalan said desperately trying to keep his voice from breaking.
βVery good, Gvvalan,β the baron replied.
Gvvalan walked away trying to keep his steps even until he was no longer in sightβ¦
...then, bursting into tears, he fled.
The Baron of Eastladen held the glass to his snout and inhaled.
βIt is as fine as a vintage as they say,β he said appreciatively, βI had hoped we would share it under better circumstances butββ
He cut his eyes back at his daughter, who had her tongue halfway down into the glass.
βMarruna,β he sighed with a weak smile, βCould you, this one time, at least try to practice decorum?β
Lady Marruna sucked her tongue back in.
They all turned to a distant mountain range as the planetβs moon started to rise above the peaks.
The Baroness nuzzled him fondly.
βEven after all of this time,β she sighed sadly, βIβve never tired of that sight.β
As the moon continued to rise, the Baron turned to the small group.
βFor over three quartrains the Eastladens have presided over this land, guided it through the years, the wars, the unification, and the peace that followed. Later, we helped guide our people into the very heavens themselvesβ¦β
He looked downward.
βAnd in the space of a single year, the last Baron of Eastladen ru

There was a study conducted in which they interviewed slaughterhouse workers to learn about how the job affects their well-being, I was quite shocked reading the study it's really interesting and you can even see the Jungian shadow play a role. I will copy-paste the most important part of the study down below. The part in which you can see the shadow play a role I will put it in bold, (titles are also in bold, but these aren't necessarily about the shadow), so if you want you can just skip a part of the text. I do recommend reading the whole text because it's really interesting
Becoming a slaughterer
The mental trauma of the first kill. Slaughter employees inevitably remember their first encounter with the slaughter floor and having to slaughter. They recall vivid images of blood and describe the experience as traumatic, feeling overwhelmed by the immediate requirement to kill and the anticipation of having to slaughter hundreds of animals on the very first day. During their first kill, slaughter workers remember feeling upset and experiencing physical shock manifested by shaking and shivering. RP8 recalls: βWhen I shot my first animal, I started shakingβ and RP10: βI was so scared, even when holding the gun, I was shaking.β Slaughterfloor employees were also emotionally disturbed by their first-time kill and noted feeling pained, saddened, and shameful. In the words of RP9 reflecting on his first slaughter, the traumatic experience of the first kill is evident as well as how this emotive experience fades into detachment which is discussed as part of the (mal)adjustment phase below:
The first time when I killed it was not easy for me. I feel pity for it. I felt I just wanted to close my eyes, turn around, and run away. It was really sad but the more you do it the easier it gets. Like yesterday I had to shoot cows in the kraal. I climbed over the fence, walked to the cow, and just shot it. I feel nothing anymore. In the beginning, it was very bad.
Recurring nightmares and dreams. During their initial employment phase and in an immediate couple of months thereafter, slaughterers frequently have vivid dreams about their work. Slaughter employees narrated paranoid nightmares and dreams filled with fear and anxiety. In fleeing from vengeful cattle, being confronted by slaughtered cattle who fail to die, seeing animals in pain, fighting with and being watched by animals, feelings of guilt, shame, and fear are reflected i

And the worst part is that it didn't have to be that way. They had potential to make some great movies but wasted their time on pointless sequels and generic kiddy flicks.
> Ice Age (2002) - Easily the best and only good Ice Age movie. The story is well-written and tightly paced, the humor is great, the characters have a lot of charm, the movie actually knows how to take itself seriously and doesn't go overboard with the comedy. It can be silly, but not to the point where it kills the mood or gets annoying. In fact, most of the humor actually comes from the dry, witty and quiet banter between the characters. Also, this movie is a prime example of how less is more. The story is pretty simple, but sometimes, the basics are all you need, and the execution can make it something special, and Ice Age has a brilliantly executed story. Not to mention it also has a handful of characters that it focuses on, allowing them to get some development and for the story to flow naturally. Sure, the animation does look pretty dated compared to today's standards, but it still looks pretty good for what it is. I can definitely see how this would be so good to start off the legacy of Blue Sky. If only the later movies in their filmography were of the same quality.
> Robots - I don't remember much from this movie, and honestly, I don't like the idea of rewatching it.
> Ice Age: The Meltdown - Terrible sequel. Weak story, highly childish tone (especially compared to the first film), unfunny humor, Crash & Eddie are extremely annoying, and Ellie's gimmick of how she thinks she's a possum gets old fast. The only good things about it are the Scrat scenes and the improved animation.
> Horton Hears a Who - Terrible movie, especially as an adaptation of a Dr. Seuss book, and hands-down the most overrated Blue Sky film. Seriously, to this day, I STILL cannot fathom why people like this one so much. The story is way too short to be stretched into a 90-minute film and is padded out with unfunny humor, overly chatty scenes, pointless conflicts and an ABSURD amount of filler. The bride/dentist scene is the worst offender of them all. Instead of watching this one, go watch the Chuck Jones version. It's more faithful to the book, better paced, more timeless and way less annoying.

Slaughterhouse workers are often immigrants who need a job and so they go work as a slaughterhouse worker because most people don't want that job and so there are a lot of job opportunities. I read a really interesting study in which they interviewed slaughterhouse workers, I really recommend you to read this, just scroll down until you see a title called "becoming a slaughtered" https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4841092/#!po=32.2368
