A list of puns related to "Material Fallacy"
I have already thought to reference them to the gospel topics essays. The thing is they are willing to read, but they are very believing. Their desire was sparked because of all the recent changes, and they are not oblivious to the decline of missionary work and attendance worldwide. They acknowledge there are legitimate concerns and are willing to learn, but they are very cautious to change their view, They believe all the scriptures are literal (although they are not well versed), and they are just becoming aware of the new church narrative. So any simple sources from "church approved" sites would be incredibly helpful. I have never done this before and I really don't think I should get them to read an in depth analysis' of scriptures or history, like what I read when I started my journey. The similar the better to start.
Edit: Thank you fellow exmormon missionaries for your insights!
Ad Hominem is a Logical Fallacy characterized by an attack against an author, rather than the substance of their statements, to disrupt ideas and gaslight without providing evidence. [1] [2]
Common forms of Ad Hominem include Appeal to Motive to question the motives of the author and Poisoning the Well to adversely discredit the author, such as through false attributions and straw man attacks. [3] [4]
The purpose of utilizing this technique is to discourage ideas with minimal effort by sowing distrust, anger, and exhaustion against those who present or review information.
This technique is often used in Gaslighting: sowing doubt into the population and deligitimizing information. [5]

"Leveling Phase" => "Endgame Phase"
Why are MMOs still doing this thing where there is a level cap that people have to spend 100+ hours grinding towards before they are introduced to the system and the rest of the world? New World had a massive opportunity to be a player-driven world. It could allow low level players participate in Wars among high level players, but instead they decided to do the typical leveling to 60 and alienating players that aren't willing to do repetitive shit for hours upon hours before they are allowed to participate in the rest of the world. Aside from having access to bigger numbers (another contrived system of separation for no reason), a level 20 player doesn't have less knowledge about combat than a level 60 player. Logically there is nothing preventing them from being able to participate in Warfare, but instead the developers have chosen to arbitrarily make the level 60 player just be stronger, making a level 20 player is at a disadvantage and therefore should never participate in PvP on a mature server.
Despite the 100s of bugs currently in New World, I would imagine the active population right now would be 3x as big as it is now if people didn't get burned out by leveling at level 20 - 30 and instead were allowed to play the game at an early level. Right now most modern MMO's treat the leveling phase as an extremely LONG tutorial section where you as a player aren't even introduced to the final systems. All in all this flow causes many modern MMOs feel like completely two different games before Max Level and AFTER Max Level. World of Warcraft is still a really fun game to run around and explore the world UNTIL you hit "Endgame". Once the leveling phase (well leveling BEFORE you hit the newest expansion) is over, you are pushed on-rails to participate in systems that didn't exist prior to you entering the "Endgame" phase. The game becomes less fun, less free.
The Endless Erection of the Stick the Carrot is On
Aside from Guild Wars 2, this is a common trope in MMOs. Instead of introducing new content on its own, most developers chose to make the "Leveling Phase" of the game longer. Instead of having faith that their content is interesting on its own, they keep adding random power level contrivances which in-turn also invalidate previous content in a lot of these games since the pr

1st stage: Denial
The trailers hit the internet and Moiraine is saying the Dragon Reborn is "one of the five of you". Booktubers are saying this was just added as a voiceover for the trailers to make it a mystery. Then we get a clip of the first minute and Moiraine is saying "we don't if they have been reborn as a boy or a girl". Again people online say this is just an unreliable narrator, etc. The show is going to be great and we are all in for one hell of a ride.
2nd stage: Anger
The first 3 episode are released and we have people being angry with all the changes to the source material, the rushed plot, the cringy overly dramatic line delivery and the CW feel of it. Then the people who like the show get angry about the people who don't like the show. Youtubers lash out at the "toxic" vocal minority, who are trying to "get the show cancelled and ruin the fun for everybody else". Any critique of the logical fallacies of the scripts is branded "racist/misogynistic/book purist" etc. We also have the other side of youtubers ripping it apart and hating everything about it because it's too woke. We have people review bombing the show with 1/10 and then people reviewing the show a 10/10 as a counterstrike.
3rd stage: Bargaining
The show is releasing episodes 4,5 and 6, moving further away from the books with each episode, dedicating an entire episode to a background character, adding more focus to warders having threesomes, Moiraine being in a lesbian relationship with Siuan, Lan crying and rubbing nipples, instead of focusing on the epic fantasy aspects of the book, the wonder and discovery of this world through the eyes of the EF5, the great lore and history of the universe, advetures of bravery, etc. But apparrently Lan's mourning is a Korean custom so it makes sense, focusing on Stepin is great forshadowing for the future of Lan and Moiraine, and the sexualities are implied in the books so it's more realistic to dedicate a lot of time to the horniness instead of the epicness. Also the books were apparrently never that good in the first place and changes were needed. Why were book fans expecting a faithful adaptation? They probably wanted a 1-1 adaptation where we spend 3 episodes describing Nynaeve's dress and the roofs of Emond's Field. The writers have said that they hav

We watched one about JonBenet last year, I didn't really take it all in, a few days ago though I went down the rabbit hole on this case. I consumed the facts the way I would take in a file that got dropped on my desk. I have never handled a case quite like this, nor am I offering my purported "authority" as a reason my theory is correct, as I've had quite enough of that logical fallacy in arguments lately...
With that said, this will be a long long long post, it will contain facts and speculation, I will note when I am speculating. I will also address potential holes in the theory and why I believe them to not be holes at all. I welcome all comments and criticisms. If I misstate a fact or claim something as true that is not, please correct me, it is surely not intentional to make my theory fit. I will assume that the reader is familiar with the case and will not restate every fact nor list every one relevant to my conclusions.
I do want to say one thing relevant to my experience in investigating and prosecuting cases with complex fact patterns. It is very common that actions appear senseless, or without reason. It is, overwhelmingly, not truly erratic behavior that causes that perception, but rather the absence of a known fact that, if known to the outsider, would clarify the purpose for the behavior. I believe that to be the case here (obvious, right?) - but I think the "missing fact" phenomenon is occurring in more places than is realized, and I believe it is warping analysis and perspective.

It is immediately clear that the parents covered up the murder to some extent, and we should start here, as the rest of the analysis unfolds from this predicate. As one redditor aptly wrote, "if you take away the ransom note, what are you left with?" And the answer is, a dead child in a house with, really, no other explanation. Couple that with the fact that the handwriting is likely from Patsy, it was written on a notepad and pen from the house, it doesn't make sense for a kidnapper to write the note in the house, no real evidence of forced entry yada yada... I hope the reader accepts that the parents covered up the crime and forged the RN. I will parenthetically note - I have seen some discussion speculating that John may not have realized his wife wrote the note, was not complicit in the cover up until discovering that, etc. One piece of evidence that

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. Hey guys!
Yesterday morning, I decided to make a post detailing my journey on taking the SAT as well as my feelings after(Those of you still on the grind, I recommend you check it out!). I did not expect my post to be so well received, nor did I expect so much interest in a potential post about what I did to improve. I have received a lot of PMs, which I am always glad to answer since college apps are done. So here goes!
Preface: My advice may not work equally for everyone, but my hopes are that you guys take something meaningful from this post. I also recognize that there are many methods to attack these sections, so I welcome any fellow 1550+ scorers to provide their input or techniques in the comments.
The SAT: The SAT contains 3 areas for testing: Reading, Writing/Language, and Math. In testing these areas, you are to be answering questions for 3 hours. For this reason, I recommend taking full practice tests that simulate the SAT experience(includes 5 and 10-minute breaks - don't use your phone on these breaks). You need to build your stamina because the SAT is admittedly mentally fatiguing. The ONLY exception I have to this recommendation is IF you have scored an 800 already in either Reading or Math because you will have the superscore anyway. Before moving on to another test, you HAVE to review the one you just did - I recommend one test per week. Now, on to what you guys really want: my section-to-section advice:
Reading: Perhaps one of the most menacing parts of the test, the Reading Comprehension section is easily the hardest section to improve on. In March 2020, I went -12 in the section, and in March 2021 I went -13! I finally got to -4 by August when I figured out some things about the Reading section:
- Annotation: As you read the passage, comprehend every paragraph or two and annotate the basic idea. Your annotation shouldn't be multiple sentences but rather a few words or short phrases that give a basic idea of what happened. Students who write more than this waste valuable time, as a few words should suffice. The idea of these short words is to be a cue for you to recall what happened in that part of the passage. It can also trigger your eidetic memory from the imagery when you originally read the text. In addition, you'll easily be able to answer progression of ideas questions on the test. Knowing where everything is in a passage, which I call "passage mapping", allows you to immediately find evidence for a ques

He worked for a school in dc? That’s not a state employee, he lives in a federal ruled place. Something goes wrong, you can’t call regular police on him, you call the feds. And when they show up they find out he’s the perfect candidate
It comes out that he makes sexual remarks about 15 year old children, the feds show up and say how about you work with us and we don’t let your wife take your kids away over this. He’s perfect for them and here’s why:
there’s blackmail material on him
he’s a pervert, just like his new coworkers
he already lives in dc and is on the payroll of dc
And the luminal order, let’s see how that’s perfect as well.
it costs 100$ a month, that’s quite an expensive subscription compared to other services, it’s guaranteed to only attract someone THAT desperate (sorry if you’ve joined, I don’t mean it as an insult to you but cmon man you paid a whole 100$ a month to learn to be a man?)

Looking also at how content about his “scandal” got scrubbed from YouTube searches, how fast he was able to get archives removed, and how comfortable he is lying or talking about underage kids sexuality, it’s almost like he has a green light and promise of no consequences. Someone like that would’ve lost their kids custody battle by now, not him though.

Have your players ever locked on one of your monsters and began demanding answers to prying questions about a non-existent backstory? Is there an ancient evil deity of cosmic horror with a huge cult following, filled with monsters ready to be cut down by your party of questionable moral character?
When someone, whether they be a player character or an NPC, joins a cult to an eldritch primordial being… what is their reasoning? Don’t they know or realize that they are basically signing up to be part of the bad guys who are going to destroy the world and all the people living on it? What could possibly motivate them to risk their lives in such an endeavor?
We are all motivated by different things, like I’m motivated by carrot cake just as my players are motivated by gold, experience points, and having fun. This motivation pushes us to do things we might not like, which could include things we have to do. For example, I might force myself to go grocery shopping even though I slept terribly the night before and just want to avoid all responsibility for 24 hours. BUT, I need food or else I’ll be hungry. I motivate myself to go grocery shopping by telling myself I’ll get carrot cake while I’m out, as a treat to myself.
These motivations can also extend down to the NPCs we run in our game. While I doubt few are wholly motivated by the promise of carrot cake if they just risk their lives and murder some people that are trying to stop their entropic god, carrot cake might be used to sweeten the deal. Their motivations are going to run deeper than carrot cake, even if I wouldn’t need more motivation than that. When deciding on your NPC’s motivation, you can combine multiple motivators that all seem small, but when lumped together make for a very appetizing deal.
Here are 10 reasons why someone might join a cult.
> Deep down, I and everyone else knows that our current society is broken and flawed. We need a new world order that can fix the glaring flaws that let people be murdered, exploited, enslaved, and more. While the road ahead of us will involve killing people, it is for the greater good. We are going to rebuild this world better than ever before, and anyone stopping us is working for the current, broken system.
This type of thinking is a strong motivator for cults looking to destroy a world or a specific kingdom

Prenote: I would like to thank CCP's employees (some of them) for at least acknowledge people being mad, that is a step in the right direction - so thank you, and the skill consolidation is good
Now, given that the patch update took the patch from being really fucking bad, to still being really fucking bad, why does it seem like people are now just tacitly accepting it?
- They directly said they're putting a temporary hold on compression which means this garbage no one asked for will still be shoved into the game
- waste, which no one asked for, is still being shovled into the game
- scarcity still isn't actually going anywhere because the overall flow of minerals coming into the game is still going down
- procurers are losing (depending on your skills) 20k ehp at best
- mining frigate changes are still wild, t2's are better at combat than mining and are likely usable in place of an astero for half the cost (inb4 ccp raises the material need)
I have been informed that these changes have been scrapped - I missed this in the new update somehow, my apologies
- there will be less valuable targets in space, no one gives a shit about hunting your barges with fleets (outside of highsec ganking), settle down
- there are a bunch of other points about how the changes ripple throughout the ecosystem but these are the ones in my mind and I don't want to bog down this post
So why the fuck are people suddenly being quiet, and some even acting like it's fine? Y'all see some less bad changes and go 'oh they do listen', while they're still pushing in an awful direction?
Nothing has fundamentally changed, and some members of CCP still think their take on what THEY think EVE SHOULD be, is more important than what EVE is, and what players need from it - and this will continue to prevent actual discourse and improvement to the game.
The sooner they realize it's okay to just not do things, and to back down on changes entirely, forget their pride, and forget their sunk cost fallacy, the sooner they'll be able to actually make changes for people to be excited and happy about.
I can't speak for everyone, but for example if they came out right now and said they're getting rid of waste entirely, while keeping the doubled ore, and that they're going to work with the CSM to improve faction warfare - people would probably be fucking estatic.

I feel that this is going to be a great year, for many would-be projectors will finally achieve the out-of-body experience. To contribute to that I decided to write an extensive post with Astral projection instructions, FAQs with my answers, personal tips, book recommendations and resources to start the year strong! That being said, let’s start.
ASTRAL PROJECTION TERMINOLOGY
Before we move onto the following sections, I am aware that we use a lot of terms and acronyms in the subreddit which may be confusing for the newcomer. Because of this, I wrote this post a few months ago which covers the most used terms and acronyms in the AP community. Link: Astral Projection Terminology Post
HOW TO ASTRAL PROJECT: QUICK INSTRUCTIONS
There are many, many Astral projection methods and techniques—therefore to keep things simple, I will explain a very basic and universal strategy that happens to be the one that made me have my first out-of-body experience. When someone needs somewhere to start, I tend to explain this simple strategy due to my early successes with it. Here’s how to do it:
Lie down, close your eyes and relax. Preferably be in a comfortable position.
Visualize, as vividly as possible, that you stand up from your bed and start moving around your house/apartment/office/wherever your body is. See how your point of view changes from staring at the ceiling from your bed, to seeing your room while standing up, then waking towards the hallway (or just opening a window and jumping outside), and so on. Do this with as much detail as possible, but don’t try to force it.
You can incorporate other senses as well to make your immersive experience more convincing and realistic. As an example, you can use your imaginary hands to grab the doorknob to open the door—don’t just see how you do it; feel it! Feel the metallic texture and the smoothness of its surface. Also feel how your legs move and your feet touch the floor when you walk. Don’t just see how your legs move, but actually feel it. Incorporating auditory perceptions will make it even more real: the door creaking when opened, the sound of your feet as you walk, and so on.
Explore as much as you want. For instance, get out to the street and explore your neighborhood. Feel the warmth of the sun on your skin, or the

There was concern that the course was going to be cancelled due to trauma to the students. This course of action was halted to the large improvement in our students' scores that have taken the classes in their other studies. There have been 3 changes to how the classes will be taught.
At 0830 ST Professor McTavish was informed of these changes and his new teaching schedule. While McTavish was a bit upset he did suggest that if the scores may cause an in balance in the different students that he would have a larger auditorium to teach any students who wish to attend. At first, I told him no. His argument about how the Queen would want the best scientist for her empire. That improving the academy's scores will thus make the Queen happy. Therefore teaching as many students would make me improve my status with the Queen. I did take a few moments to think about this and it really just seemed so logical that this would be best so I agreed. 48% of the students would be in attendance and any staff that was available would also attend. If this goes to my plan I will move those numbers up to 78% as soon as certain logistical issues are resolved.
Four more Inquisitors had arrived today to ensure that there was full surveillance and to help with screenings. This makes five inquisitors at the academy. While this makes many of the staff tense it shall be done in the name of the Queen and the Pope. The great hall is being prepped at this time. I will be in attendance to ensure that my great plan of creating the best scientist will be known to all.

Discord, twitter, facebook, other subreddits, etc. are all effective ways to get the word out.
My previous post was a bit rushed, since there was barely any notice of the guidelines coming out, only a two-week comment period, and quite a lot of material to get through to craft my post. So unfortunately at the time, I wasn't able to provide Suggested Feedback for each of the sections with major issues. Fortunately, the extension of the December 16 guideline has allowed me to write some! However, a catch 22 exists here for me in the nature of the can and how it's manufactured. Most cans use a BPA lining (bisphenol A), which as many of you know, is a harmful endocrine-disrupting chemical.
And before anyone says "Yes! But fear not, I buy BPA-FREE canned food products!"
This is a fallacy. Most products labeled "BPA-FREE" use what's called a "BPA analog" which is a fancy term for another harmful chemical that mimics BPA. The analogs aren't as well studied and therefore pass under the radar of consumer health groups. What research I have read suggests they are just as harmful however. I digress
In a true SHTF scenario, food will save your life and it is for this reason I still prep with canned foods. Starvation will kill me sooner than the cancer/neurogical problems/diminished immune system/cardiovascular issues accumulated over time through exposure to BPA.
That said, it still troubles me that these chemicals persist in our food supply, especially in a product meant to be stored long-term, where materials degrade significantly over time (especially if the food is acidic like tomato sauce).
I can't help but think 10 years from now, I am going to be opening up my canned beans (looking for nutrition) and basically helping myself to some delicious BPA soup.
TLDR: Canned foods contain a harmful chemical known as BPA. In a SHTF, it's better not to starve than worry about harmful chemicals but it still bugs the shit outta me that my food is polluted and likely even moreso over the course of my long-term storage.
I'm surprised it hasn't decade.

In order for consciousness to not be fundamental then it must be emergent from something else which is fundamental. There's 2 kinds of emergence: strong and weak emergence. Strong emergence is widely rejected and is a controversial view of emergence. As professor Mark Bedau puts it:
"[strong emergence] is uncomfortably like magic. How does an irreducible but supervenient downward causal power arise, since by definition it cannot be due to the aggregation of the micro-level potentialities? Such causal powers would be quite unlike anything within our scientific ken. This not only indicates how they will discomfort reasonable forms of materialism. Their mysteriousness will only heighten the traditional worry that emergence entails illegitimately getting something from nothing."
Source: Mark Bedau (1997). Weak emergence. Philosophical Perspectives 11:375-399.
Weak emergence is a more acceptable form of emergence and is widely accepted and not seen as that controversial. However, when it comes to consciousness it is controversial since it implies a reductionism of consciousness, and as noted before such an attempt will inevitably face the hard problem of consciousness. As stated in the Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy:
"In more detail, the challenge arises because it does not seem that the qualitative and subjective aspects of conscious experience—how consciousness “feels” and the fact that it is directly “for me”—fit into a physicalist ontology, one consisting of just the basic elements of physics plus structural, dynamical, and functional combinations of those basic elements. It appears that even a complete specification of a creature in physical terms leaves unanswered the question of whether or not the creature is conscious. And it seems that we can easily conceive of creatures just like us physically and functionally that nonetheless lack consciousness. This indicates that a physical explanation of consciousness is fundamentally incomplete: it leaves out what it is like to be the subject, for the subject."

Hey r/exbahai this is my first post here so here I go, I’ll try and explain my questions, my first question is what is the most damaging fact about Baháʼu'lláh, Abdul Baha and Shoghi Effendi that few Baha’is are actually aware of and/or do not discuss? May I have reliable sources please when you reply to my question thank you. My second question how does the praising of Muhammad by Abdul Baha in the below except from Paris Talks affect the Baha’i religion in light of Muhammad’s many immoral actions that we see throughout the Quran for example the wife beating verse in Chapter 4:34 or Muhammad buying, selling and owning black slaves from the authentic Hadith quoted below? My next question is, what is the one moral dilemma that Abdul Baha committed and/or said during his life? Did anyone else get the impression that Baha’is only ever wanted those who became members or who were part of the religion in some capacity were kind of concerned where individuals would get there information from, like were you told explicitly to use only approved Baha’i material when doing research as if they kind of had something about the religion they were hiding? Lastly I have heard about what Bahais refer to as “confirmations” I believe this may be a fallacy of some sort but I can not put my finger on it, it’s either the fallacy argument from ignorance? Finally Abdul Baha says that someone can be both Christian and Baha’i but is not this a contradiction because Christians worship Jesus and Baha’i don’t so how can you be both without violating Baha’i law against idolatry as Baha’is don’t worship Jesus?
Abdul Baha saying you can be both Christian and Baha’i. https://reference.bahai.org/en/t/ab/ABL/abl-53.html#pg98
Sunan an-Nasa'i Vol. 5, Book 44, Hadith 4625 It was narrated that Jabir Sair: "A slave came and gave his pledge to the Messenger of Allah to emigrate, and the Prophet did not realize that he was a slave. Then his master came looking for him. The Prophet said; 'Sell him to me.' So he bought him for two black slaves, then he did not accept until he had asked; 'Is he a slave?'''
ʻAbdu'l-Bahá Says the book Paris Talks- Quote- “If only the whole world would acknowledge the greatness of Muḥammad and all the Heaven-sent Teachers, strife and discord would soon vanish from the face of the earth, and God’s Kingdom would come among men.”
I have been doing research for awhile, and I think other people found proof that lolicon is harmless. Anti's always say "they have no proof, they're just coping" well tell that to the truth lol.
ALSO, I did not made this information, I'll credit the original.
Article 1: By Harold Francis on quora (original page)
People insist that it’s harmless because it is.
Child pornography (aka: child sex abuse material/CSAM) is illegal because it is a form of child abuse. The material would not exist unless a child were abused in order to make it. And since a demand exists for this type of material, that in-turn creates a demand for child sex abuse. Society has a vested interest in eliminating this market for this material that, by its very nature, endangers the safety and well-being of actual, real children.
However, that justification is not in any way applicable to works of fiction, such as loli/shota anime and manga, as there is no real child involved or exploited in order to make it.Fictional children are not ‘children’. They’re drawings, nothing more than lines on paper designed to merely ‘appear to be’ a minor.
There is no empirical evidence which would justify the censorship of, or criminal prohibition of loli/shota pornography.
Studies have been conducted into the effects of pornography, especially child pornography, and although there’s conflicting findings and conclusions for such a controversial topic, the scientific community at large has refrained from claiming a causal link between pornography consumption and sexual aggression and sexual violence.
While there are people who claim that lolicon has an indirect causal relationship with CSA, this claim is, and has always been without merit and constantly conflates correlation with causation in tandem with a flagrant misunderstanding of pedophilia and how pedophiles think and act.A causal relationship between two variables is defined as one that meets the criteria for causation, in that events or effects relating to the variables are caused by one another.(Example: Smoking cigarettes is causally related to lung disease, in that the damage caused to trigger said disease is caused by the act of smoking in excess)
Pedophiles are an understandably controversial group. They’re characterized by a sexual

Those concerns had not gone away during the following century of their many deployments. We had conquered much of the globe by then, with the Thunder Warriors bearing the brunt of the fighting, so do not think we were unmindful of their sacrifice. By then, it was widely believed that what could have been perfected, had been perfected. A Thunder Warrior was a truly fearsome proposition. They were armed and armoured nearly as well as the Legio Custodes. Their numbers had grown rapidly, following improvements in the gene-cultivating methods used here and at the other sites.

Happy New Year /r/watches! I felt it would be fun to do a bit of a “year in review” after some very serious collecting in 2021, and wanted to share my thoughts with this community now that I’ve given my body to this finance destroying hobby for an entire year.
Although I’ve been collecting pocket watches with my dad since I was a kid, I didn’t get serious with this hobby until December 2020, and after sinking far more time than I care to admit into it, I’ve come up with a list of observations that I wanted to share. Much of this is probably all too familiar to you more seasoned collectors, but if these anecdotes could help guide any one of you on your watch collecting journey then it is a win in my book.
The reality is the collector’s market for watches is nuts right now:
You’ve probably heard the stories of Rolex scarcity and the insanity of “Tiffany blue dials,” but it’s not just limited to those. The entire collector’s market is bananas and demand, scarcity, inflation and supply chain issues among other challenges are pushing up the prices of watches across the board. Sinn, for example, is incredibly transparent with their customers in increasing the prices of their watches due to increased material, labor, and logistics costs. The secondary market for watches is also seeing big increases too and things are becoming far more competitive since watch collecting is more popular than ever.
It’s not love, it’s lust. Be prepared to regret some of your early purchases:
As of this morning, I only have only ONE remaining watch from my original collection. That watch is a Seiko Star Bar Honeycomb that was a gift from my partner that I cherish. Every other watch I owned is in the hands of a new collector and they’ve been replaced with new pieces that align with my newly developed tastes and preferences. You are going to lust after a lot of watches and sometimes even hate them when they end up in your hands, especially if you don’t get to try them on first. You will lose a little money doing this, but I’d argue it’s required on the journey to develop your preferences.
Sometimes the hunt is more fun than actually owning the watch:
You’re sitting on Ebay waiting for those final seconds to countdown, a jolt of adrenaline and dopamine fires into your veins as you make that final bid and win your momentary grail. You’re over the moon! Then the watch shows up in the mail and something is off. It doesn’t sit pr

"Extremely likely" requires some qualifiers:
Economics is about scarce resources that have alternative uses / consequences.
Almost any policy is about scarce resources (I can't think of any that's not)
Examples:
- Climate change: if energy wasn't a scarce resource, we wouldn't burn fossil fuels and have to deal with the problem
- Immigration: if you don't see how labor is a scarce factor in production, you wouldn't be able to understand benefits or costs to national welfare
- Minimum wages: if you don't know what a downward sloping demand curve is and why it is important, you won't be able to understand nuanced arguments for and against
If you don't understand economics, you therefore won't be able to understand the potential consequence of most policies (or any I can think of)
If you can't understand consequences of policies, your judgement on whether or not a policy is desirable is much more likely to be mistaken
You can still make some moral arguments. But many moral arguments (e.g. different forms of consequentialism) require looking at consequences. If you can't look at consequences, you can't say whether other people invoking consequentialist moral arguments are right or wrong.
5.1. In practice, it seems to me almost anyone wants to make moral arguments and believe they are sufficient; but in fact most people don't know why or how these arguments lead to consequences
To CMV you can try to persuade me that ...
- Economics is not NECESSARY to understand consequences. It's not enough to show that it's not SUFFICIENT. You can show e.g. that by using other sophisticated methods, you're able to understand the consequences of e.g. climate change just as well or better. Try to anticipate my point that a climate scientist saying that we shouldn't put more carbon into the atmosphere needs is coming short: he also has to say something meaningful how we prevent too much economic damage by doing so
- Some kind of pure empiricism is enough to judge the consequences of policies, and this particular version of pure empiricism you like doesn't require any kind of economic theory
- Examples of non-economists that have been demonstrably right about policies that have large consequences, for systemic reasons that didn't require them to understand economics.
- There is something wrong with some of the basic concepts used, like "economics" or "policy".
- The argument above is fallacious (e.g. proves too much, begs the question)

If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.
