A list of puns related to "Neurosis And Human Growth"
Has anyone read this?
I think it has really helped me understand my depression is caused by the discrepancy between my idealised self, the man I think I should be and my real self.
I'm a layperson interested in psychology and I am currently reading Karen Horney's "Neurosis and Human Growth". This book has some very impressive insights into the mechanisms which underpin the neurosis. I have mostly been able to understand the material and I am able to recognize those mechanisms in my own behavior and in behavior of others.
My question is, how relevant is her theory today, given that the book was written in the 1950's? As I understand it's one of the theories that contributed to the development of classification of personality disorders in the DSM? If I wanted to read a book which is more up-to-date and explains the same topic in a clear language which can be understood by a layperson, which book would that be?
Thanks in advance!
I just finished this book and was kind of blown away. It described me almost exactly in chapter 11(the resigned personality). But I do think she missed the extent of the depersonalization and a few other details. According to google this is a description of borderline pd(in the dsm-3-r). Has anyone else read it? What did you think?
It's on Libgen, for anyone who wants to grab it.

NO shade just trying to help ya'll out.
The neurosis in the human species is absolutely essential. We have to maintain this neurosis in order to function in this society. There is no other way that we can function in this society except to live in hope and die in hope. There are some people who have given up. But we force them to become functional in this value system which we have created. We even push them to commit suicide lest they become manic-depressive individuals. We are solely responsible for driving all these people into a situation where they have to put an end to themselves. They don't want to be functional here. They have given up. That is the reason why I say that the psychiatrist is the enemy of this culture, because he is forcing all those people who have given up to fit into this value system. One of the tragic things that human culture has done to us is that it has placed before us the model of a perfect being. That perfect being is modeled after the great spiritual teachers.

If we were all cells in a body, the individual would be pretty much fucked trying to survive as a single cell. Even if you're a parasite, it's better to not affect the overall picture, or instead, even try to push it in a better direction to indirectly benefit you while avoiding backlash to you that might come from unexpected growth.
Like cells in the body, humanity is also on a tight-rope and hoping to minimize negative mutations. At any point, cancer cells can metastasize and ruin the entirety of humanity. Certain beliefs or actions can literally spell the end of humanity and hopefully we're doing our best to stop that, or at least keep it contained. And how long will that last? I wonder.
I was directed to use Modern States to prep for the exam but after I created an account, it just didnβt feel like a good resource to me. Instead, I used the 8th edition of the REA book and Quizlet sets based off of that.
I started studying about three weeks ahead of time, just for an hour or two after work. I first took practice exam 1 in the REA book to get a baseline. Then read through all the chapters. I broke the Quizlet into 14 sets and studied a set each night after reading the chapters.
After that, I took the last two practice exams. For any of the questions I missed, I revisited the information and then retook all of the tests again.
I did ultimately click through (didnβt watch) all of the modern states videos and took their practice exam at the end. If I would have done that to start, I would have found out that they would have covered my CLEP exam fee and the online proctor π€¦ββοΈ oh well.
If it matters: I am mid-30s, hadnβt taken a psych class for like 15 years, needed this for my ABSN program.
YOU CAN DO IT!
Anything goes! I havenβt really watched many k-dramas and most of them are from 2015-2017, when I was really big on korean entertainment. Iβm writing a thesis on shows with these kinds of values such as Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Good Place, and Fruitβs Basket where the emphasis is on humans getting to become better and kinder people and the story itself advocating for empathy, community, and mutual aid. Any k-dramas with these types of values, characters or stories?
For those unaware, every Saturday we have a specific steroid or PED up for discussion. This week we are discussing Human Growth Hormone aka HGH. The goal of these threads is to generate discussion about the posted compound and get a wide variety of user experiences and feedback about it. These threads are extremely useful as an archive for new users, and for experienced users researching a new compound. This is all anecdotal, of course, and you should take these reviews with a grain of salt.
