A list of puns related to "George Ellery Hale"
George Ellery Hale (June 29, 1868 β February 21, 1938) was American solar astronomer best known for his discovery of magnetic fields in sunspots, and the planning/construction of many world-leading telescopes. He claimed to have regular visits from an Elf which advised him on the best placements for the Telescope Observatories, technological information and suggestions on building plans. His biographer now saying the Elf stuff was "misunderstanding".
He was a very smart person, demonstrating that sunspots are the seat of strong magnetic fields, and that their polarity reveals striking spatial and temporal regularities that betray the presence of a well-organized, large-scale magnetic field in the solar interior. He was in correspondence with Albert Einstein sharing ideas back and forth and even stunned Einstein with evidence of an expanding cosmos.
In passing years the information about George Ellery Hales "little elf" advisor has been slowly swept away and claimed to be "debunked", citing that it was just schizophrenic thinking, depression, insomnia, physiological problems and even a 'misunderstanding' by his biographer.
However, he originally claimed to have regular visits by this elf advisor.
It is thought that schizophrenic thinking, depression, insomnia, physiological problems would 'debunk' any claims of an seeing/conversing a real entity. Perhaps being in those psychological/mind states are a factor in being able to conceive the entities presence.
It similar to when people say "of course you saw XYZ entity, you were on drugs, or depressed, or haven't slept for days". Maybe that's just what it takes to slide your mind into the open position to come in contact with such things easier.
Anything truly alien to us would not be comprehensible except under circumstances in which the mind truly open to receiving.
You may not see an elf unless you do DMT, have intense depression or stay up 7 days with no sleep etc. "Its just a hallucination" sure, could be true, however, on some level of reality that doesn't matter if the perceived entity or hallucination is giving you good info. Higher or inter dimensional being may use the hallucinatory state in the human mind as a informational exchange medium. If they are too alien/otherworldly to be perceive by our current mind states perhaps a way for them to be seen/heard is through a projection into hallucination. We have nothing in our minds that can conceive in any way shape or form these entities,

Welcome, pepinos! This post is to discuss the first selection for Pepino Book Club, People Like Her by Ellery Lloyd. Thanks for the suggestion, u/cloverdilly1920!
I am here to start the post, and provide a few topics for discussion in the comments below. I would love it if some other pepinos can post their questions/topics in a comment so we can all get into some lively discussions!
I am not tech savvy, so I will not be linking to a discord, but of course any interested pepinos can post anything they would like. I only ask that per u/McNasty420, we keep this very anonymous, especially if anyone wants to chat online about the book. Someone from Alcea actually dropped into a video chat with some pepinos right after MariLu arrived, just to spy on people. So keep yourselves safe!
Next month's selection is Beautiful World, Where Are You? by Sally Hoope
... keep reading on reddit β‘I remember reading this sometime in the 1980s, though the story might have been older. It was probably a short story, either in an anthology, or more likely a magazine (my older brother had a lot of Ellery Queen and Asimov type magazines I would read as a kid).
A man wants to kill someone, probably his wife, although it also could've been someone like a business partner. His plan to get away with it is to plead insanity, so he starts laying the groundwork for that before committing the murder by faking a breakdown, maybe even gets himself hospitalized or seeks psychiatric treatment for his fake nervous breakdown. Things I think I remember him doing: maybe slapping his secretary, and throwing a typewriter out the office window. I don't remember much else.
