A list of puns related to "Germaine Greer"
/uj I took a class about trans people and the media and almost the first thing the cis professor did was recommend a book by a TERF
All the recent transhate. All the past transhate. The backlash and rollback as we gain more recognition and human rights. Netflix, BBC, the conservative states, health care refusals, bath room bills, all the trolls filling the r/arethecisok sub.
Sometimes my ears are ringing because of the perceived multitude of hate, bigotry and lies.
But I know this is not all that is happening. This is a very loud and certainly influential group of individuals. But there is much more going on. We are living, we are striving, we are shining - and we support ourselves, both publicly, as well as privately.
And the haters are on the absolute wrong side of the tracks. They scream and fight, because they continuously loose support in the public sphere, and because they feel (or know), that they are going to loose their unjust privileges.
-----
This is not a big question, or a coin with two equal sides.
There is people fighting for their human rights and bare life.
&
There is people defending their privileges and fighting against others who are more oppressed.
-----
And no, Karen, the first category is not you. And seriously, you pseudo feminist, pseudo lesbian supporting comedians and other clowns, it is not you either. Seriously?
History is very clear about this, no matter what the people reproducing different shades of enmity and fascism might say.
It is ever so easy: Your liberty, freedom, rights and safety is bound to the oppression of, or neglect of more vulnerable people? Than your fight is utterly wrong. Plain false. Always has been. Always will be.
-----
But I also absolutely still hope that most women and BIPoC and cis homosexuals and all, who are not fully accomodated by the systems of oppression, come together and will understand sooner or later - that if we join forces for intersectional emancipation, we will sstart the lasting dismantling of patriarchy (and all systems of oppression)!
The fascists are not gonna disappear by themselves.
But we are gonna fight them. By any means necessary, evil will not win.
The future is not cis, hetero and white.
The future is gay, lesbian, brown and black. The future is non-binary, and trans and the future is female.
Love.

I love this quote from Germaine, it's a harsh truth and it hurts being alone sometimes. But like Germaine, we can make it on our own! Better to learn to love yourself than beg for love from the population that seems to hate us simply for being women.

I am interested in Hamlet, and my teacher has introduced us to Germaine Greer's criticism and argument regarding Hamlet and his delay in getting his revenge. She only provided a small excerpt, so I was wondering if someone knew where I could find her full argument.
For context, Iβm a trans man. Some time ago I was stupid enough to watch a Germaine Greer interview on Channel 4 News (UK). She pretty much said she genuinely felt sorry for how trans men never look like cis men - not even when they grew full beards. This hurt me to the core.
Some time later, Contrapointsβ Gender Critical video came out. Itβs opens with a passage from Greerβs book The Female Eunuch read aloud by Theryn Meyer. This passage is horribly transphobic and exposes just how much Greer actually hates trans people. It made me realise Greerβs βsympathyβ towards trans people meant nothing. Her words could no longer hold power over me.
While I donβt agree with Contrapoints on everything, exposing Germaine Greer was personally one of the best things she has done for me as trans person. For this I am incredibly thankful.
Edit: I just realised the passage wasnβt from the Female Eunuch specifically - it just relates to the day this book was released in the US
I am loving this book about Menopause subtitled "Women, Ageing and the Menopause". It was originally written in 1991 but she updated it substantially in 2018. It is very comprehensive if you like to dig deep into the history, the medical opinions and pretty much any issue surrounding this topic. A fascinating read especially when you are in the midst of experiencing a lot of what she is referring to.
This is a thing I've been thinking about for a while and I'm not quite sure what to make of it. Maybe just because it's such a strong statement.
It's not hard, at all, to notice misogyny manifesting itself pretty much everywhere in society - entertainment, the internet, language, etc... that's nothing new. But the thing that bothers me is - how does this relate to the behaviour and attitudes of individual men who create and consume this stuff? I suppose you could say "don't generalise" but when we've all been fed these sorts of ideas... well. Just browsing Reddit for example, it's pretty damn easy to come across a woman being treated quite harshly or complaints about feminism or false rape accusations or whatever to crop up. Or if you take a look at the Gillette ad - the like/dislike ratio is overwhelmingly negative in response to what were some pretty mild requests. Or how women are treated in any male-dominated area really - it's the pervasiveness and magnitude of these things that certainly encourage me to agree with the aforementioned quote.
You could say that that's just the nature of the internet, sure - but these are still, after all, real people behind the screens who share those opinions. So it's more a case of men holding quite misogynistic opinions that they might just be too scared to share out in the open. Maybe you could say that the types of people to use Reddit frequently or to come across the Gillette video or who play video games are more misogynistic than people who spend more time doing "real life" stuff, but is that true? It's possible that you get people who just secretly harbour these opinions rather than sharing them anywhere. And that doesn't really disprove the question of "just how misogynistic are men really?".
Or if you take the example of a man who gets off on the idea of slapping or choking women. You could say that's just a turn-on, it's all fun and games provided there's consent involved, but what kind of hatred is behind that? What about the porn industry as a whole? I don't know how much I agree with radical feminists but their objections to porn are at least somewhat valid imo - it's not unthinkable that this kind of sexual violence towards women displayed as being "fun" and "sexy" perpetuates misogyny. What about rap music? There was a study done that suggested that listening to rap music increases aggression towards women - and this kind of stuff being popular in our society especially when considering things such a

Just in case anyone is still under the impression that Channel 4 actually want to make trans people's lives any better and aren't just doing it for the controversy views.
