(Serio) Passat CC 3.6 DSG 4motion vs AUDI A5 Sportback Multitronic Quattro

Hola!

Is the multitronic really that unreliable

Im about to buy an audi a6 c7 2.0 diesel. I want an automatic but i am finding lots of negative posts about the multitronic and the s-tronic versions are too expensive. I could buy a manual aswell but i am wondering if the multitronic really is so unreliable that i should go for a manual?

Was Control a previous incarnation of the Multitronic unit?

Refer to the TOS episode The Ultimate Computer where Richard Daystrom, programmer extraordinare, introduces us to M5, a computer program so advanced, it can pretty much replace a crew for all starship functions. Chronologically, this happens after the events of DSC, which makes Control younger than M5, and yet Control demonstrated the ability to command a fleet of ships autonomously (having murdered all of the crews in advance). It's likely that Control was envisioned as an earlier model of the Multitronic system, designed by Daystrom, and the unexpected development of autonomous starship control is what inspired him to develop M5.

Daystrom himself was also shown to be a man of wavering mental health, which could possibly be attributed to being indirectly responsible for the high loss of life that resulted from Control going rogue, making M5 his attempt at self-redemption. Of course, M5 would also go rogue and kill over 300 people as well, leading to Daystrom suffering a complete mental breakdown.

This does raise some interesting continuity questions, though. As seen in DSC, Spock had direct knowledge of and interactions with Control, and being a man of logic, should make him sceptical of advanced artificial intelligence, yet the Spock of TOS shows an affinity for M5. Kirk, meanwhile, has either not forgotten the sour history of previous Starfleet experiments in advanced AI, or he's just feeling insecure that a computer can do a better job than him. The Federation at large has demonstrated a level of prejudice toward advanced AI, though this is largely justified by experience (Control, M5, Nomad, Vger, Lore, the Borg, the bedside manner of the Mk1 EMH), so it's fitting that the scars of past encounters with AI had an effect on Data's legal battle to be recognized as sentient and The Doctor's legal battle for copyright control over his holonovel. Not their faults that Control and M5 ruined everyone's opinion of thinking computers before they were born.

Advances in Multitronic computer technology.

In TOS, it is shown that Multitronic computer technology is not at a stage in development where it can replace the existing duotronic computer systems currently in use. The multitronic M-1 through M-4 computer systems were total failures. The M-5 that was installed aboard the USS Enterprise also had catastrophic results during it's test.

Duotronic systems were ultimately replaced by isolinear circuitry in the 24th century, however it is shown in the VOY episode Message in a Bottle that the highly advanced Prometheus class prototype "was designed with an unprecedented level of automation". Is this evidence of huge advances in Multitronic computer technology, or perhaps a hybrid of the current computer technology with aspects of Multitronic computer technology mixed in?

Also in the JJ alternate time line, there is very strong evidence that Multitronic computer technology never experienced the setbacks and failures that it did in the prime universe. The Dreadnought class USS Vengeance showed a extreme level of automation that can only be attributed to the Multitronic computer technology of that time.

Well, I just got the CVT and i was wondering if there was any other (serious) problem associated with the CVT other than the "shudder" some people experience. The thing is I don't really mind the little shudder I also have an '03 jetta that will occasionally do the same thing.

Multitronic hypotheticals - What if the glorious M-5 hadn't been successful?

As we approach the anniversary of this glorious victory and celebrate a great achievement of the Daystrom Institute, I wish to speculate regarding what could have happened if the M-5 had not vanquished the fleet sent against it.

Rumor in the halls has it that that our Patrician had garnered a certain amount of opposition in the Imperial Palace. Whether it was jealousy at his innovation of Duotronic Battle Circuits or the work he performed in providing battle-hardened defenses against the insipid Romulan computer warriors, he clearly was a target.

Unleashing the M-5 on the task force sent to apprehend him was a masterful stroke, but what would have happened had he been unsuccessful?

Clearly I am speaking hypothetically, don't be foolish and assume I have anything but loyalty for our leader. It is our job as war scientists to analyze our enemies for weakness and refight battles of the past to prepare for struggles of the future.

As we know, the ships were destroyed, the Empire was suddenly the professor's greatest supporter, and the Multitronic shipmaster has been used to put down several threats in the border region since.

But... What would have happened to the M-5 system had it been unsuccessful? Would it have been destroyed? Disassembled for study? Or would the Empire's lackeys tried to turn it into some sort of half-witted administration system? The last one is, of course, a ridiculous idea. I seek merely to spark debate.

Consider this a flight of fancy, but what would YOU do with an unsuccessful M-5?

B6 Audi A4 FrontTrak Multitronic CVT Fluid change DIY guide

I picked up a 2005 A4 cabriolet a few weeks ago. In my research before the purchase I saw that the CVT has been a real problem with this model. I had the dealership check with Audi and provide me with proof that the TCU had been replaced and the transmission had been updated to the 7-puck "clutch" already. Still, after some time with the car I was noticing a shudder as it shifted into third gear. I consulted with my local Audi dealer (who were absolutely awful in every aspect) and they let me know the transmission was serviced 40k miles ago. They quoted me $500 for a fluid change. So I did my own research and found some online guides and went to work. It was easier then I expected and now my transmission shifts perfectly. Here's a guide to how I did it:

First I collected everything I thought I would need: Various ratchets and drivers, automotive electrical tape, a fluid pump, gloves, CVT fluid, a fluid drain pan, a screw driver, a floor jack, and jack stands. I ended up not needing the screw driver or the jack stands.

Here you see the drivers and ratchets. What you need is a 10mm driver and a drain plug security socket. This socket has many names: VAG 3357 tool, 16mm 16 point security driver, etc. I got mine from here. I also used a big 1/2" ratchet and a 1/2" breaker bar. The breaker bar isn't exactly necessary but the transmission pan is aluminum so it expands and contracts. My drain and fill plugs were extremely tight and the breaker bar allowed me the leverage to break them loose easily.

Here is the fluid I used. There are other options but all of them are extremely over priced. I got mine here and it came out to just over $10 per quart shipped.

To get started I had to get the car up in the air and level. This meant raising both ends. I pulled the front up on my ramps and then jacked up the back.

Here you can see the jack point I used in the rear. It's hard to tell the exact spot from the picture but very obvious when you get under the car. I thought I was going to have to jack it way up in the air and use jack stands but to get it level I only had t

2014 A5 Multitronic - issues?

Hi /r/Audi!

I am looking to upgrade to a spanking new A5 later this month. I have an appointment for a test drive this friday with the 1.8 TFSI with the Multitronic (CVT) gearbox.

I am very much looking forward to this, ofcourse, and am very curious to find out what it drives like.

What are your experiences with the Multitronic gearbox? Googling about issues with this gearbox gives a lot of results. Mostly from the previous gen cars though, and I can't seem to find a lot about the reliability of the new one. Can you guys help me out?

Sorry if my English isn't perfect, it's not my first language

Thanks!

Why there never has been, and should never be, a Federation Starship U.S.S. Daystrom

We know that Richard Daystrom, this illustrious Institute's namesake, was a very principled and spiritual man, who abhorred war and killing. He sought to use his gifts to bestow upon all sentients of the Federation new tools and technologies that would save lives, not take them, even going so far as to try his best to automate space exploration... In order to prevent the fighting and deaths that occasionally struck against the crews of Federation Starships or would occur in the wake of their travels.

Even prior to, but especially following Daystrom's disastrous M-5 multitronic computer fiasco that led to the deaths of hundreds of officers, the man himself would have made it known he would never wish to be "honoured" by having his name attached to any (ultimately) military asset, with the capacity to take lives, or upon which Federation lives could be endangered as crews of sentients daringly explored the unknown.

So there will never be a U.S.S. Daystrom. Instead, they named the Institute after him.
