A list of puns related to "Rumormonger"
I was fired for willfully violating policy, something that he knew about for years but conveniently ignored until I pissed him off.
I'm not hoping to get my job back and frankly am looking to completely change careers.
The only thing I want from this is the internal satisfaction of him believing that his boss knows he's a piece of shit.
Today's spell is Rumormonger!
What items or class features synergize well with this spell?
Have you ever used this spell? If so, how did it go?
Why is this spell good/bad?
What are some creative uses for this spell?
What's the cheesiest thing you can do with this spell?
If you were to modify this spell, how would you do it?
Does this spell seem like it was meant for PCs or NPCs?
Paulie is a very old and mostly blind Kenku. His colors have faded, and there's a featherless patch of bare skin on one shoulder, but his wings used to be brilliant blue, green, and yellow. He sits by the docks, repeating rumors he's heard for coin.
"Squawk! Kenku has news if you have coin!"
And yes, Paulie does want a cracker.
So, Iβm a little fuzzy on the βChanging Game Stateβ requirements for actions, and wanted some help.
Example: I use Calling in Favors to steal Ornate Fan for Bayushi Shojo, dishonoring him. Young Rumormonger interrupts to redirect the dishonor.
Since the dishonor is part of the cost in CiF, does that mean that the character I am redirecting it to must be capable of being dishonored? Or, is the cost considered paid, and the redirect is separate, allowing you to dishonor an already dishonored character?
And, if itβs the second one, does that count as changing the game state for the purposes of being a legitimate action, or would you have to select a character capable of being dishonored?
Iβm thinking this is legal, since Shojo is paying the cost of taking the dishonor, and Rumormonger is redirecting that to another character, and that it would change the game state from Shojo receiving the dishonored token versus not receiving it.
Edit - The core of my question is this: if something is in the process of happening, is that process part of the game state?
##Welcome Back to the Crossroads
> You arrive at the Crossroads, as you always do, a place that is never quite the same, but never quite different, and always offers a moment's respite from the dusty trails you roam. At this one you find the ruins of an abandoned town. A beggar huddles beneath their rags and leans against the only sturdy building in view. A mottled, wasted hand holds up a tin bowl and their reedy voice fills the air between you, "We offer Gossip and Information for coin..."
I'll then show my Players an image of The Beggar. (by Tatiana Vetrova)
And if any of the Adventurers manage to see through his Illusion they will find The Beggar's True Visage (by Andrey Surnov):
>Your keen eye slips through the Beggar's meager illusion to reveal a Mindflayer that looks as if they have been stricken with a wasting sickness. The tentacles that hide the beak of their mouth are swollen and ooze an unhealthy looking viscous fluid.
Note: My players are headed to the rural city of Triboar, which I recently spent quite a bit of time overhauling (I ended up with over 73 NPCs spread out over 31 different locations), and this post doubles as session Prep for my Saturday game. Soooo... you might have to do a little work to make this Encounter work for your campaign by changing the location/setting and creating your own table of rumors.
The rumors listed in this table are highly specific to my campaign, but are hopefully compelling and intriguing enough to make a good template for your own table of rumors.
I also didn't provide the DCs or specific Skill Challenges I'm going to use for this Encounter, as I hope you'll tailor those to your own Band.
The Beggar & Rumormonger will offer 1 rumor for any amount of coin. If one of the players donates coin to the Beggar, they will say:
>"Our news is old and secondhand, but if you take it in your mouth with grains of salt you'll see true what lies ahead of you."
I'll then have the Player roll 1d8 on the Rumors Table and narrate the result in the Beggar's voice:
1d8 | Rumors |
---|---|
1 | "The Heir to the Emerald Throne plagues these lands with the vile magic of her people. Guard your words when you see the Pretty Pink Petals that mark her presence." |
2 | "Harden your Heart when you see Lavender Eyes. they betray a Cruka addict |
(Tuesday, 3rd July, Okina-> Pale Fire Night Club, Late Night, Cloudy)
Glass breaks in an alley, a cat meows somewhere in the night as the streetlights flicker in the dying night. The bulidings rise up on either side of the street and seem so cavernous, the way his footsteps echo off their walls. He's tempted to yell something, just to test it, but doesn't. It wouldn't be good to draw attention to himself; he was a man on a mission after all.
As he gradually gets closer to his destination, he hears the thumping of a beat pound not so much with his ears as much as he feels it in the soles of his feet. "It must suck to live around here, no peace and quiet for anything."
Arata walks along, there's a line outside. Not exactly a long one, but he never did like waiting around for things like this. He casts an eye around the street, looking for... well, he didn't know what exactly. "Pattern. There has to be a pattern I can anticipate."
He frowns. Too many questions, and Asa hadn't answered any of them. Isamu had known the rumor, but didn't know the crucial details. Then again, Isamu never really had gotten why these things were important to him.
Arata sighs as the bouncer lets people in one at a time. He'd been here before, no booze, but after a fight last year they'd step security up a notch. Of course, he didn't know anything about that fight himself, no sir, just there for the atmosphere.
(I get it's a weird time and a weird place for people to be, though I always like reading some of the crazy reasons people think of to be places cough chasing butterflies cough.)
When young rumormonger chooses an alternative target for honor/dishonor, can he choose one which already has that token?
The reason I ask is that "choose another character" is the cost, so I'm wondering if the "that character receives the honor or dishonor instead" effect is optional.
*Tattle Tale Merit Badge: Based on the video shown at BYUI where students were encouraged to tattle on their classmates they caught masturbating. Similar to a soldier aiding a wounded comrade.
**Rumormonger/Gossip Merit Badge: For spreading unfounded or untrue rumors about those that leave TSCC.
Cost: 2. Military: 2. Political: 2. Glory: 1.
Interrupt: When a character would be honored or dishonored, choose another character controlled by the same player β that character receives the honor or dishonor instead.
