Managing dam outflow/Down stream river engineering.

Does anyone who keeps up with the minutae of update blogs know if dams have been updated much since launch in 2015? The way they work is fairly interesting but seems so weirdly optimised. A torrential flood flowing through the dam, creating an absurdly deep river which bursts it's banks frequently, has just net me a 140 to 300 Mw output. This is especially a problem when building anywhere above sea level as anyone who has tried working with the water simulation to create sloped rivers will know. Is it easier to create a level/flat 'lower resevoir' buffer so to speak for water to pool in at the base of the dam before spilling into a river than to have the water flow directly into a river?

Civ V, connecting capital to other cities over river without Engineering research.

(pretty much the title, but explanation anyway)
Somewhat recently got back into Civ V, absolutely loving it, now playing as Rome. I haven't researched Engineering yet for bridges, but want to connect two of my other cities that are on the other side of the river(really long river going through continent, placing my cities alongside it), does it connect it but not reduce MP usage or do I just need to wait?

Need help regarding river engineering

Hey guys,

Im working on my bachelor thesis at the moment about building ecosystems using native vegetation and for the past week I found only very limited information about the survivability of these plants. For example I need to find out what’s the needed flow velocity, depth to groundwater etc to know for which rivers these plants would be suitable. Does any of you guys maybe know were I can find such information ?

Thanks in advance and please excuse my English as it’s not my first language.
