Can we just briefly talk about what an absolute tragedy it is that SP never recorded a studio version of Gossamer? That upwards surging main riff is so good. This was a true Billy epic; loved hearing it at the Fillmore (multiple times) back in 2007.

Another one I really wish they had recorded was their heavy metal version of Sound of Silence. Billy had a real prog metal streak going on during these years - Superchrist showed a little of that, and I wish he had continued down this path.

I'm planning for the JMT and was looking into backpacks and was wondering about the Gossamer Gear Mariposa load capacity. The website says 35lbs MAX and it worries me that sometimes I will be having 35lbs plus. Has anyone used this pack past the weight capacity or around 35lbs? Thanks for responding, cheers.

Up for sale is a Gossamer Gear Gorilla 50 L pack in yellow. It's a Medium torso size and a Medium hip belt. 30.1 oz includes pack, belt, stay, and sit pad.

This pack has been used, but it has plenty of miles left. I bought this pack for winter and trips with a bear can, but realized it's not the pack for me. Super comfy and great at carrying loads, but you can't strap a bag of chips on top and I've come to realize that that's a deal breaker for me.

Most of the wear is in the repaired rips to the back pocket mesh. Also the hip belt has some patches of wear (example up close shown in photos). I didn't notice this as it was happening, seems like it all popped up all at once. Does not affect the carrying ability of the hip belt. Replacement hip belts at GG are easy to get if that's an issue for you. No modifications, all straps, buckles, and zippers functioning great.

Purchased this second hand. Impulse buy. Always wanted to try one but I never end up taking it out. Previous owner told me he used it for a couple AT section hikes. It’s still in really good condition. I purchased the bottle and phone pouches brand new. I don’t know what year this model is from and can’t find a size tag. I believe at one point they were one size fits all but I could be wrong. From straps to strap attachment it measures 18”.

So I am planning to hike the JMT and a lot of others recommend a trekking pole tent. I would love to try one out and was considering either the X-Mid 1 or the Gossamer Gear the one. Even something lighter or another budget option. I currently use the Nemo hornet 1p and never used trekking poles. Also is there any benefits to the other options other than weight?

OK, so, first post. Hopefully I've got the rules right.

I WTS a pair of lightly used Gossamer Gear LT4 Trekking Poles, 277 g /9.8 oz. These have a nylon wrist strap. My understanding is that you can save some weight by dispensing with the strap, but I haven't tried it without the straps; I don't know how much weight one would save. In the photo link, I have included photos of the attach point.

I mentioned this in another thread in this subreddit, and two people have already expressed interest. I'm making it official by posting it here and posting photos: Gossamer Gear LT4 photos.

To the best of my recall, these were about $200 new. I've had these for maybe 8 years, and they've mostly sat in the closet. I'm asking, I guess, $85, shipped (CONUS). Yell at me if that's completely out of line, but that's less than half of the original price, so that's how I arrived at the number.

Notes: I use pole straps when I hike like I learned cross country skiing, in other words to bear weight and not have to use grip strength alone. These straps can kinda sorta do that, but they're not great for it due to the way they're attached, and the adjustment slips a bit from time to time, so one has to periodically stop and tighten the straps. Also, the straps are fairly lightweight woven nylon. The way they attach to the pole puts a bit of strain on the point where the straps attach toward your body. There may be some wear here already. I don't think it's even noticeable, but look at the photos. The straps are more than adequate for retention (which is really what these are best for) but less than ideal if you want them to bear weight (in my opinion). On the other hand, these poles are noticeably lighter than my aluminum Leki poles (that have the type of straps I like).

Fair warning: Gossamer Gear has discontinued this model. They now sell LT5's which are a three section pole. LT4's (what is for sale here) have two sections. I don't think the sections are interchangeable, but a) the lower section and b) the tip may be. You'd have to research this yourself. Carbon fiber poles do break from time to time.

Gossamer Gear LT5 trekking poles - $145 9.2 oz for the pair. Includes 2 poles (4.6 oz each), 2 baskets (0.5 oz pair), and 2 straps (0.8 oz pair).
