Some dude was yelling at me from his car saying I shouldn't be going northward on that. I could take the footpath, but then that puts pedestrians in a bit more danger.
Is there a better way?
Expanding Northwards
Based on previous attempts the North was uncivilized, but there were current attempts to build trade settlements and scout Northwards. Crimea in concurrence with its agreement with Riga would help build trade ports in several regions across the Dnieper, and would go further with three extra trade settlements, to bring its control of the river to four in total
Oleshky was the first and current trade settlement near what would become Kherson and the opening of the Dnieper river. Further settlements would follow the Oleshky model and add a small fort for yearlong occupation alongside defenses to keep raiders away or at least at bay until the local could assemble alongside defensive positions.
Locations:
The first would be just north of Crimean influence and near modern day Zaporizhzhia on Khortytsia Island. Khortytsia was known for a Cossack settlement that would appear later in the 1500s, but currently, would be unoccupied by centralized forces. Such a settlement would be created to ensure that horses could easily get on or off the island, a bridge was the most obvious solution
The second would be further north along the Dnieper in modern day Dnipro. Dnipro would eventually become a Cossack settlement with Crimean influence in early-mid 1500s, but currently, was unoccupied and would be until roughly 1524, when a small village/settlement began to appear. Crimea will build its expanded settlement on the location of the rapids and just before the Dnieper branched southwards and connected with the Samara River. This would be roughly in either modern Dnipro or across the river where Kodak Fortress was established.
The third would be located even further north along the Dnieper and close to Kyiv borders in modern day Kremenchuk. It was supposedly founded in 1571 and argued that the names means "Small Fortress" in Turkish. Regardless the land would still be loosely settled with no centralized opposition. Crimea would build its third and final expanded trade settlement here.
