A list of puns related to "Proprietary Software"
Hi everyone, I don't know in your countries, but in mine it's common that to sign documents you're compelled to use Adobe Sign or DocuSign.
My question, why on Earth would corporations/administration want to use this when GPG is libre. It makes no sense to me.
GPG is safer, better, cheaper, so what's the point?
Seriously folks, I do not think I would invest in a gaming company that loses money or a movie company that has had its day. CLOV on the other hand has a great future; Obamacare is here to stay, 10,000 people turn 65 per day, more and more states see the opportunity to reduce medical costs by the application of CLOV software. This will balloon in time, great management team, expanding rapidly, hiring key staff, and expanding business across the country. This is a no brainer, a short squeeze is only a bonus in my mind.
What stand alone MP3 player do you use?
EDIT
I messed up the description. I am looking for a physical MP3 player
[SOLVED] Hi everyone! Former arch user here, enjoying gentoo so far. In fact, It's one of the most fascinating GNU/Linux distros I have ever used. But i have a problem with steam. Steam is software that I had problems with on nearly every distro, and gentoo is no exception. Steam doesn't install, even though I followed all the steps on the gentoo wiki. I added it into the repository with layman etc..
But when it comes to installing it with emerge with emerge --ask games-util/steam-launcher as they told me on the wiki,
It gives this output:

Do you guys have a preference which software is better?
...but not in the capacity it is now.
(In case you don't understand what I'm going to be talking about, the FSF and GNU Foundation has a handful of (albeit biased) articles on this subject)
Also I'm not fact checking any of this, I'm kind of just rambling and it's late so yeah.
Proprietary software is anything that does not follow the four essential freedoms as according to the GNU foundation. These include the ability to view the source code, modify it, run it, and/or share it freely; or as GNU put it, "free as in freedom, not free as in beer."
However, there's another problem present in the realm of software: money. If the GNU's "perfect" system were to be put in place, software companies will have to depend on donations to keep them alive.
Although for some companies, such as Canonical, this works fine. However, for a company like Microsoft, this would not work fine. This would mean that they would lack support, putting even more ads in their OS, etc, etc. And with the average Windows user probably not even understanding what free software is, they would likely not think about donating or giving back at all. Whereas in Canonical's situation, the majority of people using Ubuntu do understand that it is free software and what that means, meaning they are more likely able to give back, whether that being via donating, answering questions online, or even contributing to the OS itself.
The GNU foundation has presented a fic to this situation, allowing paid software to be "free," but this presents yet another problem: How would they protect people from just distributing the source, or removing the DRM portion of the code and distributing that?
And, unlike binaries, we're talking about text. Text can be easily shared between people, as it can be represented in a way that is humans understand. Even if there was some sort of DRM on source code, somebody can easily copy+paste it into a standard text file.
It's piracy. Piracy is the only reason that allows for this system to be put into place. People can't be trusted, and i can't blame 'em. Some people are poor and can't afford stuff, others don't want to support the developer for whatever reason, others aren't able to get the software in their portion of the world. Those are all completely valid reasons to pirate software.
But there's reasons that DRM is in place for many s

I cannot find any info about getting the individual camera stream URL's so that I could possibly use iSPY or Agent, or ANY other software for that matter.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
I have tried RTSP but I can't even get that to work properly :|
I am a student from Germany and am currently forced to use closed source software for remote education. The Free Software Foundation Europe has started a petition against that, and it would be really awesome if you all could sign it!

I know that this petition has been around for quite some time now, but regarding the low number of signs I thought I'd post this here. Thank you all!
Hoi,
I recently switched to linux (I use arch btw)
for swiftness reasons, found windows too bloated for my taste, and it had gotten to a point where booting could take up to 10 minutes (A good chunk of that would just be me staring at the desktop waiting for it to let me click something).
I know I am on linux, but I don't mind prorietary software and I would like to avoid having to pay for it if possible. Is there a source, where I can download proprietary software for linux but cracked?
There isn't any proof that a proprietary piece of software actually protects you. Even their privacy policies cannot be trusted, who knows with what government agency might a software company be partnered with. In property software we cannot see what is truly inside it, we just have to hope they are not lying to us.
Ideally, the tablet would work completely including the touchscreen, but if i am only able to get a video feed that is fine by me.
Some other 'stretch goals' would be allowing me to manually switch between the car's computer and the pi as the input sources and allowing the backup camera to override when in reverse (as it does already)
I already have all the parts I need (i think) but my main concern is the process. I've never done any car hacking and the last thing i want is my car's computer not working because of something i couldve prevented. So if any of you have some tips, resources, or anything, the help would be very much appreciated.
Edit: i am a dumbass and forget my car information. 2019 Kia Forte
Is there any way / How to install software (especially Zoom and Teams) so that it won't mess up a clean Linux installation/setup (like proprietary software tends to do)?
I suppose it would need some kind of containerization or a jail. Running another OS in KVM/Qemu isn't probably a good solution.
I know this is not 100% Linux specific, but thought this could be a good place to post this anyway.
