Didn't get a response in the woodworking sub so I will try here.
I am interested in making some cabinets using inset drawers and doors and wanted to learn a bit about expansion. I was planning on doing standard frame and panel using white oak, but then I saw this beautiful piece by /u/headyorganics and was blown away at how beautiful those panelless doors and sides are. This is clearly made by a serious professional, so I would like to learn why a piece like this is safe from expansion issues.
Here is my logic:
Let's say one of those side panels is 16" wide (I am guessing based on a 21" vanity depth). And let's go with a 25% humidity swing, which I don't think is unreasonable for a lot of the US and there may be even higher swings in some areas. The poster says he uses 3/32" spacing all around, which is 3/16" (.1875") of space along the width. Using this wood expansion calculator with white oak (.8125" thickness, 16" width) and using a relative humidity change at 70F of 25% to 50% and selecting "mixed" grain orientation which looks like rift sawn, the calculator shows a .18" increase in width, which is pretty much the entire spacing gap around the panel. Selecting quartersawn instead of "mixed" puts it at .122" of expansion, which I would think is risky as well in case the wood does not increase uniformly in size. From what I have read, finishes help slow down wood movement, but do not change the total amount of movement that will occur. No plywood appears to have been used here from what I can tell from the comments.
My only thought as to how this could be mitigated, other than ensuring it is in an environment that cannot experience a 25% RH swing, is that if you constructed the piece at an RH level somewhere in the middle or higher, like >=40% RH, then you lower the worry about the total expansion that will occur. (Or just ensure your wood is at its equilibrium moisture content that would occur at >=40% RH).
I am a total beginner just trying to the learn about the craft, so I appreciate any help! Thank you.
I have a UITableView the cell style is set to Inset Grouped. Nothing is customized even the cells I am using the default one. For some reason the first section header title is cut off from the top, the rest section headers are fine but the first one is cut off a little from the top.
How do I fix that?
Edit: this is how it looks https://imgur.com/a/K03uFWT
Edit 2: Solved by setting the header height to 20 instead of 18.
And if so, how would I go about doing that?

Absolutely one of my favorites which is why I just bought a fancier version. There's some dark spots on the clip. Everything else is perfect. Centering, action. factory edge.

As the title says, I'm looking to buy (Generic Staple) and was wondering if it's really worth the price. I mean it seems pretty strong doing (list abilities here) for only (insert mana cost here), but is that seriously worth the price tag? I mean it has the downside of (insert removal spell / counter here) so that's not very great, but Im just hoping my purchase is actually worth the amount listed
sorry if this has already been asked recently
I have made a cabinet that will have 2 doors on each side if the cabinet. My shelves inside are set back about 2 inches from the front. My question is, can you use inset hinges to have the doors set back slightly from the sides, or do they have to be set where the doors will be flush with the front of the cabinet?
Tandem made a boo boo and sent me autosoft 30s rather than autosoft 90s. Called them and they are overnighting the 90s and correcting the problem. I had to use a 30 and my absorption rate is absolutely horrendous. 300+ bg and riding rollercoaster all day long.
My question is, what are the benefits of the autosoft 30s? Does anyone actually use them? If so, why? Just curious
