A list of puns related to "Optimising"
Hello all,
For a seminar, that is comming up for me, I was hoping to get some of your puns that you might have thought about, or made one along the way, regarding optimisation/ML.
(I know I could google, but was just curious if someone had any?)
I might totally be wrong. I want to open with that. But this appears right to me, mathematically and also intuitively. But someone better at maths than me is free to correct me or question what I have done!
So, I wanted to see what the optimal strategy for gamblers lure in maps is. For those not aware, when you win a chest in a treasure map, you can gamble the chest to win another. You can do this (gambling all chests in the process) a maximum of five times.
You gamble via a high-low game, using numbers 1 thru 9. The first gamble, a random number is revealed, and you must guess higher or low. Subsequent gambles use the card revealed in the last round. If a tie occurs, a new card is drawn, and you must guess high or low on it, as the first gamble.
Odds when card is unknown (first roll + tiebreaker)
So, these are the odds on the first role, and tiebreaker. To give an example of how this is calculated:
Card drawn is 3. 6/9 chance for success, 2/9 chance for failure, 1/9 chance for tiebreaker (78% chance of winning), maths out to 75% chance of success.
Iterative calculation was required as any individual chance of success per card, required for calculation of overall success rate, is also required to calculate overall success rate. The success rate of the first roll, and tiebreakers, is 78%, meaning you should always do the first roll to maximise number of chests earned.
After this, you will know what card you're using to gamble, since the drawn card becomes the new start card. Using this, I calculated the expected value of gambling your chests given what the revealed card is.
These are the 5 gambles possible. The column labels, such as 'EV gamble 4', mean, what is the expected value when the revealed card is 4. As you can see, the first roll is always giving more on average, making it worth to do.
Essentially, TLDR:
Roll 1: Always.
Roll 2: If last card was 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, or 9.
Roll 3: If last card was 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, or 9.
Roll 4: If last card was 1, 2, 8, or 9.
Roll 5: If last card was 1,2, 8, or 9.
What does this mean?
It means that if you follow the above rules, you will get the most number of chests on average. Obviously thi

Much of the advice given around MDMA seems to favour redosing ~0.5x the initial dose 90 minutes after ingestion. This seems to be a variant on the recommendation given in PiHKAL to take a smaller supplementary dose (e.g. 40mg following an initial 120mg) at the 90 minute mark, where it is suggested that this extends the positive effects by roughly an hour. As far as I can tell, this approach is the result of trial and error. I've struggled to find any more concrete research into an optimal dosing regimen for recreational effects (for, I suppose, obvious reasons).
Anecdotally, it's also pretty common for recreational users to redose arbitrarily to chase the high. This most likely leads to the ingestion of far more substance than is necessary to achieve the desired positive effects, whilst greatly increasing the risk of long term harm and worsening the negative side effects.
I'm curious about alternative dosing strategies. In particular, I wonder if r/AskDrugNerds might be able to offer some insight on whether a strategy I have in mind makes sense.
To start, I want to define the goals a little better: to me, an optimal regimen as one that maximises (i) positive subjective effects and (ii) duration of positive effects and minimises (iii) negative subjective effects (including comedown) and (iv) long term harm (due to neurotoxicity).
With this in mind, I am curious about the effects of dividing up the total amount administered under the PiHKAL regimen into a larger number of equally sized small doses, spaced over some period of time. The intention here is to more gradually reach peak effects whilst also slowing the rate at which effects decay, without needing to consume more substance. In particular, this approach should essentially allow a trade-off between peak intensity and effect duration β it might be preferable in certain contexts, for example, to experience a subtler peak for a longer time. My understanding of the pharmacodynamics of MDMA is too limited to meaningfully reason about how this might behave in the body, so I hope someone might be able to shed some light here.
To give a concrete example, imagine someone intends to ingest a total of 180mg over the course of a night. Here are a few potential dosing strategies:

Does the camera get optimised too after you use for a couple of months because of the AI engine in the SD 888 chip? I was comparing the photos from mine with a OP7 Pro of one of my friend's, and the OP7 Pro was way better than mine. Just curious if it will get better than this. Not saying the photos were bad, but they still lack a lot.
What would be the best way to optimise this subclass? Itβs one of my favourites thematically but it isnβt very powerful compared to other druids(eg. Circle of the moon). There can be a bit of multiclassing but no more than, say, 9 levels.
My current build is a level 3 Druid 2/ Hexblade 1 multiclass. Using a quarterstaff with Hexbladeβs curse, hex, symbiotic entity and halo of spores factored in, this 1d8+2d6+2d4+5(average 21.5)
Thanks!

Edit2: thanks to all of you for your help! This is my first post so Iβm quite surprised that it has breached 50 upvotes. Currently it seems there are two good ways to make a spore Druid: Using Symbiotic entity as a massive meat shield while summoning as a full Druid, or putting a few levels into beast barbarian for more attacks and rage. Again, Thanks!
Iβm currently trying to set up my army of 9 max level alts for the Shadowlands mission table. Iβve already cycled through the covenants so I have 3-k Anima on all of them, but Iβm wondering what to focus on with regards to missions. What campaign level should I aim for with regards to mission campaign, covenant campaign and Korthia campaign? Anything in particular I should aim for?
Itβs not game breaking but it is certainly becoming more noticeable as to how audio seems to fluctuate in its consistency. Certain suppressed shots hundreds and hundreds of meters away sound like they are only 80m from you (kinda like that key audio glitch they had prior to wipe)
Certain sounds seem to drop off abruptly once they reach a certain radius from you too. Itβs very bizarre and it seems to have to gotten worse since I started playing back in March.
I want to avoid a situation where my heirs are hit with a six figure IHT bill from my ISA when I pass away. Iβm aware that itβs possible to pass on oneβs ISA to their surviving spouse free of IHT, but imo that only kicks the IHT can down the road. Wondering how other folks with large ISAs have dealt with this challenge.

Hi All,
I'm seeing a strange behaviour, where optimising videos cause a CPU spike.
I have a queue of videos waiting to be optimised, the first two videos in the queue optimises fine, CPU stays between 5%-8%. When the third video starts to get optimised, the CPU will spike to 100%. If I cancel the job, the CPU remains at 100%. The only way I can get it to reset back to normal is by killing the Plex Transcoder job - twice, as it reloads or to restart Plex altogether.
I'm running Intel i7-7700, with 16GB of RAM on Windows 10 Pro. This processor has quick-sync, so I have hardware (GPU) acceleration enabled.
I know thumbnail generation uses a lot of CPU, I have this scheduled as a task at 2AM.
I also checked the videos and can confirm thumbnails are not being generated after a conversion, so I believe this is not the issue.

Once a video has been optimised and moves onto the next one in the queue, the CPU spikes with the conversion speed dropping significantly.

Has anyone experienced this or have an idea on why Plex Transcoder is eating up my CPU resources?
I have recently received the Chilipad Ooler WE/Queen in an attempt to sleep better as I get too hot to sleep well and have been a bit disappointed with its performance and am looking on advice on utilising it better and deciding whether or not to keep it.
For context, I sleep upstairs in a 2 storey townhouse and find that without any attempt to lower temperature, I struggle to sleep in Summer (current season for me in Australia) when the temp is around 14c or higher at night. If it is cold in the winter, I'm happy with adding a blanket to sleeping or using a thicker doona, so there's no need to use the Ooler or a heater to warm me up. I also don't have an Oura ring to get lots of sleep data, but I do have a Garmin 945 smartwatch that can track sleeping + I can self assess how comfortable I am when sleeping and how much interruption I got in the night that kept me awake.
From my research, it seems that the performance of the Ooler is tied somewhat to ambient temperature in the room, so when it's hot I need something more than just the Ooler to operate and if it's not hot, I may not need the Ooler at all.
Keeping the door closed without a fan or aircon on doesn't help as the Ooler heats up the room and I don't want to open doors as I want to minimise light in my room. Therefore, I imagine that if I am to use the Ooler on hot nights, I need the fan and/or aircon on too. I recently got roller shutters installed outside the window in my bedroom, which should help with temps and darkness in the morning, but it's still hot in the room without additional help.
I still have a few weeks to decide whether or not I return the Ooler and am seeking out advice on how to keep the ambient temperature cooler in the room and/or optimise the performance of the Ooler. I have read a post on reddit discussing removing padding in the pad to improve the performance of the Ooler, but I don't want to do this unless I commit to keeping it post the free return date.
There are a few upcoming very hot nights where I will test using the Ooler + aircon on 1 day and maybe just aircon on another day to see how sleeping goes. If just the aircon does the trick, even if at a higher fan strength than if I was combining it with the Ooler, I'd probably

Hey All,
So my current character is a Draconic Sorcerer (playing it as something of a blaster), just turned lvl 8. Looking at my spell list I'm not sure it's all too optimized. My party is made up of myself, a Paladin, a Barbarian, and a Cleric (although she might be changing to a wizard soon).
These are my spells sofar, just wondering if you would have different choices. I was thinking of maybe taking hypnotic pattern as a battlefield control spell, but no clue what to drop.

Hi there, so I am now ~200 hours in, unlocked all but white science and build up a quite big LTN City Block Factory. All is going well from a perspective of progress.
What is not so going well are FPS / UPS. I use a MacBook 16β from 2019 without additional graphics chip. The game is now consistently dropping to ~15 FPS and ~30 UPS and I started questioning where this will lead to and if I will be able to finish seablock.
I did complete a K2/SE run but I think seablock is more difficult for the CPU because all the fluid handling?? Do you have and ideas what can be done?
Does it make sense to just go for an AWS server and offload the hosting there? Or will this not save anything because the whole simulation is also done locally? Any help appreciated :)
Hi everyone! New Stardew player here, but long-time optimisation geek. I've just gotten to the Greenhouse part of the game, and it seriously triggered that geekery.
I've seen a few discussions around optimising the profitability of the Greenhouse, but a lot of the analysis people have done focuses only on a single constraint - usually the space available in the Greenhouse. In reality, we are likely to have a lot more constraints than this in play - how many kegs, jars, and casks we have, and how much time we want to spend, and some of the existing answers, particularly promoting blueberries, simply assume all these other resources are unlimited.
Having encountered Operations Research and formal optimisation methods, it occurred to me that this is a classic "product mix" problem with multiple constraints. I decided to write up a simulation of this in MiniZinc, and have it tell me the optimal mix of crops in any given situation.
The results are as follows:
There are a few somewhat game-breaking crops that are acquired via non-conventional means. If you have Ancient Fruit, Starfruit, or Pineapples, you should make wine with them in that order, and age the most valuable wine you have. Once your ability to make wine is saturated, you should grow Sweet Gem Berries if you have them, to sell raw.
Ignoring those crops, and going only for more "normal" options, we have some interesting rules of thumb:
If anyone wants to play with the mode
... keep reading on reddit β‘Hi all! I'm quite new to Instagram my account's been up and running for about 3 months now. I recently made the switch to a professional account so I could view IG Analytics.
I've been reviewing the performance of my hashtags it's a little bewildering - sometimes thousands of impressions, sometimes single digits - all for tags specific to my niche.
I've been trying a ladder strategy using avg. number of likes, but it's hard to gauge. I have a pool of about 60 niche-specific tags, and use about 20 per post.
Is there something I'm missing? Should I try a different sort of ladder strategy - DAPC instead of likes, maybe? Are there other factors for hashtag reach I'm not understanding?
Thabkyou got any advice you can give.
Hi all!
I've been running my account for a few months now, but I'm really struggling to generate impressions with hashtags.
I've curated a list of hashtags relevant to my niche (around 60), which I try to rotate through, using 20-30 hashtags a post. I use a selection of high, medium and low DAPC tags (relative to my niche size), and yet their performance varies wildly per post - sometimes thousands of impressions, sometimes single-digit!
There must be something I'm missing. Is it that DAPC is a poor measure of hashtag performance and I should be looking at average Likes instead? I'm using Hashtagstack to manage my collection.
What's my best strategy for hashtags? What really is the golden number for maximising reach- there's so much contradictory information!
My game's starting to chug a little, and having read through a lot of threads on here I've made most of the low-hanging changes to bring it back to 60 UPS with some substantial successes. I was, however, wondering about how best to handle dormant sub-factories.
I have made some sub-factories specifically for things like belts, inserters, pipes and things that I only really need during factory expansion, and so these can sit dormant for long periods of time with their output chests all full waiting for the next big project. I don't know though if their output tries to get into the chests every tick though - and if so would it be better to cut the power to those subfactories?
TLDR: is it better to:
Hi everyone,
I have a few different brokerage accounts and currently just manage my holdings on a spreadsheet to stay on top of it. I also was looking to potentially go cross-asset class and add a small amount of crypto to the mix.
I tend to use just basic portfolio theory to optimise my holdings and their sizes.
Has anyone used a tool or product that lets you do this in one place? Or at least add crypto to your exposure while optimising the holding relative to my stocks etc?
Thank you!
