Mebendazole Puns

Has anyone ever tried this or had success with this to treat brain cancer? It was suggested by a friend who is being treated out of Australia, actually. It's something that they're using quite a bit there, I guess. Any thoughts?

1. 메벤다졸이란 무엇인가?
메벤다졸(Mebendazole, MBZ)은 벤지미다졸(Benzimidazole) 계열의 광범위 작용형 기생충 치료제(구충제)다. 선충, 촌충, 회충 등 많은 기생충에 널리 작용한다. Vermox(베목스, 버목스)와 Ovex의 상품명으로 구미에서 널리 사용되어 온 약이다. 국내(일본)에서도 인가되어 있음은 물론이다.(한국에서는 수출용으로 생산은 하지만 유통은 되지 않는다.)
2. 메벤다졸 복용량
1정 100mg으로 기생충의 치료에는 1일 100~200mg을 며칠간 복용한다. 포충증에는 장기간 투여한다. WHO 가이드라인은 단포충증(cystic echinococcosis, CE)은 40-50mg/kg/day를 적어도 3~6개월 복용하고 다포충증(alveolar echinococcosis, AE)에는 40-50mg/kg/day를 2년 이상 복용한다. 10년 이상 복용한 증례보고도 있다. 그만큼 안전성이 매우 높은 약물이라는 것이다.
3. 메벤다졸 부작용
독성이 매우 낮고 부작용이 적은 약물이다. 기생충 치료의 경우 대량의 기생충이 제거될 때 복통이나 설사를 일으킬 수 있는 정도이고 약물 자체의 독성은 거의 없다고 보고되고 있다. 그러나 드물게 알레르기 반응으로 발진이나 두드러기가 나오는 경우도 있다고 한다. 임신 중에는 복용할 수 없다. 2세 이하의 소아도 데이터가 없기 때문에 권장하지 않는다.
4. 메벤다졸 약물 동태
소화관에서의 흡수율은 20% 정도로 복용 후 2~4 시간 후 혈중 농도는 정상이다. 지방이 많은 식사와 함께 복용하면 흡수율이 높아진다. 10mg/kg 복용시 최고 농도의 평균은 137.4ng/ml(0.47μM)이라는 보고가 있다.
시메티딘이 메벤다졸의 약물대사 효소에 의한 분해를 억제하고 혈중 농도를 1.5배 정도 높인다는 보고가 있다. 시메티딘 자체에 항종양 효과가 있으므로 병용하는 것이 유익하다는 는 것이다.(시메티딘은 히스타민 수용체 길항작용에 의해 위산 분비를 억제하는 약물로 암의 전이와 재발을 예방하는 효과가 임상시험 등에서 나타났다)
5. 항암작용에 대한 메벤다졸 기초연구(배양세포 및 동물실험)
2002년 Mukhopadhyay의 연구그룹(인도)이 배양 폐암세포를 사용한 실험에서 메벤다졸이 용량 및 시간 의존성으로 세포 사멸을 유도한다는 사실을 처음 보고한 바 있다. 50% 저해농도(IC50)는 0.16μM이다. 암 세포는 G2/M期에서 세포주기를 정지하고 세포 사멸을 일으키게 되는데, 정상의 인간 혈관 내피세포와 정상의 섬유아세포에 대해서는 1μM의 농도에서도 세포독성 작용은 나타나지 않았다.
그 후, 메벤다졸의 암세포 증식 억제효과는 유방암, 난소암, 대장암, 골육종 등에서도 확인되어 IC50은 0.1에서 0.8μM이었다.
폐암 세포를 누드 쥐에 이식한 실험계에서 종양의 직경이 3mm 정도 성장한 다음, 메벤다졸 1mg을 격일로 투여하는 실험 모델에서 용량 의존적으로 암세포의 증식 억제 작용이 인정되었다. 기타 쥐 실험에서는 비슷한 항종양효과가 확인되고 있다. 쥐의 꼬리정맥에서 A549 세포를 주입하여 폐 전이를 형성한 실험 모델에서 대조군은 암세포를 주입하고 21일 이후 약 300개의 폐 전이가 확인되었지만 메벤다졸 1mg을 격일로 투여한 쥐들에서는 폐 전이의 수가 80% 감소된 것으로 확인되었다. 이 실험계에서 파클리탁셀은 항종양효과를 보이지 않았다. 또한 이 동물실험에서 부작용은 전혀 나타나지 않았다고 한다.
체표면적으로 환산하면 20g의 쥐 1일 1mg투여는 체중 70kg의 인간에서는 1

I suspect I may have threadworms, but am not too sure. (Have all symptoms). What happens if I take Mebendazole, and it turns out I don't have threadworms? Would it be bad for me to take this medication if I dont even have threadworms? Can't go to the GP at the moment because of the coronavirus. Thanks!

I'm a student in England and my friend was diagnosed with threadworms yesterday. I share a desk (and sometimes equipment) with him in 75% of my lessons and I'm really not in favour of the idea of catching his parasite. He is taking mebendazole to cure himself and I was wondering if it is worth me doing the same as a way to prevent transmission of the eggs. I am already cautious of using the same equipment as him and washing my hands before eating but would this drug work in a way to prevent me getting threadworms?

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

I've noticed that a lot of the most commonly mentioned treatments are generally the ones that are mentioned on maximpulses site like Permithrin, Ivermectin or alternatively Moxidectin, Benzyl benzoate, Sulfur, essential oils, etc. For whatever reason these treatments don't seem to be working for people who seem to have resistant strains. Or they work for a time only to have symptoms return.

I started to think about other oral medications or treatments that could be alternatives to ivermectin or moxidectin.

Benzimidazoles (albendazole, fenbendazole, oxfenbendazole,
mebendazole, thiabendazole) are antiparasitic agents which have shown some effectiveness against scabies but haven't been studied on the same scale as other treatments.

Neither of these drugs seem to be easily obtainable where I'm from (Canada). Perhaps you guys know of an alternative way of obtaining these treatments for scabies.

However, Fenbendazole, another anti-parasitic drug in the same family of drugs, is available as a veterinary product and there are some listings for humans on Amazon but some of the reviews suggest that the purity is less than stellar. Fenbendazole seems to have gained some traction recently because of studies showing effectiveness against certain cancers/tumors, so people are taking it out of desperation. I'm wondering if it could be useful against scabies, but who knows what kind of dosing would be required. There doesn't seem to be much information available on whether its effective against mange or mites in general, so this might be a dead end in terms of having any usefulness against scabies.

Another possibility that isn't discussed much is Spinosad. Apparently it's FDA approved and its a topical treatment that is "officially" safe to apply everywhere and there seems to be less concern about systematic absorption. Here's an article on it ->
