Was the name Mackenzie (Wintermute) Influenced by the Mackenzie River?

So i was just curious while looking on the internet, and i wanted to know the history of Great Bear, and i found this. "Water flows out of the lake into the Great Bear River, then into the Mackenzie River." I think that this is why his character has the name Mackenzie. Maybe its just wild speculation but i just wanna know if anyone knows the answer or if anyone has some more input! Also in case you were wondering about my source. Anyway i felt like i should share this, i love to learn more about my beautiful country and if you have the time to read it the article is pretty interesting.

Replacing the Ferry/Ice Crossings Over Peel and Mackenzie Rivers

Would it be feasible to build permnant year round bridges on the Dempster Highway to replace the ice crossings and ferries that currently cross the Peel and Mackenzie Rivers? This was done over the Mackenzie River on the Yellowknife Highway with the construction of the Deh Cho Bridge.

Autobiography of an Inuit girl in the Mackenzie River Delta, Canada

The Inuit author recounts her childhood growing up in the Mackenzie River Delta, in the Northwest Territories of Canada, at a time when traditional life was changing quickly. She was eventually sent away to residential school, and when she came home at holidays, she found she did not have the traditional skills expected for her to help her family.

In one scene, she has been left to care for the sled dogs while her family has gone away for a few days. The dogs start acting strange and vicious, and she decides for her own safety that she has to shoot them, and fears her parents will be angry. It turned out they had rabies, and she did the right thing.

I read this in about 2000, and I think I got it from a Canadian civic library. I recall the writing was not very polished but her lived events were fascinating. It may have been aimed at young adults or adults. I don’t think it was very long, maybe 100-200 pages.

Thanks for your help in tracking this down!

Anyone else been disappointed with Mackenzie River? Long post

We live pretty close to this area and we were excited when we found out it was opening and what their menu would look like and thought it would be a new go to staple. The staff has always been pleasant for the most part but the food and service has just been.....off. These have been my few experiences:

First visit- not terrible, early enough in the evening where the place wasn’t packed so service was good and timely. We also loved the vibe and the decor the place had right off the bat. Ordered a couple flat breads and each one was boldly seasoned. I like different tastes and won’t generally shy away from anything but these were eye puckering seasoned. Figured maybe next time not order the more exotic flavored flat breads and chalked it up to that.

Second visit: I ordered the chicken and waffle which was actually really good! I really enjoyed the sauce they made with the chicken and all in all was really good all the way trough. My wife on the other hand ordered the chicken penne and again that was wayyyy over seasoned. I tried the chicken and it was coated in seasoning like someone dropped it in the sand. At that point we began to think they had an over seasoning issue and maybe needed time to train the cooks in that less is more and to get used to a different style menu.

Attempted visit: tried to go with a friend to watch the Clemson-Alabama national championship and have some apps and hang out. They had a sign on the door that they would be closing at 7 for a staff meeting. What? Okay apparently the manager didn’t get the memo a major sporting event was going on and people would be out and about to watch, drink and spend money.

Third visit: came in hungry from running errands and didn’t eat all day. We started with poutine then decided to finally try what they are famous for-pizza. They were busyish at this time and appeared to have the one bar tender for the entire place and also being the runner for the bar patrons. Our poutine comes out 20 mins later directly followed by the pizza. The poutine has been sitting for a while as it was room temp so we tell the bar tender and he throws it out without really saying anything. The pizza was okay, but not over seasoned like we we were accustomed to so that was good.

Fourth and last visit: went in alone to have a beer and eat the chicken and waffles I had been thinking about. It was busy as it was the weekend and dinner hour but I was at the bar and didn’t think much of it. Appeared to have a single
