Stomping around Kilkee for the weekend, 20 years ago I remember tripping and face-planting on the beach while doing my best David Hasselhoff impression and getting a lung full of seawater. I think I'll leave the heroics out this time.

97 years ago on this day, the village of Kilkee was burned down by Black and Tans
In 1920, on this day, a unit of royal constables arrived at the village of Kilkee in Co Clare. In an arbitrary, "Reprisal" for IRA activity, they looted and destroyed numerous shops, homes, and other buildings as well as the physical assault of many civilians indiscriminately. In the end, they burned down the village, forcing the survivors to flee from their home.
