METHOD OF FORMING AN HERMETIC SEAL ON ELECTRONIC AND OPTOELECTRONIC PACKAGES Publication number: 20210389532
Abstract: A method for forming hermetic seals between the cap and sub-mount for electronic and optoelectronic packages includes the formation of metal mounds on the sealing surfaces. Metal mounds, as precursors to a metal hermetic seal between the cap and sub-mount of a sub-mount assembly, facilitates the evacuation and purging of the volume created within cap and sub-mount assemblies prior to formation of the hermetic seal. The method is applied to discrete cap and sub-mount assemblies and also at the wafer level on singulated and non-singulated cap and sub-mount wafers. The method that includes the formation of the hermetic seal provides an inert environment for a plurality of electrical, optoelectrical, and optical die that are attached within an enclosed volume of the sub-mount assembly.

My comment: You need hermetic sealing for mechanical protection, thermal dissipation, prevent intrusion for moisture particles, protect against electrical fields, .... You need it in environments like Telekom (5G), Automobiles, Robotics, sensing, high tech applications, etc. POET is doing this at WAFER LEVEL. This is genius.

I have been granted admission to MS in Electrical Engineering (specialising in Nano and Optoelectronics) at University of Stuttgart and wanted to know more about the course and the faculty.
How good is the university, how good is the teaching and professors and most importantly how good is the research work that is done.
Are there any practical or lab classes/subjects in the curriculum?
Do you get to persue your own research as a student?
Are you satisfied with the course and college overall?
Also I have applied for the MS in Microsystems Engineering at University if Freiburg. Which among these two would you suggest?
Thanks a lot for the help!
Hey there ladies and gents, I like to shop seeing for value plays in the market and came across this company AAOI Applied Optoelectronics Inc.
What do they do? Applied Optoelectronics, Inc.Β designs, manufactures, and sells various fiber-optic networking products worldwide. It offers optical modules, lasers, subassemblies, transmitters and transceivers, and turn-key equipment, as well as headend, node, and distribution equipment.
AAOI is currently trading at $7.22 with a market cap of $193 million dollars. Revenue on this company is sitting at $243 million in the last 12 months. Assets are sitting at 480 million dollars and liabilities are sitting at 203 million dollars. Current assets are sitting at 209 million and current liabilities sitting at 103 million giving it a current ratio of about 2 which is pretty solid and no chance of bankruptcy in the next two years. If you notice here, the book value is sitting at approximately 280 million dollars which is about 40% above its current trading price. Meaning, if AAOI liquidated everything today it would put them at a price of approximately $10.10 per share.
What's the catch here? Earnings is coming up on August 5th, which could tell a different story and make it decrease it's book value. However I don't see the earnings being so drastic to bring the current valuation down much. They are expected to have a revenue of $54 million and a $0.17 per share loss this quarter. If they manage to beat these numbers then I would expect to see quite a significant increase in share price, especially considering it being a very small cap stock(good candidates for blast off). Finally, do your own due diligence before trading. Have a great day.

As the title states, my end goal is to work in some sort of photonics-based engineering, ideally with lasers and optics. I am very passionate about this area of work.
I would like to know how I could use my personal time to make myself more employable. Specifically, are there any simulation software or tools that those in the industry would value knowledge of? (For example, if there are simulation tools or software that I could learn and create a project for myself, this would be ideal.) I have done a considerable amount of scientific programming and basic gaussian beam simulations in MATLAB and Python, so I am looking for something more comprehensiveβcloser to a tool such as COMSOL.
Any help from those knowledgeable in this area would be truly appreciated.
