Does anyone realize how horrible Shea Moisture is for low porosity hair?

I know the low porosity line got discontinued but I remember trying out their shampoos from the Manuka Honey line (brown one) and Jamaican Castor oil shampoo as well. The conditioners from the same lines made my hair feel dry and weighed down just like the shampoos since the oils and butters are extremely high on the ingredient list which is horrible for low porosity hair. My hair feels a lot more moisturized with the Kinky Curly products since they don't have a ton of oils and butters like Shea Moisture.

Hair porosity

I honestly do not understand hair porosity. I’ve been trying to figure it out for such a long time. I have short 4b/c hair, my hair tends to get frizzy and dry. I struggle a lot with finding products that go with my hair, gives it definition and moisture. And products that can make it grow because it just won’t grow past just underneath shoulder length

Here are some other β€œfacts” about my hair so maybe y’all can help me figure it out:

  1. Water penetrates my hair easily and weighs it down immediately

  2. When I spray water on my dry hair close up the water beads stays on top of my hair. But when I spray it further away it soaks up in my hair immediately

  3. I’ve tried the strand test in water with dry clarified and it floats.

  4. I’ve also tried another test where you drag a strand of hair in between your fingers on clean clarified hair to feel if the hair is bumpy. I feel small bumps along the hair when I drag it up towards my scalp, but when I drag it down I don’t really feel the bumps and it’s almost smooth.

  5. Some products also leave white gunks and flakes in my hair. Even if I mix them together on my hand before to see if they match together. This also happens with just one products alone

  6. Also my hair dries very quickly without any product but as soon as I use any product it takes so long to dry

I’ve also tried to do quizzes online and I mostly get high porosity or super low porosity. I hope anyone can help me determine what porosity I have. I just need to figure out so I can get somewhat of a better understanding of what my hair needs.

How can I find my hair type, density, and porosity?

I’ve posted here before with pics but only got one reply (it was helpful, but just hoping for something a bit more specific). Never had a curly hair routine or specific products. Tried many but none are β€œthe one” so far. My hair tends to get greasy if I use products so I usually use only one product once washed and use either very little or mix it with water. I also have a dandruff-prone scalp if that has anything to do with starting caring for my curls. Any help? Advice? Websites I can fine out about my hair type etc? Products?

At this point, please tell me my porosity. I have looked everywhere for help.

I have no idea what my porosity is. It has so many characteristics of both high, low and medium and I don't know why.

I have 2c, fine, high density hair. It takes ~1 hour to dry, is extremely protein sensitive, is never oily, takes awhile to absorb products but gets wet instantly, always feels dry, doesn't develop product build-up easily, and doesn't hold styles very easily. I think it's also important to mention I live in an extremely dry climate at high altitude, (2,900m/9186ft), and I'm someone who deals with dry skin too, so many that's related to my hair? I don't know. Could someone help me out or at least relate to me?

Thank you so much! Edited for spelling.

Can naturally high porosity hair change to medium/low porosity?

I have been naturally curly for about 2 years now. Rarely ever straighten my hair (and when I do I use the dyson hair dryer and straightener) and I have no chemical damage. At the beginning of my journey, when I chopped off all my heat damage, I still couldn’t understand why my strands where so bumpy and my hair was so frizzy and had no definition. It wasn’t until I realized that my hair is very porous.

I started using more protein heavy products and been able to achieve the definition I craved. I also got into olaplex and aphogee. But two year later my hair is still high porosity and I just hate how rough and bumpy my strands are and prone to split ends. I also love defined curls so I hate all the random frizzy strands that don’t cooperate (especially in the crown area)

No one in my family has high porosity hair. I’m the only one. My understanding is that porous hair = damaged, so there’s no going back. Is it possible to protect the hair from the root as it is growing out to keep it from becoming high porosity?

Itchy scalp and low porosity hair

I’ve always had an itchy scalp and I know it used to be from oil. Once I started a modified WGM, my hair got way less oily but it’s still itchy. I’ve noticed small flakes and some acne, but I’m not sure if it’s actually dandruff or not. I have to wash my hair every other day because the itchiness becomes unbearable. I tried ACV but it made my hair brittle and fall out even after diluting it a lot. I started using coconut oil as a pre poo, but recently learned it’s not great for low porosity hair. It helps some but my scalp still gets somewhat itchy.

I’m trying to find some good shampoos that will help, or any other products that may help. It’s winter where I am so I think that’s also making it worse. I started using a free and clear conditioner and I’m wondering if the matching free and clear shampoo is good? Will it strip my low porosity hair? I’m trying to find better ways to moisturize my hair as well since I’m finally learning how to take care of my low porosity hair. Does anybody have any suggestions?

(I want to go to a dermatologist but my dad recently lost his job so we don’t have insurance atm, and this seems kind of unimportant to pay for fully considering everything else. I’m paying for all of my hair products because I just graduated and don’t have many bills)
