I just bought this book of Greek Hymns. The poems/hymns were accompanied with a lyre. I bought it at the City Lights bookstore in San Francisco. π΅π¬π·

It's the 1880s. I'm a Russian school teacher and I want to buy a copy of The Brothers Karamazov. How much does it cost? Do I need to travel to a large city to find a bookstore? How easily can I find this (or any) particular book for sale?
Or if this question is too specific, generally speaking, what was the book market like in the late 19th century in Europe? Would a literate person of modest means (e.g, a teacher or store clerk) be able to easily afford and shop for contemporary books? Or were books still a bit of a luxury at this time?

Old Mate Surfer stuck alone in iso - any op-shops / used bookstores have surfing magazines I can buy & drop by for him? South side of city.
As title says. Past few days I've searched a few op-shops / used bookstores, no luck as yet. Just wondering if anyone's seen a stack of surf mags somewhere? Thanks!

I am the poet, painter, pacifist, publisher, defender of free speech, and owner of San Franciscoβs City Lights bookstore, Lawrence Ferlinghetti. AMA!
Hello Reddit and fellow bibliophiles! Lawrence Ferlinghetti here. In September, I published Writing Across the Landscape: Travel Journals 1960-2013, which tells the story of my life through a lifetime of travel and, at 96 years of age, is the closest Iβll ever get to writing a memoir. With the help of my publisher, Iβll be answering questions for an hour or so starting at 2PM EST.

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you! :)

City Lights Bookstore Spending Spree
I have finally fulfilled a dream of mine and visited City Lights Bookstore in San Francisco! I went on a bit of a spending spree to celebrate. Usually I only buy one or two books at a bookstore at a time, but City Lights has a great selection of literature so I bought four books:
- San Francisco Poems by Lawrence Ferlinghetti
- Overtime by Philip Whalen (Zen poet)
- Seven Guitars by August Wilson (Pittsburgh playwright from my home state)
- One Hundred Poems From The Japanese by Kenneth Rexroth
The Kenneth Rexroth book was hard to find. It was shelved with the Asian Classics in the basement and not in the general poetry section upstairs. I read a biography of Rexroth before my trip and a book of his poetry which has been sitting on my bookshelf for years unread. I found the Kenneth Rexroth Alley in North Beach.

I also visited the Beat Museum and had lunch at Caffe Trieste.

One of my earliest memories as a little kid was this bookstore with neon lights around East Memphis. I never got to go again or knew exactly where it was. It's disappointing how many businesses i used to visit as a little kid don't exist anymore.

[Offer] [US] Seven postcards from City Lights bookstore in San Francisco
Hey everyone,
Fresh from a rack in the beat poetry section, I have seven postcards that I got from City Lights bookstore in SF, featuring photos of famous writers. I suppose that place put me in a writerly mood or something; but in any case the first seven of you to respond get one! I'm going to bed now; will probably send these out today or tomorrow. Cheers!

Iβm trying to collect some classic literature but I donβt want to just rely on Barnes and noble! Anywhere around is fine but bonus if itβs around downtown, midtown, or east sac!

Small Manga/Light Novel Bookstore always at least 10% off MSRP
I'm not sure if it's allowed to post but I think this might count as a mangadeal?
I'm opening up a small online bookstore, named MangaHubWA (since im a WA based store). If you're ever looking for something out of stock feel free to hit me up and let me see what I can do for you! I can get some information from my distributor for things like stock information (in stock/out of stock/out of print) and sometimes even estimated arrival dates! I'm super open to doing custom orders where I give you discounts based on how much you're ordering (10-25%) I can also (while still virtual) show you any products I have listed on my store. I can't be cheaper than rightstuf but I'm planning on having my products at least always 10% off MSRP.
I have confirmed trades on r/mangaswap and I have a decent amount of ebay sales (store name: mangahubwa) , so I'm hoping it's easier to trust my store. That said, I can also do paypal goods and services if you'd feel more comfortable buying anything from my site that way. Thanks for looking, heres the site link.
