A list of puns related to "Naturopathic"
So I know an IM resident who is a naturopath and went to med school after getting her ND. She has a whole website and everything and books "integrative medicine consultations"for a lot of $$$. I looked into her website, and it has a section describing naturopathic medicine training as exactly as rigorous as medical school with the added benefit of "treating the body as a whole" whatever that means. She also describes herself as an "an expert in regenerative and restorative health"
This is a freaking IM resident at an academic program. Like how?!
I've been struggling with acne since I was around 12 years old (so for about a decade now) and I've been on antibiotics and hormonal birth control to treat it and they both worked, but I didn't like the side effects they were having on my body, so I stopped taking them and my acne came back. I want to try naturopathic medicine because it would be a healthier long term solution. Please any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
I'm currently a dietetics major and recently decided that dietetics, although very important work, wasn't for me. So what are your opinions on naturopathic doctors? I want the good, bad, and ugly! I know this field is sometimes seen as controversial so I want to make sure I am making the decision that will truly be helping people the most.
I am also considering becoming a Physician Assistant although I am considering that I will just be treating signs and symptoms and not getting to the root cause of the issue.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you
Hi everyone! I have a lawyer friend who takes sources and research very seriously. He isnβt sure how he feels about naturopathic medicine and asked me for some βcredible sources/sitesβ to research about the field. I figured this would be the place to ask! Thank you in advance.
Probiotics are microorganisms β bacteria (bugs) that promote health in the human body.
TW: This case deals with suicide and is tough to read, might not be the best for all readers. Be warned.
A woman sees multiple clinicians (including a naturopathic provider) for suicidal thoughts.
At home she takes her husband's gun and holds it to her head at one point. Long text message chain with her family included in court documents.
Tragically dies by suicide at the age of 32.
Lawsuit is filed by her husband against everyone who has seen her in the past few months.
Hey all! I'm curious what you all have to say about some of the claims that Naturopathic Diaries, an ex ND, says about Naturopathy.
For instance, she has claimed that ND schools' science classes are not of the same rigor as medical school. And that students leaving ND schools are not prepared to be someone's primary care doctor. She has also states that ND schools are taught modalities, such as homeopathy, that do not have a strong scientific backing. Lastly, she says that like MDs, ND's are pill pushers themselves as they send their patients home with expensive supplements that do not help their conditions.
A footpath
They just sent a mass email to every premed inviting us to "become the doctor you want to have" at a naturopathic virtual fair. Like, bruh. Freshmen and sophomores, this sort of shit is why you don't rely on premed advising depts.
It's not even a shitpost I just genuinely don't know what to flair this clown college shit
A little background: 32F, diagnosed hypothyroid in 2017(?). I took various doses of levothyroxine without improvement in symptoms. My labs went back to βnormalβ so my doc told me to stop taking meds about a year ago. Six months ago I got labs done and of course my numbers showed hypo again, so this time I asked to start armor thyroid instead. Doc put me on 30mg and bumped it up to 60mg about two months ago after labs came back with an even higher TSH.
I got referred to an endocrinologist and it was the biggest letdown ever. I waited four months to get the consult (I live in a very underserved region of CA) and she basically told me to stay at 60mg and come back in three months after more lab work. And she recommended I consider taking Wegovy (which after researching sounds like poison to me.)
Iβm so frustrated and depressed. Iβve been exhausted for years now. Iβve tried everything I can think of to improve my energy levels, but I still just feel like Iβm wading through sludge. It only seems to be getting worse. Iβm desperate for relief.
How do yβall feel about naturopathic doctors? Do you have any success stories you can share with me?
Edit: My TSH (uIU/ml) levels over the years.
Feb 2019 - 5.37 unmedicated
June 2019 - 2.39 medicated with levo
Aug 2020 - 2.50 medicated with levo (doc stopped treatment)
June 2021 - 4.84 unmedicated (new doc started armor)
Sept 2021 - 5.92 medicated with armor
Hey all!
I posted a while ago about seeing a naturopath for the first time and how much hope she gave me. I totally stopped getting periods for 8 months after stopping birth control and was diagnosed with PCOS due to the irregular periods and high testosterone + an ultrasound. My doctors just wanted to put me back on BC. I didn't want to start taking it again.
My naturopath started me on cyclical bioidentical progesterone for 3 months as well as supplements. I don't want to list every supplement as I believe it's important to speak to a professional who can tell you which ones to take. I was blindly taking supplements recommend by this sub/instagram pages and my ND really helped me tailor my supplement regime.
I also did some blood work for inflammation markers which was normal, and a fasting glucose insulin challenge test (I think that's the name of it, they poked me a bunch of times after making me drink sugar water). And my insulin/glucose levels were all normal as well. I should mention I'm already a healthy BMI and eat a mostly whole foods and vegan diet but I def wasn't watching my carbs.
After the 3 months of progesterone and getting withdrawal bleeds as I was supposed to, we took a break and decided to see what happened. I had one very short period but otherwise it's now been 3 months that I get my period within a 30 day cycle!!! I'm so so relieved to actually be menstruating by myself.
Some other symptoms I was struggling with were high sebum production especially in my scalp but also on my face. This has gone down as well but I use an anti dandruff shampoo and have changed my skincare routine to account for these changes (a stronger cleanser and salicylic acid). I highly recommend seeking out a healthcare practitioner that will listen and has experience with PCOS. I'm so grateful to my ND.
Hi guys! First time poster to the thread. Excited to be starting the process of having my first child and I have a (potentially) controversial question, so please keep it clean in the comments. All opinions are valid.
I am a strong believe in vaccinating my future children, however my husband wants to explore a more naturopathic way of starting to care for our infant. Iβve done some research and Iβve seen some people call vaccines naturopathic and some not.
Has anyone else done any research on this for their kids? Thanks
Iβm trying to become a nurse. Currently taking anatomy as prerequisite. His lectures are spreading BS about how modern medicine is lying to you and talking about how cholesterol doesnβt cause problems with cardiovascular system instead it is people are eating too much carbs which he says is like eating a cube of sugar. Also being cynical about businesses and the government involving nutrition. He also recommending vitamins and talking about how people should take all sorts of it in low dosage. I donβt know if this is BS im only study anatomy right now.
He runs his own practice. Idk if heβs pull stuff out of his ass because I heard naturopathy is pseudoscience.
I am in a lot of pain and all my doc says is take Advil/Aleve but I am looking for other options to help manage the pain. Any inputs of alternative medicine? Please advise
I made an appointment to see a Naturopathic doctor for a slew of health concerns including about a 50lb weight gain in the last year, fatigue, chronic stomach issues, brain fog, etc. Iβm concerned I have a hormonal or thyroid issue that may be the root cause. Doctors make me incredibly nervous and I have never been a great advocate for my own health. So I typically avoid them.
I would love advice on what to ask about or how to make the most out of my appointment. Iβm concerned Iβll waste my time and money by not asking the right questions.
Thank you!
Anyone successfully treated anxiety and depression with a naturopathic treatment? Thanks!
Where do people meet local friends who share a passion for natural medicine? As many know, it becomes a huge part of one's lifestyle and after a certain point it can be difficult to find much in common with people who aren't knowledgeable or interested in natural health. This was especially clear to me after I dated the first alt-health oriented person in my life after dating many many normies. It was like night and day.
Are there any good social networks to meet like minded people? At this point I barely want to spend any time with people who want to argue about you know what and current medical political bs. Sometimes I feel like the only way to cultivate a likeminded social circle is to literally go to ND school.
trying to get back to the traditional medicine of my ancestry, but cannot speak the language and therefore not able to really communicate with all those old folks in Chinatown. Iβd love to go see them but not sure who, or how to express what I needβ¦ Also really tired of seeing non-Asian people trying to take over the industry. Any recommendations for practitioners that I can turn to?
Edit: How people come to the conclusion that this is somehow discrediting contemporary scientific research by Asians is beyond me, because I actually made no mention of this :)
Does anyone else find symptoms and especially cramping are exacerbated by emotional stress? I'm in a very stressful season right now and my symptoms seem to be terrible. Also very constipated.
Has anyone had any luck with naturopathic doctors or remedies? Previous doctors just want to put me on birth control and I do not want to take that for a myriad of reasons. Any experience positive or negative with naturopaths?
As title suggests, we are looking for a naturopath in the Coachella Valley for a family member who is having some new autoimmune health issues. It's hard to start from scratch with Google, hoping someone has a clinic they love and can recommend. Thanks!
Even before getting pregnant I had a bit of a stomach pouch. Pregnancy made it that much worse, so while browsing Groupon I decided to go with an iLipo set of treatments to help reduce it. They had sets of 2 and sets of 4, so I went with the set of 2 and was like "if it works it works, if it doesn't, whatever. I tried"
The treatment itself was fine. The doctor was an absolutely horrid woman.
I'm currently 145lb and 5'5"; before the baby I had gotten to a low of 125lb, but had previously lost weight from 165lb. I know how to lose weight, I know how to eat healthy. But, you know. Baby. I'm hungry like 80% of the time because of breastfeeding and breastfeeding supplements (goat's rue in particular - I have a low supply so I combo feed) and my antidepressants. So, I know my diet is crap, but that's not why I was there. I was there for a service to help spot reduce my lower abdomen so I don't feel like crap about myself.
To set the scene, none of the people working in the office were in masks. This was red flag #1 - my county is on a universal mask mandate. If you are indoors and not in your own home and are not partaking in a few choice activities (e.g. eating, sleeping, talking to someone hearing impaired) and are over the age of 2, you must be masked. I'm not a huge fan of this rule personally (been fully vaccinated for months), but if its the rule then I just go with it. That they are not wearing masks means that they are making a political statement. Lovely.
Red flag #2 was some anti-vaxx propaganda pamphlets in the waiting area.
So, I filled out the paperwork and was called back. The assistant asked me about my diet (again, not great. Energy drink to start my day, then a coffee at work with sometimes a pastry. Work lunch which varies [I aim for ~600 calories], often things like tacos or pizza or a chicken sandwich. Dinner is a meat, a starch, a vegetable. I usually have some candy or an ice cream bar or some other snack before bed. in all, 1800-2200 calories a day). Also she asked about my meds, which I admitted supplements for low milk supply and antidepressants. She was fine.
Then doctor came in. "Your diet is shit [actual words, this sentence is not paraphrased]. Also, if you so an actual dietician and took some actual vitamins, you wouldn't have postpartum depression. That is entirely because of your bad diet."
She then railed into me for a while, calling me a bad mother because I eat processed foods and breastfeed (all the food I eat go
