A list of puns related to "Positivist School"
I've read an article that introduced me to the philosophical and epistemological approaches to IR. Based on what little I understand, would it be correct to say that realists are the most positivist because they tend to focus on historical events and economic/military statistics as evidence? On the other hand, would constructivist be associated with post-positivism? How does Marxists and liberals fit in this?
Its a thread where the discussion is about dating people you met while your were teaching them IN HIGH SCHOOL and the creeps seep out of the woodwork to make sure we all understand that it could have been perfectly fine and we don't know all the details and even if we do, it's still perfectly fine.
"It isn't something that needs to be justified."
If the law says it's ok, that's all that matters.
In a thread about grooming, another user shows up to make sure everyone knows that people can fuck who they want! A totally unproblematic comment in this context!

Alright this has probably been asked before, or something like this, but I can't find a satifying answer on google/other subs, so heres one more shot.
If life is meaningless, then why get out of bed? Why go to work, when the work you do, doesnt matter, its just a way to get money to buy more shit. I mean where I work, if features don't get finished, they just get pushed out into the next release, or gets the bureucratic treatment of switching the stories to bugs, so literally the work I do doesn't matter. The deadlines are just incentive for my corporate overlords to encourage higher rates of production, when it reality, it doesn't really matter, the numbers they care about always look good anyways.
So for those who identify or accept the moniker of nihilist, how do you come up with enough justification to muster the courage to take a shower and head into the office, then face a group of people and tell them some crap you'll be 'working' on today? I don't understand how one is suppose to have such a bleak view of the world, yet still continue to serve under its rule and play its little games? Even if your not working, like its the school or the weekend or something, how do you get out bed and say 'this irony that is life is worth living'?
Don't really think the answer along the lines of 'life doesn't matter, death doesn't matter, therefore I live instead", is enough of a justification to keep pushing the boulder of life. To "believe" that what you do as meaningless and accept it's absurdity anyways, isn't really working for me anymore. I'm looking for more a justification for the trivialities that happend in your day.
To say, that their is no inherent justification, or to question why there even is a need for a justification, to me is bullshit. We all have to get out of bed in the morning, attribute it it to our programming or whatever, and come up with some form of a justification for what happened in that day, no matter how trivial or benign of an activity was performed. Then to wake up the next day get out of bed, and go and do something, all requires some form of motivation that would justify whatever trivial projects you are about to start or finished. I mean how do you find pride, or a sense of satisfaction, when you find anything you do, above getting out of bed, as trivial?
To laugh at the irony of life is no longer enough. Life is far too involved, you need some form of meaning to justify living it. I mean others find this justification any

Based on her profound study and practice of Buddhism, Blanche has often told us that the SGI is not truly Buddhism at all (example).
Of course, we all believe she is entitled to her own opinions. We also encourage her to join the long line of scholars who over the course of some 2,500 years have fiercely debated what is and isn't Buddhism.
In this "Boring" series we have shown how modern scholarship would take exception to Blanche's claims. It is becoming absolutely boring to see scholar after scholar include Soka Gakkai Buddhism as well as Nichiren's teachings as authentic schools of Buddhism.
The point is not whether School A is better than School B. The issue is that modern scholarship sees the SGI as as a legitimate topic in Buddhist study.
Today we travel to the land of Uruguay where scholars Ismael Apud, Mauro Clara, and Paul Ruiz, of the Universidad de la RepΓΊblica (Uruguay), in their article "Linajes budistas en Uruguay" survey the status of Buddhism in their country.
The article is written in Spanish except for the Abstract:
>The arrival of Buddhism to Uruguay is related to various historical and cultural factors, such as the democratic opening at eighties, the progressive globalization in the country, the break of post (modernism) with a hegemonic rationalist-positivist model, the emergence of so-called New Religious Movements and opening of goods symbolic-religious markets, generally aimed at middle and upper social strata with economic and cultural capital is conducive to the proposed use of existential and introspective way of life. In this paper we analyze the arrival of the different Buddhist lineages in Uruguay (Tibetan and Japanese), and the historical and socio-cultural context which activates their emergency.
Various forms of Buddhism that have taken root in Uruguay are described in the article. In their discussion about Soka Gakkai, the authors state:
>Actualmente, la Soka Gakkai es la instituciΓ³n budista mΓ‘s numerosa en Uruguay. SegΓΊn cifras de la organizaciΓ³n ascienden a 700 familias, lo que arrojarΓa un total aproximado de 2000 adeptos. *(Currently, the Soka Gakkai is the largest Buddhist institution in Uruguay. I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Pilot on me!!
Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.
This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.
If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.
Jack Kornfield quotes AndrΓ© Gide:
'Know that joy is rarer, more difficult, and more beautiful than sadness; once you make this all-important discovery you must embrace joy as a moral obligation.'
I can't find the source of this quote. An Internet search turns up a few 'inspiring quotes' sites that lack references. A search in Google Books turns up some books by Jack Kornfield and other new-agey positivist writers who are too wonderful to cite references for their quotes. I searched every text by Gide at gutenberg.org. I asked my French friend (a retired school teacher). I translated it into French the best I could then searched for that.
When I got home, they were still there.

I was browsing r/teachers while eating lunch, trying to decide if I wanted to post and ask about the behavior management strategies being used in my kid's kindergarten classroom and school more generally. So many of the posts were of the "Kids these days..." variety, which reminded me of teachers I've worked with directly (as a mental health consultant) who often commented that kids are "getting worse" both in terms of behavior and in terms of mental health. Which then led me to think about the families I worked with when I was a direct service mental health clinician and all the data/stats that are being published about children's mental health worsening.
All of those little threads kept twirling around in my brain and keep connecting back to how we think about children and how we think about what's important with respect to parenting and teaching and engaging with and around children. As I try to find the common threads between home and school, and internalizing and externalizing behaviors, I find myself wondering if the emphasis on science-based practices and positivistic approaches toward children might actually be doing some harm.
In looking at my kid's kindergarten classroom, for example, I can see all the "evidence-based practices" his teacher is implementing. They have clear rules that are positively stated. They practice what it means to be a "good listener" and to show "ready to learn" behaviors. They have a cozy corner to help learn to regulate emotions and take regular "brain breaks" to move their bodies. They have all the curricula and research-based teaching strategies. Kids get positive reinforcement for being on task and following directions and all the things. Basically, on paper, his teacher is doing everything right.
In practice, though, it feels all wrong. His teacher doesn't seem to have an actual, genuine relationship with any of the kids in the classroom. Their schedule is blocks of targeted learning time with specific objectives for each period with no flexibility or deviation. My kid doesn't visit the cozy corner, even when he's feeling worried or upset because, as he says "it's not for playing and I'll probably get in trouble for not using it appropriately." The movement breaks are scripted dance routines from GoNoodle and kids have to follow the directions. There's no play and it feels like there's very little joy or fun or delight happening.
All of these things got me thinking.... What are the potential short- and long-
