A post in defense of Mentors leaving Mentor roulettes prematurely and other Mentor-related topics (Long text warning)

Good morning/afternoon/evening/night to whoever might be reading this.

As the title of this post insinuated, I would like to offer my 2 gil regarding the Mentor system and Mentors. I will not claim that my views are those of the majority of the playerbase, nor that they are unique. Nevertheless, I would like to say some stuff regarding it as I see quite a few other reddit posters doing the same.

Feel free to agree or disagree to your heart's content, I am full aware that I will, in all likelyhood, not change anyone's mind nor is that truly my aim of this post. I simply want to offer my own thoughts on the matter.

A bit of background: I myself play on the Chaos Datacenter (Europe) and I have been a Battle Mentor in FFXIV for a period of a few months (Dec2019-Mar2020) and I have 1000 succesfull Mentor Roulettes under my belt. My reason for unlocking mentor status and participating in the Mentor Roulette was not to obtain the (Burger King) Crown, but simply to obtain the Dragon Monocle at 1000 successful Mentor Roulettes.
I guess being a fulltime Hrotghar will make anybody desperate for any headgear that is visible on one's face (and the monocle is really fancy, I do recommend it :3 ).
So while my reason is purely for material gain, I do consider being able to help others as a neat bonus.

I will now provide certain statements (in Bold writing) and will explain/defend/argue in this post in no particular order. Some of these points might blend into each other, but i prefer to do it like this to avoid walls of text (and i'm relatively new to posting on Reddit so my post structure might leave much to be desired, my apologies in advance).

1) It is perfectly fine for a Mentor to leave a Mentor Roulette (instantly) if he or she wants to.

Now i believe that most people who have had the joy and/or horror to play alongside a Mentor in (EX) content will be familiar with the following scenario: the Mentor instantly leaves without uttering as much as a word.
I know this to be true as I myself have done this on numerous occasions, but only really for certain EX fights (ARR).

As a Mentor, it is one's goal (or duty/obligation/raison d'Γͺtre depending on who you ask) to assist those in Mentor Roulette to clear the Duty in which they are in. These Duties can range from simple Guildhests, to dungeons, to Castrum Meridianum/Praetorium, to EX fights. As you can see this is quite an extensive list of content into which a Mentor can be dropped. Th

What is your favorite episode that is not a season finale and why?

Throughout this series, the season finales are always my favorite episodes because they have so much tension, excitement, and plot build up. However, I think it is really interesting to discuss favorite episodes that are not season finales.

My personal favorite non-season finale episode in Book 1, Episode 8: When Extremes Meet. There are many reasons why this episode is so well done in my opinion. For starters, this episode really delves deep into the differences between non-benders and benders in this universe, and the immense privilege and power that benders have in this society. Especially how the bender-majority administration of the city (i.e. Council is solely made of benders, police are all benders, and benders have more job opportunities) are so quick to assume that all non-benders are equalists. Unfortunately, many of the issues that are found in "When Extremes Meet" are found in our world today.

Another reason why I love "When Extremes Meet" is because the entire series studies this topic. The following seasons build off of one another because different extremist ideologies (equality, unity, anarchy, and colonialism) all meet one another, and change the world in some different way.

I also love "When Extremes Meet" because of the events right before and during the battle between Korra and Tarrlok. The conversation up until the battle is full of tension as both Tarrlok and Korra are fighting for what they want. Additionally, it mirrors and shows Korra's character development at the end of book 4 when she speaks to Kuvira; in "When Extremes Meet", Korra refuses to acknowledge that she and her enemy (Tarrlok) are similar, but by the end of book 4, Korra is able to empathize with her antagonist. And of course, the bending fight is extremely (pun unintended) well done.

Tell me your thoughts on what your favorite non-season finale episode is and why! Although I love "Beginnings" as a close 2nd, let us try to focus on Korra's own story!

Is "argument to moderation" a logical fallacy?

Bear with me here. I was having a conversation recently about conspiracy theories and stuff, and we got to talking about logical fallacies and how ubiquitous they are in discourse nowadays. And that got me thinking: Would "argument to moderation", I.e. that every point of view must be moderated by the serious consideration of an opposite point of view, be considered a logical fallacy? I thought it seemed likely, but I wasn't sure.

To give an example of what this would look like, imagine talking to a Covenant-breaker who says stuff like "yeah, sure, 'Abdu'l-Baha is the Centre of the Covenant and all, but dude, you should also consider Muhammad-Ali's point of view, otherwise you look like an extremist. Don't you want to show moderation in all things?"

You might find that example a little extreme (pun intended), so here's a different example: You and a friend are talking about spiritual habits. You say you do your best to say the long obligatory prayer when you forget to say the short one at noon. Your friend says that the long prayer is way too long and that he doesn't worry about skipping obligatory prayers, because he knows he'll try his best to say the prayer the next day. When you tell him that that defeats the point of an "obligatory" prayer, he tells you not to be such a "fanatic" about it.

Thoughts?

I really wish i had art skills

I had an idea for a comic featuring Toriel calling to asriel and frisk, saying "come on kids, time to go" and the two going "okay mom" "yeah we're coming" and sans is standing off on the sides saying "heh heh heh..." next panel is showing papyrus next to sans saying "what's so funny sans?" and sans is like "oh, its nothing" panel after that says "2 weeks later" and its papyrus in bed, sleeping peacefully, and the final panel is him sitting straight up with his angry face saying "wait a goddamn minute!" because in this scenario i would imagine papyrus using profanity only in the event of extreme injury or extreme pun usage.
