This is just my opinion (but, it's an informed one) having used a FW interface through 2021. The quick dismissal of anything firewire is not entirely without reason, however it's still not one I agree with. I own two separate USB interfaces, one a Focusrite 2i4 2nd Gen and the other a Steinberg UR-RT2--both are fine audio interfaces for a home studio recording setup, but both are limited in I/O capacity. If I wanted to move up to something more substantial with like brands, I was reasonably looking in the $400+ range. However, after finding a 10x10 firestudio project for less than $80 in great condition, I said why not.
As the voice of contention I actually recommend a used FW interface even in 2021 for certain people:-Tech is not beyond dead as many say--I plug and played a PCI-E FW card and the Firestudio worked without any issues on a Windows 10 PC in all of my DAWs. It's really not difficult...just get a card, plug it in your mobo...plug in the firewire...it's supported bro...nothing is crashing. Everything is working.
-You'll never find a USB interface with similar I/O capability at the same cost...not even double the cost. If you're like me and want to route several channels in and out during mixdown for outboard gear and/or outboard analog mixing...good luck doing so with a USB interface for under $500 for a similarly reputable brand (Focusrite, Steinberg, Presonus USB). 10 I/Os for less than $80.
-In terms of ADC and DAC audio quality...good luck finding any perceptible difference in the consumer grade interfaces in the last decade anyway. The only thing that results in real signal differences nowadays are the preamps on interfaces, and certainly the preamps on the firestudio are far from jaw dropping--however, they are clean and noise-free. There's certainly close to no difference between the Focusrite 2i4 and this old firestudio...the focusrite still costs more and has 5-fold less inputs available.
-Simply, for the person who is on a budget (or would rather allocate their budget to more analog outboard gear), but needs as many I/Os for cheap...Firewire is still viable in 2021; this is assuming you know how to plug a PCI-E card into your motherboard and download drivers. It's not like the tech is suddenly going to be wiped from the face of Earth tomorrow--you have years left on these.
I have a Canon ZR60 MiniDV Camcorder with firewire.
I have 2015, 2017 and 2019 MacBook Pros. I am trying to capture to Final Cut Pro.
The camera appears but I am not able to press the place or rewind buttons within FCPX.
I am using the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 into a Thunderbolt 2 to Firewire 800 adapter
Into a Firewire 800 to 4 pin cable.
I am able to use the Thunderbolt 2 port on the 2015 MacBook successfully.
Just to make sure the Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter words I connected a Thunderbolt 2
harddrive and it works fine.
I have ordered a new set of Thunderbolt adapters and firewire cable, same result.
Apple support offered no assistance or willingness to help troubleshoot.
I saw a YouTube video that showed this working.
Has anyone been able to accomplish this?
I was told by a hardware vendor they are no longer supporting drivers because Apple discontinued FireWire 800 support in Monterey. Is this true?

Apologies in advance for the noob question and I know that the gear in question is ancient however, I recently acquired through good ebay hunting a Presonus Firepod FP10 which I am looking to use for whole band recordings, however I spotted a M-Audio Profire 2626 possibly going for dirt cheap as well and I'm wondering is it possible to daisy chain these two to give me 16 inputs via firewire? Going into a mac running reaper if that makes any difference. Cheers guys!
Any FireWire reps out there? Your boards are not being made very well. This thing has essentially just been in a cool and dry closet in a board bag for about a year.
Can’t figure how to attach photos but the board essentially has these pink orangish discoloration marks everywhere.
UPDATE: I WAS ANLE TO GET IN TOUCH WITH FIREWIRE VIA THE SHOP I PURCHASED FROM. TURNS OUT THE BOARD WAS PART OF A BAD BATCH THAT HAD “CONTAMINATION ISSUES”. SO IF YOU HAVE THIS HAPPEN, WORTH REACHING OUT. THIS WAS OVER A YEAR AFTER PURCHASE. They said they will be getting a new board to me in a month or two. Very satisfied how they are taking care of the issue.

My old PC had a motherboard that had a IEEE 1394 port but my new one doesn't
EDIT: Thanks for suggestions, ordered "Padarsey PCIe 3 Ports 1394A Firewire Expansion Card, PCI Express (1X) to External IEEE 1394 Adapter Controller (2 x 6 Pin + 1 x 4 Pin) with Low Profile Bracket for Desktop PC and DV Connection" from Amazon and got it working
So I have a very specific problem, I'm trying to connect my Hasselblad with P30+ Back to my MacBook with Thunderbolt 3 Ports via a TB3 to TB2 adapter then TB2 to FW800 adapter (both adapters original apple) daisy chain. Now every version of C1 since 14.0 was not working for me with firewire anyways even on my old macbook, so I now use Version 13 or CaptureOne 20. When I open the application, with the digital back set to battery power and without MemoryCard inside the computer and C1 recognizes the camera and the backpiece just fine with this wiered adapter daisy chain, BUT once I click the shutter on my camera it seems to go through but then the captured image seems to get lost in transit and the little orange ring that goes around the digital shutter button in C1 gets stuck, then when I go to close the app it gives me a prompt saying that the programm still is running a picture import from the digi back when the actual shutter click was 5mins ago. I'll try to attach some screenshots of whats going on. Hopefully someone here can help me. :)
Well here's my try #2 at this; if this does well and people like it then I'll consider keeping it in stock so people can buy it. If it doesn't do super well then this will be a one time run thing like the last time I made these.

I decided to make a pcb this time, and that makes it less effort to assemble. It can do line out (3.5mm jack not soldered on in the above picture), "firewire" charging via USB PD, and usb sync via USB C.
I was thinking of leaving this as it is and not make a plastic case for it. I don't think it's necessary and I don't see this to be a daily carry around tool, but some used once in a while, or perpetually attached to a cable tethtered to the wall to charge 3rd gen classics.
If popular, then a smaller version could be made but there will be limits because usb ports and 3.5mm receptacles take up quite a bit of room.
What do you guys think? Would any of you be interested in getting one? With what configuration (with 3.5mm line out, usb syncing)? Would you prefer it to be available all soldered together, or as an easy to solder, diy kit (cheaper)?
Anything else you would want added to such an adapter?

As the title says, is it possible.
I have a custom built PC that I didn't build myself (got it custom built by a shop). How easy would it be for me to add a firewire port for vhs/mini DV conversion? From what I can see it's just a little board you slot in but is there more to it than that? How can I tell if my PC has the right slot for it? I'm relatively logical/tehnical minded but not very experienced with computers.

I recently purchased a Logitech mm50 iPod Speaker Dock for $6 at Goodwill. It has decent sound for a very small portable speaker dock. It also has its own internal rechargeable battery and can run off either AC or its battery. When plugged into AC it charges its own battery and also the iPod that is mounted on the dock. Today, much to my surprise, I discovered that it delivers power to its 30 pin dock via Firewire, not USB. It charged my 40GB 3rd Gen. I also have a 5th Gen and a 7th Gen that each have a problem with their dock ports such that they will only charge via USB and not Firewire, and neither of them will charge when connected to the mm50. So it's definitely charging via Firewire. As well, there is a 30 pin Dock port on the back that can be connected to a computer for syncing via Firewire or USB. This is a very handy little item.
Does anyone ride this board? Thoughts?
Purchased myself an iPod video off of eBay, and while I was at it I got a compatible iTrip and iPod AV connection kit.
Does the dock included in that kit work with FireWire? Its the one with the IR sensor on the front and has S-Video on the back. The computer that lives in my stereo rack and hosts all of my media has a FireWire port on it, and its my understanding that it would charge the iPod a bit faster and it would save me a USB port.

Hey I'm looking into getting a Firewire Tomo Evo 5'6"x 19 3/4" x 2 9/16" (32.2L) and wanted some recs or advice. I'm about 5'1" 100lbs average build and kind of moving away from 8' wavestorm, borrowing a 5'8" fish and turning into waves. The beach I go to has all types of waves between rolling and barreling, 2'-8' waves but usually around 2-6'. So any advice would be appreciated :)
I'd like to shoot with my Phase One P30+ digital back using a tethered FireWire connection, but my current laptop doesn't include any compatible FireWire hardware.
Since FireWire has been discontinued, I'd likely need to get a legacy laptop or MacBook that is compatible. Does anyone have recommendations? Preferably something with 8GB of RAM so I could use still Capture One 20 or higher without hiccups.

I have been working with MiniDVD disc camcorders for a few years and I recently began using a tape camcorder (Canon ZR40). I loaded a new tape, got some footage, and then found that I had no way to transport it to my MacBook. So I bought this cord off of Amazon, which, in retrospect, looks extremely shady. Every Youtube tutorial I watch etc they're using like 3 converters to get the signal to their MacBook, while I have this USB/firewire combo cord that requires no converter except a USB to USB C one. I will admit that I don't know anything about cables.
I can't get any footage onto my Mac; I tried with Quicktime, iMovie, and Premiere. They simply do not detect the camcorder. It does not come up at all when I check System Information. 😔
HOWEVER, the camcorder knows that it's connected to something, because the "DV IN" message is coming up. This is giving me hope. Maybe there's something wrong that isn't cord-related? How stupid am I for buying this product? What can I do/buy to get this footage on my computer?
