A list of puns related to "Lumped Element"
Problems such as where should the shunt element be placed in terms of wavelength that eliminated all reflections. Also the value of that element?
Provided load, frequency and other values are given
I'm working on low pass filter design with cut off of 1250MHz. I want to know which size of cap and inductors should I choose for best performance. I heard that pad size and pad gap affect the filter performance. Is there any rule of thumb in choosing the pad size?
EDIT: Goofed the title, it should probably say "...with a single lumped element network".
I'm interested in designing an experiment to compare the relative efficiency of a number of antenna matching methods in the 1-30MHz ham radio bands. I have a VNA, and I have done simple insertion loss measurements of matching systems using purely resistive loads, but I suspect this isn't going to accurately depict the losses with a highly variable complex load, as you might find in a typical dipole antenna used over a wide frequency range for ham radio.
The only reactive elements I've done two-port measurements on so far are very narrow bandpass filters (passband <500kHz), nothing with modest complex impedance over a wide bandwidth.
I'm trying to imagine a lumped element network that would behave roughly like an antenna, with more than one true resonant point and varying complex impedance between those points, but the typical series and parallel tanks, high, low, and band pass, and band reject networks all seem to have a single resonance with precipitous increases in impedance that don't moderate much with changing frequency, even using components with very low Q.
Is there a way to roughly duplicate the broadband impedance of a practical antenna with lumped elements for use as a test load for two port measurements?
My friend is doing this for his final year design project and has hit a brickwall in terms of understand the actual process. Any help would be appreciated!

After engaging with people on this post it is clear that a lot of people do not grok what libertarianism is. I am not here talking about the theorized outcome of a libertarian society but simply what having a libertarian society would actually entail.
This post is an effort to provide a basic outline and a low friction way to go about learning more if you want to assess libertarianism proper rather than strawmen or Reddit edge lord versions.
To start off I am going to attempt to summarize the core idea of libertarianism. This is an impossible task as there are as many answer to this as there are people. Many will choose to focus on natural rights or economics or the moral limits of government. However I am going to make 2 points that I hope together will serve as a rather universal summary for libertarianism.
First, I am going to quote this one from Dan Moller: "It is often assumed that libertarianism depends on thinking that property rights are absolute, or on fetishizing individual liberty. On the contrary, the foundations of libertarianism can be found in widely shared, everyday moral beliefs-particularly in strictures against shifting our burdens onto others. The core of libertarianism, on this interpretation, lies not in an exaggerated sense of our rights against other people, but in modesty about what we can demand from them."
Second, I will quote from Deirdre Mccloskey: "Liberalism is the theory, by now only about two centuries old, that people should not be slavesβnot Koreans as slaves to Japanese, not wives as slaves to husbands, not citizens as slaves to the State. A slave cannot say No. You can be a 100 percent slave, bought and sold, or merely a 14 percent slave, taxed at that rate. Being a slave to the State only on 14 percent of the days, only on Mondays, say, unable to say No, and beaten or imprisoned if you do, still means you are a (partial) slave. Liberalism makes everyone equal in permission to buy and sell, vote and protest, move and venture. No slaves."
Hopefully the above serve as decent summaries. Let's get a bit more into the weeds now.
Libertarianism is a fairly big tent philosophy, it covers theories usually lumped into 3 groups: Classical Liberalism, Minarchism, & Anarcho-Capitalism.
Classical Liberalism:This is the philosophy of FrΓ©dΓ©ric Bastiat, Friedrich Hayek, and more recently Ron Paul. The fundam

I mean two dissimilar metals can cause a current to be generated in the presence of a temperature differential? What! Thatβs so cool. Then when you pass current through it, you can cool one side and heat the other! This blew my mind, so I went out and bought one to play with.
So what other things do I not know about? Name a few cool components and briefly describe how they work.
For about 3 years now, I've noticed that whenever I cry emotionally, I can't really see it coming because none of the usual signs are there, and my tears just come gushing out when I get emotional and it's practically impossible to hold them back because they are detached from the usual elements of crying that make it controllable. Recently, as I've been going through an emotionally tough time, I've been randomly shedding a lot of tears without warning, but besides the tears, there's nothing to suggest that I'm crying like sobbing, voice shaking, etc. What's going on with me? I can still feel emotions, and I used to be able to cry normally like everyone else. I'm a 23 year old female. Is this a physical or a mental issue? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
Death Battle is easily the single most popular YouTube show in all of Vs Debating, but one doesn't get to the top without breaking a few eggs. (That is totally a saying, shut up). Just like with any popular thing, for every fan of Death Battle, you will also find several detractors and people who are critical of the show. The most common issues I hear that people have with Death Battle boil down to a few recurring points that I would like to discuss and also give my own thoughts on what meaningful improvement might look like. By the end of this, I hope to make a case for why Death Battle is a show that is deserving of respect, even if it has certain pain points that could use some work. These points are:
The Research
Depending on who you talk to, Death Battle is either problematic for low-balling characters into oblivion or wanking them into ridiculousness. Many of these criticisms are lumped under the umbrella of "bad research", but I believe that the criticism is actually trying to say a few different things. When someone criticizes research, they generally are talking about:
a) Missing important feats/Getting things wrong
b) Poor calculations on feats
c) Flawed assumptions behind the calculations
d) Disagreement on the matchup's victor.
While these each seem similar, lumping them all into the same criticism of "research" is a disservice to a solid argument of what should change, and it doesn't actually say what the issue is. Let's start with that first point,
βMissing important feats/getting things wrong.
Ultimately, this is one of the biggest turnoffs to me in a Vs Battle. It seems like the solution is simple, just "double-check everything", but in reality, reliable feat gathering is much more complicated than that. The first step involves determining canon, which is a whole mess itself. Everyone seems to have a different definition of what counts as canon. Some people may view it as "the official continuation of a character's storyline", whereas other places (such as my own show, Smash Bracket) simplify Vs Battle canon as "any official representations of a character". Even once that is established though, the issue is still more complicated than you may think. What if a game is made by another company but has heavy involvement and endorsement from the original company? For example, one of the series I am most informed aboutβStarFoxβhas a crossover
I have every element of Scourge with that anointment. Let's see those Lumps.
Microstrip Filter design has been a skill I've been lacking and it's time that I get over my discomfort.
I'm mainly using these lecture notes and this example on YouTube to get me there but I know there are lots of resources.
As the title says I'm trying to convert a lumped element circuit of a 7th order Chebyshev (shut cap first). A problem I keep having with the examples I'm able to find is that the instructor will show the first several Kuroda identity equivalents and how to get there... but then they generally say something like "continue converting until you're done" and they skip ahead. I'm embarrassed to say that I've spent close to 20hrs trying to do this.
The problem I keep running into is that I keep ending up with (either) two shunt capacitors in series (where I want a unit segment in between) OR I get two unit segments in series (where I want a capacitor in between).
The problem starts when I get down to the last inductor. Imagine a pi network with 2 (equal) shunt capacitors and 1 inductor. I'm not able to transform that part in the way the design examples show to arrive at alternating segments and shunt capacitors.
This stuff is tricky and I feel like I'm missing some trick. At this point I've looked at it so long and tried many iterations from the beginning (of the entire circuit) but I keep getting something like what I described.
Once again I keep ending up with two shunt capacitors next to eachother or two microstrip elements.
1-Can I just stuff another Zo unit element in between the capacitors and be done?
2- This is a Chebyshev but what I'm trying to eventually design has the input and output traces in the middle of the capacitors (width wise) as opposed to what ends up being at the top in all the examples I can follow. Is this also a Chebyshev or is what I'm describing called something else?
EDIT: holy glob, why did I submit two of these????? CURSE YOU INTERNET!!!!

Although this tired old subject has been now been talked to death many times over on r/zen, and is no longer interesting, we still get trolls spreading religious misinformation on an almost daily basis.
As such, Iβve decided to collate all the crucial evidence in the βbig debateβ into one OP to make it easier to give people everything they need to know in one simple link, as opposed to repeating myself all the time.
Thus, welcome. This is a huge and tedious OP, but I think itβs necessary.

INTRODUCTION
Zen has nothing to do with seated mediation. On the contrary, Zen masters warned people against trying to engage in seated meditation for zen purposes.
The reason so many people believe there is a link between zen and meditation, for that βzenβ means βmeditationβ (it doesnβt) is that there are churches out there that have been actively spreading these lies and co-opting the zen name for their own weird nonsense doctrines for the last 1000 years.
Unfortunately for them, despite much being lost and purposefully destroyed, we still have a few records left from the real Zen Masters.
WHAT IS ZEN, THEN, IF NOT MEDITATION?
Zen is the name for an enlightenment school/lineage which was started in China by someone now referred to as Bodhidharma in around AD500. Unlike the various religions, philosophies and cosmologies at the time, Zen was radically different.
Zen is not a religion or a philosophy or certain practices or knowledge. Zen is, in a nutshell, about seeing your true nature. Itβs about recognising what βBuddha natureβ means. The penny drops, the cat is out of the bag. This is something that occurs in an instant. You see your nature and become a Buddha. This happens when all beliefs, ideas, concepts and practices are seen through as mere fleeting elements of One Mind.
Zen dialogues are all attempts at demonstrations and explorations of the dharma, as it were.
Buddha means βenlightened oneβ. The zen masters saw their enlightenment as the only true enlightenment, and the exact same one the βO.Gβ Buddha/Siddarta/Gautama/Sakyamuni experienced under the Bodhi tree. They retained the essence of it in their teaching, but Buddhists misunderstood and made a complex and nonsensical set of religions out of it, deferring to practices and beliefs, morality and the casting of the Buddha as a supernaturally gifted messiah figure.
Zenlightenment isnβt like that though:
