Repugnant Puns

For good reason we’ll never get it, we probably shouldn’t, what the man did is unforgivable and any conversation around him gets rightfully derailed…but man do I wish we could live in an alternate universe where Polanski never committed that assault so we could get Podsmary’s Casty. So many interesting films in there even beyond the obvious masterpieces.

Does anyone else have a series they wish was in the cards but isn’t due to the filmmaker’s horrible actions or personal controversies?

I’d say Paulie killing the old lady for her savings and Ralphie killing Tracy are near the top. Dark horses are Janice taking the Russian’s leg and Tony telling Chris the random cop killed his dad.

I’ve read reports that Egwene was supposedly Rafe’s favourite character and I’m genuinely at a loss as to why. Her failings are so many that I genuinely feel that were she a real person she would be considered repugnant. For example:

• she’s an almighty hypocrite, whether it be criticising Perrin for using his muscles to resolve arguments (despite Perrin’s refusal to do that very thing) then attempting to use the power on Rand when he refuses to do what she wants in TGH; or taking advantage of Nyn’s admission that she lies to cover up her own lies to the wise ones.
• subjecting Nyn fo what reads very much like sexual assault to scare her into keeping quiet about her own ventures into TAR.
• assuming she knows better how to save the world than Rand even when he has reclaimed his knowledge from past lives, whilst she has never even completed accepted lessons in the tower. She seems to believe she acquires wisdom from the literal amyrilin seat by some form of osmosis.
• following what seems to be an odd trait of female channellers of allowing men to die by the thousand rather than intervening decisively themselves to end the battle until they themselves are affected directly: Ellisande at the fall of Manetheren; Amalisa’s sister at Tarwin’s gap; Egwene at Merrilor

Enemies should not have variable amounts of health. Having fights where I say, "guess I'm losing this" because my crosshair is blue, that's not Battlefield. Battlefield used to always be about "the better player wins." Now it's just whoever has armor.

You can tie every problem with humanity back to lies. Poverty and homelessness? A sick joke by the few with the most "money". Just try it: name one and it's easy. Money is already something with a value that's always changing based on the few biggest money-havers' whims.

Sure you can make up all kinds of valid excuses related to how our societies work..but those excuses are excusing LIES. Somehow the idea that not being deceptive has gradually just been accepted by the majority. I.e. "just lie on your resume or never get a job"...as if that's a totally cool thing to do.

And of course, no, you're not meant to tell everyone your business. Having a personal life is innately afforded to everyone. That doesn't make you liar.

However choosing to be dishonest (with the knowledge that the action is dishonest) is an act of violence against all of humanity. If one person is lied to, everyone is lied to. If one person lies to somebody, they're lying to EVERYBODY, because they choose to be doing that.

Lies are violence. Lies are poison. Stop lying and stop making excuses for lying. Humanity is not beyond an honest livelihood, the people in power just like to keep humanity thinking so.

The Washington DC Council voted 12-1 in October to approve the Minor Consent to Vaccinations Act, allowing minors age 11 and over to consent without parental awareness if a doctor says they are capable of informed consent. Children either are or aren't truly capable of informed consent at certain ages/stages of development. Informed consent laws are in place because they recognize the limitations of minors and certain other individuals to make educated decisions for themselves about critical matters affecting their health and overall well-being. If a doctor were to assert that a child were capable of consenting to sexual congress with an adult would that mean that the child were truly capable of such a thing and the adult not be guilty of statutory rape? The push to reduce consent and protections is not only an affront to individual rights, it's dangerous on its face, sets a dangerous precedent and slippery slope, and is further repugnant given what is widely known indicating the senselessness of vaccinating children for Covid-19.

A "barely worth living life" has, for me, negative utility. You don't have to be a hardcore pessimist to say that some lives have probably negative utility but the person living them thinks they are worth it. A "barely worth living life", of course, would have negative utility; it just seems obvious to me. People from group Z with low positive utility would have, in fact, a pretty good life. If you look a lot of miserable people but that don't want to kill themselves you won't think: "oh yes, overall the pleasure outweights the suffering", it seems absolutely nonsense. Did I just solved the repugnant conclusion within a total hedonism framework being a little pessimistic?

Edit: I looked it up in the Stanford and some philosophers say this. It just seems obvious to me, I am surprised that Parfit didn't think that. Singer CAN'T think that because, following his hedonistic act utilitarianism, suicide would be VERY advisable to a lot of people.

Edit 2: I didn't explained myself very well. The idea is that I think that world Z is pretty good because is has positive utility, and lots of normal lives probably just have negative utility. World Z is full of people with normal or good lives.

About a "barely worth living life". For Parfit it is a life with low positive utility, I think this is a definition, wrong or very pessimistic. It may be wrong because I would probably call "barely worth living" a life with negative utility. It may be pessimistic because I think lots of normal lives have negative utility, so they would be not worth living
