[HELP] Book recommendations for a fan of Armitage, Ferlinghetti, and Bukowski.

Hi all, l'm making it my mission to read more individual poetry books (not 'best of' collections) and am looking for some of your suggestions.

Upon reflection, I've realised that I've been spending a lot less time with a book in my hands then before, so I'm looking to change that. I've listed above some of the poets I've read a lot of, but it's probably worth mentioning that I'm not much interested in Rupi Kaur's style of poetry.

Hope to read some of your favourites soon! :D

[Poem]Poetry as Insurgent Art [I am signaling you through the flames] Lawrence Ferlinghetti - 1919-2021

I am signaling you through the flames.

The North Pole is not where it used to be.

Manifest Destiny is no longer manifest.

Civilization self-destructs.

Nemesis is knocking at the door.

What are poets for, in such an age?

What is the use of poetry?

The state of the world calls out for poetry to save it.

If you would be a poet, create works capable of

answering the challenge of apocalyptic times, even

if this meaning sounds apocalyptic.

You are Whitman, you are Poe, you are Mark Twain,

you are Emily Dickinson and Edna St. Vincent Millay,

you are Neruda and Mayakovsky and Pasolini, you

are an American or a non-American, you can

conquer the conquerors with words....

Lawrence Ferlinghetti, San Francisco poet

The Changing Light

Lawrence Ferlinghetti - 1919-2021

The changing light at San Francisco

is none of your East Coast light

none of your

pearly light of Paris

The light of San Francisco

is a sea light

an island light

And the light of fog

blanketing the hills

drifting in at night

through the Golden Gate

to lie on the city at dawn

And then the halcyon late mornings

after the fog burns off

and the sun paints white houses

with the sea light of Greece

with sharp clean shadows

making the town look like

it had just been painted

But the wind comes up at four o’clock

sweeping the hills

And then the veil of light of early evening

And then another scrim

when the new night fog

floats in

And in that vale of light

the city drifts

anchorless upon the ocean

From The Guardian: Lawrence Ferlinghetti Has Crossed Over

San Francisco poet, publisher, and bookseller Lawrence Ferlinghetti has crossed over. Ferlinghetti played a notable part in the post WWII San Francisco scene. While not Pagan to my knowledge, he contributed--through City Lights Bookstore and defending controversial artists and writers and other activities--to the overall outlook that supported the development of a thriving Pagan and Witch community in Northern California. Including 3 Traditions--Anderson Feri, N.R.O.O.G.D., and Reclaiming--founded there.

[POEM] Constantly Risking Absurdity by Lawrence Ferlinghetti

Constantly risking absurdity

and death

whenever he performs

of his audience

the poet like an acrobat

climbs on rime

to a high wire of his own making

and balancing on eyebeams

above a sea of faces

paces his way

to the other side of day

performing entrechats

and sleight-of-foot tricks

and other high theatrics

and all without mistaking

any thing

for what it may not be

For he's the super realist

who must perforce perceive

taut truth

before the taking of each stance or step

in his supposed advance

toward that still higher perch

where Beauty stands and waits

with gravity

to start her death-defying leap

And he

Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Beat Poet And Small Press Publisher, Dies At 101

An original and liberating force in American publishing has passed. To honor Ferlinghetti, spend a day or two not talking about agents or finding a New York publisher. Instead, consider what you can do to publish yourself or start a press: 'Literary critic Gerald Nicosia says Ferlinghetti's two greatest accomplishments were fighting censorship, and inaugurating a small press revolution.

"Up until that point, getting published was a difficult thing," Nicosia says. "If you were a radical, an innovative writer, you would be rebuffed by New York, by mainstream publishers. By creating this press out of nothing β€” City Lights Press β€” he said: Look, you don't need these big publishers in New York. You can do it, and you can get the books out, and not only that, you can make waves."

It feels like the Beats are growing less relevant by the day (not entirely for the wrong reasons - casual racism and misogyny, 20th century "America is Great" idealism that means nothing to a millennial like me, etc.), but I thought about Gibby when I saw that Ferlinghetti died today.
