Why has the railway fallen out of use in military logistics?
In the first half of the twentieth century, particularly during WW1 and WW2 the railway was the prominent means for delivering supplies and logistics (at least for combat on mainland Europe) and motor vehicles were supplementary to deliver supplies to areas where the railway could not efficiently reach.
However, nowadays the vast majority of military supply is done with aircraft and trucks, with the railway playing an extremely minor role if it is used at all. What are causes (particularly in terms of technological advancement) which caused this shift?
