A list of puns related to "Police Misconduct"
I believe this should apply to off duty cops as well. If the court awards 1 million for this lawsuit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mdd5JdVhVqg then payments start with that departments retirement fund and more funds pay up until the victim is made whole as decided by the court.
I believe reporting and retraining unprofessional colleagues will be more likely as they try to save the retirement funds from being hit with costs of restitution. Senior police staff will avoid hiring cops who lost money from the previous division's retirement fund. The fear of losing retirement money in court ordered payout will get Senior staff trying their hardest to limit repeat offenders from staying on the force.

Alternatives suggested by redditors. I think alt#1 is better than going after retirement funds
Alternative #5
TBD
Alternative #4
Instead of having a settlement come in a wipe out the pension for all the retired officers who havenβt havenβt been charged with any misconduct, the settlement comes from a government run insurance that police officers have to pay into in predictable amounts from their paycheck, with their premiums being based on individual and department risk. This protects low risk and retired individuals, at the expense of high risk officers, to the point where if they have enough complaints, they are forced out.
Alternative #3
Unions pay into insurance for police misconduct. Risk assessment is for the whole department. If there is a payout the premium only goes up for that officer. A national insurance means any prospective department can see the premium for hiring an officer. A low premium officer becomes prized and sought after
Alternative #2
Cops carry malpractice insurance and once used up to pay for a settlement they are no longer able to work because it costs to much to insure them
Alternative #1
When the city/locale/state/municipality comes to an agreement on a lawsuit. Get police unions to pay restitutions and settlements and spread the cost to all police unions in the country until victims are made whole

How a fund works

>I'll throw in just a technical thought here, as a former pension plan/actuarial analyst. When a retirement fund experiences an unexpected loss (like the payout of an excessive force claim), then the fund loses money, but not the obligation to pay those benefits. This means that the money still has to be replaced from somewh
I figured it could be handy to have both sides of this argument memorialized into one post. I will edit in the highest voted comments for both sides of the argument.

Iβll post my thoughts on the comments to maintain the communal effort of this post.
Im writing a paper about the show and Iβm going through the series to analyze some episodes/seasons but I canβt watch the entire 23 seasons.
Is there any seasons or episodes you think are best to look at? I will definitely be looking at amaros seasons since he had quite the bit of controversy but as for the earlier seasons I canβt quite recall specific moments.
Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated!!

#Medical treatment in prisons
Second Circuit Appeals Court Judge Michael Pak, a Trump appointee, wrote a majority opinion dismissing a New York prisonerβs lawsuit over inadequate medical treatment. Devin Darby, imprisoned on Rikerβs Island, filed 19 sick call requests and four grievance complaints about painful gum inflammation. Two Rikerβs Island dentists saw Darby and failed to treat his condition. Over a year later, Darby was transferred to another facility where a specialist correctly diagnosed and treated a large gum abscess.
Darby filed suit against unspecified prison officials and the two dentists, alleging they βacted with deliberate indifference to serious medical needs.β However, Pak and fellow judge JosΓ© Cabranes (Clinton appointee) ruled that Darby only demonstrated a βdifference of opinionβ with the dentists. Further, they found that Darby must name the Rikerβs officials who received his sick call requestsβsomething he is not able to do without discovery, which both the lower court and appellate court did not allow.
Judge Susan Carney, an Obama appointee, dissented (pdf):
>In my view, Darbyβs complaint states a claim against the Doe Defendants. His allegations evince a serious, escalating, and urgent medical need that he brought to the attention of the Doe Defendants according to the prisonβs prescribed procedures, but about which they took no action for months...It may be that discovery would reveal that Darbyβs sick calls were responded toβthe record does not tell us, but perhaps the needed referral was arranged, but delayed, as the district court speculated. But that speculation is an inference drawn against Darby, and, like the other inferences on which the Majority relies, we are not permitted to rely on it at this stage of the proceedings...
>I am concerned that the Majorityβs decision aff
