A list of puns related to "Polypectomy"
Lots of people post about their HSG experience, which I found really helpful, so I wanted to share my hysteroscopy and polypectomy experience and recovery.
Going in, I felt well-prepared because my doctor talked me through the procedure and then the surgical coordinator sent a prep email. I was not prepared.
Letβs go from least to most horrifying.
First, kind of minor but I told the nurse that sometimes Iβve had trouble finding a vein when getting blood drawn or an IV. She put a heating pad on my arm, which she said would help, and then came back. Then she proceeded to dig around in my arm with the IV needle. I could feel it moving under my skin side to side, which really bothered me. I still have a bruise over a week later.
After the procedure, I asked the nurse how many polyps were removed and she kind of looked at me weird and said they donβt really keep track, but they do send samples for biopsy. I went home and slept most of the day and that evening and the next day had some pinkish blood mixed with clear discharge. This felt like it was pretty normal and manageable.
For those first few days, letβs just say that when the after care sheet says you might want to use colace or Metamucilβ¦well I should have taken that to heart.
EDIT TO ADD: in terms of pain, the post-op gas was the worst part of it. I guess that goes hand in hand with the constipation, but the day after the procedure, I had moments of writhing in bed due to gas pains. Must have mentally blocked that out prior to this retelling of the story.
Two days after the procedure I felt a gush in the morning. It was bright red blood, and quite a bit. Since this was a weekend and my clinic was closed and this was not mentioned anywhere in my after care info, I turned to Google and found that was normal. Whew. That day I also thought I noticed a little gray thing on the toilet paper, but chalked it up to those occasional rough spots in the toilet paper itself.
Well. I was wrong about that. The next day, I wiped and saw to my horror a large gray flap of flesh the size of two quarters. I was grossed out and horrified. Once again turned to Dr. Google to find that uterine polyps are often gray in color. So when I asked the nurse how much was removed, in my mind they were taking out each polyp and, I donβt know, putting them into a jar? Turns out that at least some of them work themselves out after the procedure. I continued to pass gray pieces for a few days.
There has also be
... keep reading on reddit β‘Iβve previously had filshie clips, an endometrial ablation, two other laps for endo, and laparoscopically removed gallbladder and appendix. My new surgeon says I will be off work for 4 weeks after surgery, but Iβve never been off for more than 1 week for any previous surgeries. Any clue why theyβre saying 4 weeks?
I literally canβt afford that because Iβm a hairdresser with my own salon business: if I donβt work, not only do I not get paid, but I accumulate debt. What should I do?
Back story: They discovered the polyp the beginning of the year. I was referred to my OBGYN and saw her in February. At that point she felt surgery wasn't necessary because of the size of it and I didn't want surgery because I had just started a new job and didn't want to miss a bunch of work. But she told me to discuss with my husband how far we wanted to go with testing so we could see why I wasn't getting pregnant. We started by checking my progesterone that next cycle. I ended up finding out I was pregnant 10 days after that. That pregnancy was ectopic and my fallopian tube ruptured. At my follow up appointment with her she said to wait to try for one full cycle and if I didn't conceive in 6 months to come back and she would check my remaining tube. This would have been my 6 month mark. In September, my period arrived 6 days late and didn't stop. After 2 weeks I called the office and they did a pregnancy test and put me on Provera. It still didn't stop so she ordered an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed the polyp had gotten a little bigger. At that point she felt that the polyp would make it difficult to achieve a pregnancy. So she wanted to remove it.
The procedure: I work at the hospital, so I decided to just go ahead and work last night so I could just go downstairs in the morning and get it done. I had all my labs last Friday and was covid tested on Monday. Everything came back normal. I had to stop eating or drinking after midnight last night and had to be downstairs at 6:30 to get prepped. I went to registration, checked in, they came and got me, weighed me, I changed into my gown and gave myself a CHG bath. The nurses came in and started my IV and did my admission questions. They also put a scopalamine patch behind my ear bc they said it can help with the nausea that comes with GYN surgeries. A few minutes later, the anesthesiologist came in, asked if I had any questions, asked me a few questions, told me the anesthesia would be similar to last time, and left. My OB came in and asked my husband and I if we had any questions. She explained the procedure and said this one was going to be a lot less traumatic than the last one. I asked her if she was going to check my tube and she said not in this surgery but we can do an HSG and try and get it in by the end of the year so she texted her nurse to start working on it. She said that my cycles should go back to normal on their own but if not, we can try birth control for a month or two to get them
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hi all, 2 days out of polypectomy/septoplasty/sinus surgery. Doctor cut an artery during surgery, I bled out for an hour while they were trying to figure out what was wrong. Eventually took me back into operation and cauterized everything.
First night I slept for like 2 2 hour periods and woke up yesterday feeling pretty good. Started moving around too much last night and started bleeding and shaking a lot. This morning I woke up feeling like death. I got some food and water in me but I still feel like total shit. Anyone have similar experience and can tell me when I will start feeling better?
Also still haven't been able to shit and the nasal rinses feel like they make things worse.
32/F - 215lbs, adderall 12.5mg x2 day (none since yesterday at 1500), long history of ovarian cysts and painful mensuration, periods began around 7/8 years old, bilateral salpingectomy completed in 2019, all pregnancy tests have been negative.
Back story: on 25 October, I went to the ER for extreme pelvic pain and bright red blood in my underwear. My period had ended on 15 October, was a little more painful than normal (I chalked it up to getting over a respiratory infection following my flu shot). From 25th on, I have had bleeding - some spotting, some heavier flow, and mostly annoying. Iβve had two periods this November - my most recent one ended yesterday (heavier bleeding than normal, clots the size of a ping pong ball almost every time I changed my tampon - every 3 hours).
I had a hysteroscopic polypectomy with D&C this morning. He used the saline method and filled my uterus up with saline. Doctor removed my mass without incident and I came home.
Iβve gone through about 3 pads since then (11am ish is when I got home, itβs now almost 1430). I also pass larger clots (bigger than normal) when I get up to pee. I feel a rush of blood, then about 5 minutes later, I have to use the restroom and thatβs when the clots plop into the toilet.
I expected some discharge since he did use saline, and I expected some blood because well - there was a polyp removed and a D&C happened.
Is this normal? Do I need to call my doctor? This is all knew (and scary) to me.
Hi. Iβm scheduled for a polypectomy next week and wondering if anyone has gone through the procedure? They discovered multiple small polyps in my uterus (they donβt know how many or how big/small) and my OB recommended removal. Would appreciate any insight into this! How long your procedure took, recovery time, if polyps came back, etc
Hello!
So, this community has been amazingly supportive. Anyone had to have a polypectomy before their FET? We had a mock done before our FET, expecting no problems, but I have some small polyps that my RE wants removed before we try our FET. RE said that the polyps were really small and might not even be a problem, but he doesn't want to risk it. Did anyone else have to have a polypectomy? Was it a difficult recovery? I've read that it can take up to 2 weeks to recover. I had pretty bad OHSS after my last egg retrieval; I would really not want to experience that again if possible. I'm just hoping to hear some experiences from others since I've never had this procedure before. Thanks for any info you can give me!!
If so how much did you pay? My polyps have grown massively so i need surgery again and I can't wait as long as my local hospital is taking. So I'm trying to find out an idea of cost to compare to what I sm being offered
Kind of specific, but Iβm hoping to hear from people who have undergone general anesthesia for a polypectomy while being overweight. We lost our baby at 24 weeks last June and Iβm quite anxious about going under full anesthesia. We really want to be able to have another child, but Iβm so afraid of being put under and dying and leaving my husband alone.
I posted here a few days after surgery already feeling better. Now, a month after surgery I can say that my upwards trajectory continued and I feel FANTASTIC. Going through with surgery was one of the best decisions of my young life.
During my 5 hour surgery, my doctor removed 1 full measuring cup of inflamed tissue from my nose, along with mucus concretions and other unpleasantries. I was very uncomfortable before surgery and unable to breathe through my nose at all, but I never imagined just what was going on up there. I had held out hope that my problem would resolve itself in time, but the findings of the surgery made it abundantly clear that nothing would have improved without medical help. I am so glad that I didn't hold out much longer as the quality of my life was suffering so much. I can breathe through my nose, my smell is back, and I have so much more energy now that I am not bogged down by intense nasal congestion and constant runny nose.
I am spending my days doing budesonide nasal flushes to keep the polyps from coming back. Here's to starting a new year with a working nose! I love life again! I am happy to answer any questions about my pre-op or post-op experiences.
So I had a polypectomy 5 days ago. I haven't been in too much pain. I still have low key cramping, but also, bright red bleeding. Is this normal on day 5? The amount is around, 3-5 tablespoons per day. It's consistently around the same amount, not stopping. This has been going on since day 2, when I stopped bleeding after the procedure all day of day 2, then it came that night and just hang stopped. Any thoughts?
Has anyone had a successful IUI after hysteroscopy and/or polypectomy surgery?
I had my surgery last week on CD 15. My doc said we could start IUI on my next cycle if we wanted but Iβm wondering if thatβs a good idea? Has anyone gotten pregnant this soon after surgery?
Side question: did hysteroscopy delay your cycle at all or was it still the same length (for those of you with regular cycles)?
I had a hysteroscopy and polypectomy 8 days ago. At the time I was on my period so was bleeding still a few days after, and now Iβm still spotting a small amount.
Whatβs concerning me more though is the pain. Iβm having cramping and feel constantly bloated, but I didnβt start to feel this until 4 days after the surgery.
I was under general anaesthetic throughout so at first thought maybe that had just messed with my digestive system but Iβm pretty sure thatβs not it.
I have my follow-up in a week and just wondered if anyone else experienced pain after a week later. The pain is fairly dull and moves around my pelvis - occasionally it feels a little sharper depending on how Iβm sitting. Itβs not so bad I feel the need to take pain medication - itβs more uncomfortable.
My doctor really didnβt tell me what to expect after so I donβt know if what Iβm going through is normal or not.
Hello! Iβd really appreciate any opinions on this:
Iβm scheduled for these tomorrow. Iβve been told there will be no anaesthetic or sedation but to take two Advil an hour beforehand. Looking up experiences here on Reddit of these procedures, it seems unusual to have no local, general, pain medication, sedation, etc.
The surgeon, whom I very much like, publishes academically on minimally-invasive procedures. Heβs well-respected and very nice, but no local or anything seems odd. Any thoughts?
They were initially scheduled separately but he decided to do the two procedures together with different equipment after reviewing my sono and ultrasounds at that first biopsy appt. The change meant he told me again no anaesthetic or sedation and to just take the Advil so I donβt think Iβve misunderstood something.
Edited for clarity.
On Tuesday I had a hysteroscoptic polypectomy with D&C, under general anesthetic, to remove three large, symptomatic (constantly bleeding) uterine polyps (all at least 1.5 cm, two wide-based). My Obgyn and discharge papers and most of the internet said I could expect some cramping like a period, but be back to normal activities the next day, but my abdomen is still very tender. It is not what I would describe as crampy or a dull ache - it's more just a constant ouch. I don't think it's an infection as there is no fever, discharge is just the mild bleeding I was warned about, etc. but I'm just wondering if the "slight discomfort" I was told to expect is an understatment? I am a teacher and not sure I can be back on my feet all day Monday, carrying materials from room to room. PS my endometrial biopsy and SIS were both FINE and barely uncomfortable at all, and THOSE seem to be the ones people describe as barbaric, so I am just...confused...Thanks in advance
Hi all! I'm a longtime reader and lurker here but just wanted to share my experience in removing 2 polyps found in my uterus.
A bit of a backstory, my husband and I were trying for about 6 months before we saw an RE. My AMH was pretty low for my age at 1.62 and we had a slight MFI from his SA(low morphology at 28%) but otherwise everything was fine! We went through 2 rounds of medicated IUI and Clomid (with 3-4 mature follicles each time) but no luck there. Then I had a saline sonogram/ultrasound done in preparation for IVF and the RE found a polyp in my uterus - so we scheduled the operative hysteroscopy to remove it! I had this done at Kaiser in Santa Clara, CA.
It was scheduled on Day 7 of my cycle so I didn't have to take any birth control pills. I was given some misoprostol tablets to insert vaginally at 9pm the night before and doxycycline (antibiotic) to reduce infection so I started to take that before the surgery.
I was also told to not eat any solid foods for 8 hours before and also stop drinking water and clear juices 2 hours before coming in at 1:45pm for my procedure. I woke up in the morning around 9am and chugged some water and lemonade every 30 minutes or so until I couldn't drink any more liquids at 11:45am. I also took a shower in the morning to make sure I was clean and comfortable when going into the hospital.
The nurses were all super nice, made small conversation, and helped me put on the IV on my arm(this was my first time having an IV). I was given sedation to make me feel relaxed and sleepy, but I didn't fall asleep surprisingly. I was awake for the entire procedure and it was not painful. I was also given some numbing medicine and could not feel anything below my waist. I think I was also given some medicine for potential nausea via the IV.
Procedure took about 20-30 minutes and the RE actually found not just 1(from saline sonogram) but 2 polyps when she went inside my uterus with a small camera. They will send the polyps to pathology for testing to see if it's cancerous. They also showed me before and after photos of how she had cleaned up the polyps from my uterus. It looked pretty cool! I was given some time in the recovery room for about 30 minutes or so. Nurse gave me some mesh underwear and a pad to wear since there would be bleeding for about a week after during recovery. She also gave me water and crackers to munch on as I was pretty thirsty and hungry.
Afterwards, I went home and ate some porridge(had it cooking in

After multiple miscarriages, I went in for a hysteroscopy + polypectomy and when I woke up the doc informed me my lining was thick, so he reduced it down.
I was not aware a d&c might be part of the procedure and now Iβm worried about the scarring risk impacting fertility.
I have heard scarring after d&c is supposed to be rare, but when I try to search for stats some studies seems to suggest otherwise.
I haven't seen many posts about hysteroscopy or polypectomy procedures so I thought I would share my experience! I know many of you need or have gotten an HSG (which is next on my list if this does not work), but from what I have read uterine polyps can be pretty common and can play a role in infertility (which is possibly the case for me). Anyway, sorry for the length, I tried to keep it short but detailed!

Due to the COVID-19 stuff, my procedure was postponed for 5-6 weeks, and I opted to do it awake as an in-office procedure, whereas originally I had scheduled in the operating room with full anesthesia. I had a pre-op appointment with my OBGYN the Friday before (who would also be performing the surgery), and she explained the procedure and prescribed some meds for me to take before.
On Monday, I took a pain pill (Norco/hydrocodone) an hour before, and a Xanax when I got to the office. I had no other prep really other than to leave a urine sample when I got there (we also had to remain abstinent this cycle since it was scheduled for after I ovulated, ideally this is done prior to ovulation).
They allowed my husband to come with me and be in the room during the procedure (wearing a mask, of course), and for that I am thankful! He is a funny guy and helped comfort me and kept the mood light. We went back to the room which was bigger than a normal exam room with a really low table and a bunch of equipment. I got a shot of essentially a high dose of ibuprofen for inflammation in my hip and waited for the Dr.
The first thing she had to do was numb my cervix with local anesthetic, which was one of the things I was freaked out about most. I didn't look at the needles till afterward, but they are LONG and thicker than I thought they would be (she even switched them out for a smaller gauge needle too). They had to use a larger speculum to have better access, which was uncomfortable. The shots are not pleasant, it feels pinchy and burny like getting your gums numbed before dental work, but in your cervix. She probably did about 5 and I definitely felt 3 of them--doable, just not fun.
My husband and I waited in the room for 15 or so minutes while the anesthetic (and apparently the Xanax) kicked in, and I was feeling a little loopy. I thought I would be able to tell when my cervix was numb, but it didn't feel any different.
The Dr., nurse, and a surgical assistant came back in (all such nice and wonderful ladies, really helped put me at ease and we even
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hey guys! I just wanted to share my hysteroscopy experience that I had today. I've also had an HSG and a SGH done, I wanted to write about all three but this one was so long I'll just stick to this. My HSG and SGH both went smoothly with only some cramping and discomfort, so when I told my doctor I was afraid to have this procedure she said that it wouldn't be too different from the previous exams.
For the hysteroscopy I was told to take Provera for two weeks before the procedure, and Advil several times a day for two days before the procedure. The Provera DEFINITELY made me a little crazy - I had mood swings, was super tired, and had the worst cramps of my life while on my period (they didn't even feel like cramps it was just sharp pain). I was not put under for this procedure, even though I've read about people getting put under. I was also given the option to be prescribed Ativan, which I didn't opt for but I did take half a Xanax before.
I checked in ($40 copay for this procedure) and they did my vitals in a normal exam room, then sent me to another floor where the procedure was taking place. The room was a little more scary looking to me, there were a lot of machines and noises going on. After getting undressed and sitting on the table, two doctors and a nurse came in. Not going to lie, I was crying and very anxious, so they talked me through the procedure and told me that most of the pain felt would just be cramping, but if it ever did get too bad they would immediately stop and we would regroup.
They put the speculum in with a lidocaine gel instead of lubricant, then swabbed everything with a giant cotton swab (I really hate this every time I get an exam, it's the worst). Then they put a lidocaine gel on my cervix, let it sit for a minute or two, then started some local anesthetic injections. They had me cough on a countdown, then injected me when I coughed (I think so I would feel it less? It felt like a pinch but it wasn't too bad because it was quick). After all the shots were in they did some more gel I think, and then I laid there for maybe 5 minutes while they let everything work. Also as only one of the doctors was doing the shots, the other doctor talked to me the whole time to help me relax and focus on something else.
After 5 minutes they started trying to get the camera in. I say trying because my cervix was at a weird angle apparently, and also it was not dilated wide enough for them to fit it (the camera is 5.5mm, I was at 5mm), so

After 10 months TTC we discovered I had a large polyp in my uterus. Took a month off for the procedure to get it removed and now this month off for my body to heal.
Our RE is giving us the option of trying for a few months without any medication or IUIs since this physical blocker is now gone, or going right in to Letrozole / Femara and IUI. I am so torn on what to do and can't find much information on success rate after a polypectomy without any other intervention. We have no other diagnoses and tests for myself and DH have been 'normal' for us both.
Thank in advance for your words of wisdom and shared experiences!
Hi Everyone,
This morning I had a hysteroscopy and a polypectomy to remove a 1-2 cm polyp. I also have a subserosal fibroid just for extra info. When I was reading through my procedure notes they say on exam "mobile 8 week sized uterus, no masses appreciated". I don't know if my doctor will call me today or if I will just have to ask her at my follow up appointment in 2 weeks.
Has any one had this note or an 8 week sized uterus? What does it mean??? I didn't really get to talk to the dr after the procedure other than they removed the polyp and my lining looks good. I can post a more detailed experience in the comments but for now I'm fretting about the size of my uterus.
Thank you!
Anyone had a Polypectomy? When did your RE do it? Before stimming? During Egg Retrieval? Before Embryo Transfer?
BACKGROUND: I have a polyp sitting on the bottom of my uterus (inside the uterine cavity) and I have 2 REs (long story) that I go to. One would like to remove asap before I start to stim for IVF (he is local does my IUIs) and the other RE (CrossCountry RE) said he would remove the polyp during my egg retrieval
Local RE said the reason to do it before is that the uterus lining is thinner if you do it Day 6 of cycle and the polyp is easier to remove. He made an analogy of finding and picking up a golf ball in short grass vs long thick grass.
CrossCountry RE said his preference is bc "You will already be under and won't have to go under 2x."
Going under with Twilight anesthesia doesn't really bother me. I just want the polyp completely gone so it doesn't interfere with implantation or cause another MC (bc they think it could have caused my previous MC). I also have some fibroids so I hope they can remove those too. And some cysts on my ovaries - but those apparently can't be removed until I am ready to stop trying to conceive.
Have any of you had a polyp, fibroids, etc removed and if so when did your DR remove it? Do you know the reasoning behind the timing of the removal? Did you have a thin or thick uterine lining for it? Did it make a difference?
Hello I am new here. I am currently starting my first IVF cycle after three miscarriages. Today I got a very large polyp removed via hysteroscopy, it took up almost my whole uterus.
I am reaching out to see what others recovery was like after this procedure. I am told most women can take a Tylenol and be fine. I donβt know how thatβs possible. I am in excruciating pain 10 hours later. Luckily my doctor gave me pain medicine for today and tomorrow, but to give an idea, the pain medicine does not completely get rid of it. I am wondering if this is normal? I almost feel silly because the nurses make it seem like most women just handle recovery with simple Tylenol and here I am really struggling to get out of bed without having pain.
I would really like to hear from the community about their personal experiences rather than feeling bad/silly because Iβm in pain, I almost feel like I shouldnβt be so I guess this is a little bit of an emotional support thread as well.
Is it normal after cervical polypectomy to have some pains after lifting something heavier or walking longer or sometimes even laying in a featus position? I had my surgery mid November.
My husband and I have been trying since May 2019. We have only gotten pregnant once, which ended with my left tube rupturing due to it being ectopic. They discovered the polyp in January after me bleeding the entire month of December. I was referred to my OB for that and met her in February, at that point she wanted to just leave it since it was so small and she felt it likely wasn't causing any fertility issues but told me to go home and discuss with my husband how extensive we wanted to get with testing. I ended up getting pregnant that next month before we even started testing. At my post op follow up she said if we weren't successful after 6 months she wanted to do an HSG. The month before the 6 month mark my period started and didn't stop. About 3 weeks into it she had me get an ultrasound which showed that my polyp is 10mm and I have a probable subserosal fibroid. She said surgery was going to be my best option bc the polyp was likely preventing implantation. I'm scheduled for a hysteroscopy with D&C and possible polypectomy next Wednesday. Has anyone had a similar experience? Did the polypectomy help you conceive? How long was your recovery?
Hi, I recently had a hysteroscopy polypectomy two week ago for spotting and not being able to get pregnant. They found a polyp in my uterus that was 3cm.. after the surgery I was bleeding for 9 days and then my period came on as my app expected.. it was a light period and mine usual last for 6 days it went off but then I start spotting again a day later is it normal to bleed/spot for more than 2 weeks?
