A list of puns related to "Glyceryl Trinitrate"
Glyceryl Trinitrate is found in various medications. How does this cause headaches when applied to the skin or ingested?
I was watching Falling Skies recently and one of the characters was using nitroglycerin as a medicine. After a quick glance of the Wikipedia article, I was wondering which use came first, the weaponization or the medical treatment. No matter what the order is, I'm sure it was an interesting discussion.
Did a doctor give it as a medicine for heart disease and then someone caught it on fire or was it the other way around where someone was playing with their medication? Furthermore, is there a history of combustible compounds having other uses that are surprising or is nitroglycerin an anomaly?
Hello everyone, I am 30 yr old male from the UK and this is the first time ive ever posted on this website at all.
First off, this thread helped me so much through the darkest, hardest days. I spent many an hour with my face in a pillow, screaming, arse in the air and when I could I would look up and scroll through the posts on this to reassure myself I wasn't the only one.
So, I am now 8 weeks tomorrow absolutely pain free and I know this because I kept a diary of literally everything that was going. I thought now would be a good time to make my first ever reddit post to offer some hope to those who are going through the same hell that I did.
My story started on 3rd November 2020. I had a horrible case of norovirus (chronic diarrhea) for about 5 days before, after that i was pretty clogged up and ended up passing a massive BM after not being able to go to the toilet for about three days. I properly forced it out, worrying that if I left the poo in me any longer, I would make myself ill again or something. How wrong I was. What followed was what we all here have been through, tear, blood, pain. I have had haemorrhoids pretty much on and off for the last decade or so, so at first I just thought I had a real bad case of that. A few days after the initial tear and still thinking it was haemorrhoids I went for a walk, which usually helps me with discomfort. This pain though was so bad that I had to run home and thus began the daily cycle of screaming into a pillow for 2 hours.
Another thing is the pain schedule was a little different for me. I felt a small amount of pain during a BM, say that was at 10am, but it wasn't until around 2pm that the real pain would kick in, rendering me immobile until about 8pm. The only silver lining of this was that due to the pandemic I wasn't in work, because having to serve people in a cafe and spending all day on my feet during this would have been horrendous. God bless my girlfriend for helping me through this as well. I literally couldnt do anything. The amount of times I would have to give up on walks, or leave her to do the grocery shopping is outrageous. It is 100% the hardest thing so far in my life I have had to get through medically. Basic things become such a horrible chore.
Anyway, sorry if this is a bit of a ramble, ill try and cut to the chase of what really helped me. I tried all sorts, aloe vera gel, vaseline, haemorrhoid cream etc, but over time and reading this website A LOT, I managed to figure o

β The endothelium is integral to the maintenance of vascular health in humans, and advancing age and low testosterone levels are associated with endothelial dysfunction in men. We compared the impacts of testosterone and exercise training, alone and in combination, on endothelium-dependent flow-mediated dilation % and endothelium-independent glyceryl trinitrate % responses. In this 2Γ2 factorial 12-week randomized controlled trial, 80 men aged 50 to 70 years with waist girth β₯95 cm and low-normal serum testosterone levels (6β14 nmol/L) were randomized to transdermal AndroForte5 (testosterone 5.0% w/v, 100 mg/2 mL; testosterone), or matching placebo; and to supervised centre-based exercise or no additional exercise. Testosterone increased serum testosterone levels (testosteroneΓtime, P=0.003) to the extent that 62% of subjects in testosterone groups increased levels to >14 nmol/L, whereas placebo treatment had no impact on testosterone levels. Exercise training increased flow-mediated dilation % (exerciseΓtime, P=0.033; testosterone+exercise: +0.5, placebo+exercise: +1.0 versus testosterone+no additional exercise: β0.7, placebo+no additional exercise: +0.2%), whereas testosterone did not impact flow-mediated dilation, nor was it additive to exercise (all P>0.05). There were no significant exercise or drug main effects on glyceryl trinitrate responses (all P>0.05). Exercise training improved endothelium-dependent vasodilator function, whereas administration of testosterone at therapeutic doses did not impact flow-mediated dilation % or add to the exercise benefit. Vascular smooth muscle sensitivity to nitric oxide was not modified by exercise, testosterone, or their combination. In middle-to-older-aged men with central adiposity and low/normal testosterone levels, we observed no evidence that testosterone added to the beneficial impact of exercise on vascular function and health.β

Hey guys! Last Tuesday I woke up with the worst pain in my butt and pelvic region, scheduled an appointment for the next day, and the surgeon diagnosed it as an anal fissure. I have all the symptoms you guys are describing, including now after a few days some constipation and dysuria due to being so scared to have BM, and honestly it feels like Iβm constantly being stabbed. The doctor said it was so bad that it wouldnβt be worth it to go down the glyceryl trinitrate / Rectogesic route although Iβd be free to do so if I wished.
LASER SURGERY: He suggested I get a new kind of treatment which is laser fissurectomy. It doesnβt even touch the inner sphincter so chances of incontinence are zero. Iβve read a research paper on it and the results sound amazing. The pain would immediately improve (please!) and over a few months the fissure would completely be healed. Iβm gonna go through with it, considering the alternative is a recurring chronic fissure that never fully heals.
LIS VS Sphincteromy: By the way, from what Iβve gathered, the lateral internal sphincterotomy (LIS) and procedures which involve cutting the inner sphincter have pretty much been phased out in most western countries. To quote a research paper, βin countries like France, the fissurectomy has been the standard of care for a chronic anal fissure for a long timeβ. So even without the βlaserβ component of the surgery, a fissurectomy seems to be a better choice than an LIS.
Thankfully I live in a country with a relatively great, but importantly free healthcare system. I donβt know what Iβd do if I lived in the US, and I feel so sorry reading all your posts. :(
INITIAL MISDIAGNOSIS: Around last November I noticed a skin tag on my butthole, went to a surgeon who said it was nothing at all and gave me a hemorrhoid creme which probably made things worse. NEVER use hemorrhoids creme on fissures, it restricts blood flow. I also frequently suffer from diarrhea and my eating habits have not been the best. Other than the skin tag and discomfort during anal play, the fissure gave me absolutely no symptoms. So really the misdiagnosis made things worse because I assumed everything was fine with my butthole and just went ham with it.
ANAL: Iβm bisexual 21M. Iβve only started properly trying anal a year ago, never got through with it more than a few times cause I always had pain during sex and bleeding post-anal which I attributed to just being normal (not true, anal is not supposed to hur

Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.

So Iβve had a few small tears in the past, one requiring some treatment by a proctologist to help the healing. Itβs been a while but I got another one at the start of December because I didnβt take it slow enough when bottoming.
I laid off it for a few weeks and tried again with a mate on New Years but it seems to have triggered the fissure again. Itβs gotten me pretty depressed because I canβt do something I really enjoy and feel pretty isolated not knowing if itβs a shared experience with other 20-something year olds.
Anyway, how long should I wait before I try again? Does anyone have much experience with fissures? This one seems pretty βup thereβ so I canβt see anything or feel a sting, just a bit of an ache from time to time... but that could be because I train legs a lot too.

Hi all, I am a global supply chain exec at a electronics manufacturing firm and a fellow gout sufferer. I don't want to cause undue concern, I just want to inform. If you have been paying attention, you all know about the Coronasvirus pandemic (it's not really a pandemic yet) and the effects that it is having on the global supply chain. Gout suffers should be aware that China is a major producer of allopurinol for the world market and cannot and will not be shipping for at least another month possibly longer. If you prescription is low, I would consider refilling now.
edit: I SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED THIS TO BEGIN WITH, SORRY:
Here is a list of some of the drugs manufactured in China; this list does NOT include drugs that simply require ingredients made in China, but please understand that that supply chain will also likely be impacted. While any prescription drug may fall victim to shortages in the coming months, these are the most likely candidates. If necessary, please speak to your doctors if you require any of the listed below. If you know you depend on any of the OTC listed, the time to stock up is NOW.
Also, people with diabetes: Insulin is made in Europe and the US, however, the syringes, needles, pens, and pumps are made in China. Plan accordingly.
