A list of puns related to "Phototoxicity"
How diligently should I try to avoid natural fragrant oils such as limonene, citrus peel oils, etc.? I often come across otherwise good formulas that seem to be ruined by the adding of natural fragrances. Do fragrant citrus oils actually cause increased photosensitivity/ sun damage? I don't want to be purchasing products that could be damaging my skin in the long term.
I am having a hard time finding a solid fragrance-free moisturizer, as well as a Vitamin C serum minus natural fragrances. Any insight and/ or product suggestions would be appreciated!
I've been meaning to use citrus essential oils and peels into my soap. But upon researching about citrus oils, I've also read that they are can be phototoxic when applied to the skin and exposed to the sun. I didn't think that it will become an issue with soaps as lye would probably neutralize any acid or substance that might cause this and you wash soap off your skin.
But recently, I've found a local soap seller that markets this soap as skin brightening as the result of the calamondin extracts and peels that she used. So it got me wondering, if her soap is really what she claims it to be, if it truly brightens your skin tone, are there still substances that might have survived the saponification and cause phototoxicity? From the peels maybe?
Does anyone know of a cell line that has a particularly high resistance to phototoxicity that would be usable in live-cell microscopy? This can be any adherent cell line that comes from a bird or mammal. Ideally it would be easily transfected, but difficult in that step can be overcome.
I tried researching this, but since most live-cell microscopy experiments tend to involve observing something in the cells themselves, ideal characteristics for that phenomenon is what determines the cell line used, rather than solely "hardiness" in a live-cell microscopy environment.
We already use HELA cells, but they aren't cutting it for long timelapses. I thought a melanoma cell line might work (having a built in pigment to help resist light), but apparently they are susceptible to toxicity by blue light.

Hey AB! Please help me out here, I got the Shara Shara Honey and Berry Bombs and they both have grapefruit extracts. In addition to the grapefruit the Berry Bomb has Orange peel oil and citrus extract, Isn't that a lot of citrus oils/stuff especially since those are phototoxic and irritants to the skin?
I recently read the instructions of doxycycline tablets and they mentioned that when you take those, you have to avoid direct sunlight as doxycycline increases sensitivity to UV light. I wondered why and the only explanation I could find is that it causes a phototoxic reaction. However, I could not find how exactly the chemical interacts with the normal UV reaction. Could anyone explain how this process works?
Photoconversion of fluorescent proteins by blue and complementary near-infrared light, termed primed conversion (PC), is a mechanism recently discovered for Dendra2. We demonstrate that controlling the conformation of arginine at residue 66 by threonine at residue 69 of fluorescent proteins from Anthozoan families (Dendra2, mMaple, Eos, mKikGR, pcDronpa protein families) represents a general route to facilitate PC. Mutations of alanine 159 or serine 173, which are known to influence chromophore flexibility and allow for reversible photoswitching, prevent PC. In addition, we report enhanced photoconversion for pcDronpa variants with asparagine 116. We demonstrate live-cell single-molecule imaging with reduced phototoxicity using PC and record trajectories of RNA polymerase in Escherichia coli cells.
Hello! I want to make my own dry shampoo, and for the essential oil I'd love to use some orange oil I have, but I have read it can be phototoxic. It looks like the orange oil I have is sweet orange (citrus sinensis), so from what I read it should be fine anyway, but I wanted to ask.
Most info I've seen about phototoxic essential oils only talks about applying them directly to your skin, could they also have an effect when used on your hair (aside from your scalp, obviously)?
I've currently got into the idea of making my own perfume. I love lemony, citrus scents but wouldn't want to put citrus fruit essential oils in a perfume because of the phototoxicity. What are safe alternatives to use that would still give a citrusy scent?
Actually a couple days ago. I guess you can figure it out from the title.
Toward the end of yesterday I noticed I had this pretty large, dumb-looking blotchy burn on my chest/neck. This morning I woke up and it was worse. I thought, "That's so weird, I was out in the sun on Wednesday, but the shape of this sunburn really doesn't make any sense."
Anyway, then I remembered I'd used a bergamot oil/citrus oil blend as perfume the other day. Went to read the label. The label says not to put it on your skin and that it "reacts strongly to sunlight and other sources of ultraviolet light."
I looked this up online and found some distressing images of second and third-degree burns caused by this same kind of thing. Luckily mine is only first-degree. So it'll just hurt and look weird for a few weeks, nothing serious.
TL;DR: Citrus oils + sunlight = burns. Also, read the damn label before you put chemicals on yourself.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
The nurse asked the rabbit, βwhat is your blood type?β
βI am probably a type Oβ said the rabbit.
The doctor says it terminal.
Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB
Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"
I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual
So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes
r/unclejokes for dirty jokes
r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC
r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes

We told her she can lean on us for support. Although, we are going to have to change her driver's license, her height is going down by a foot. I don't want to go too far out on a limb here but it better not be a hack job.
Ants donβt even have the concept fathers, let alone a good dad joke. Keep r/ants out of my r/dadjokes.
But no, seriously. I understand rule 7 is great to have intelligent discussion, but sometimes it feels like 1 in 10 posts here is someone getting upset about the jokes on this sub. Let the mods deal with it, they regulate the sub.

I'm surprised it hasn't decade.
