A list of puns related to "Ennoble"
In Russia, certain medals traditionally carry personal or hereditary nobility with them, and so did certain ranks in the military and in the bureaucracy. For example, upon promotion to Colonel, you became a hereditary nobleman. A special Letter Patent from the Emperor was not required, you simply signed up with your local nobility council or college of arms upon showing proof of fulfilling the conditions and automatically became a noble. In fact, some Russian nobility associations accept people who descend in the direct male line from somebody who got a medal or reached a rank that gave nobility but did not register it. And Maria Vladimirovna, one of the main pretenders, seldom directly ennobles people but rather gives out the traditional medals that constitute the recipients noblemen, albeit unfortunately in a very inflationary way.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of "automatic" ennoblements, as they occured in the past in Russia and other countries. A person might make a good Colonel or General, but that doesn't mean that he would make a good noble.
I prefer for a monarch or pretender to give out nobility directly, through letters patent. Ennobling medals should not be inflationary and only given to few people every year.
Never should anybody solely for serving a certain number of years or reaching a certain rank receive the right to be ennobled. It should always be an individual decision by a commission that throughoutly examines the candidate, and of the Monarch who composes and signs the Letter Patent clearly stating the new name, style, title and coat of arms.
If you are Sovereign of a major country and think that it would be too tedious to manually review all the nominations due to their sheer number, then your system is obviously too easy and there might already be too many nobles.
What is your opinion?
EDIT: I created a poll https://strawpoll.de/rf75z84
Assume that Continental Salic Law applies, e.g. all children of a noble father are nobles (and automatically become nobles at the moment he is granted nobility), but the children of a commoner father and noble mother are commoners.
EDIT 2: Illegitimate children are commoners even if their father is a King or Emperor, it is up to him to fully legitimize them, give them a lower title or leave them commoners.
Which of the following people would you ennoble (or not) and why? If you don't want to ennoble some of them right now but would agree to give them a chance, what would you demand from them if you invited them for lunch to discuss the terms of nobilitation?
The list:
An officer, 53 years old, born into a very poor family, described by subordinates as "somewhat proletarian" in his manners but nevertheless a good leader respected and worshipped by the soldiers. Served the country honorably for 30 years and won multiple important battles. He personally hand-wrote a letter to you, in which he says that his sons and grandsons would be "compelled to become better people and serve you better than I did" if he is given a title, and signed it with "Your Majesty's most humble servant".
A start-up founder who donates a lot to charity and wants to marry a young countess, whose father doesn't want his daughter to lose nobility upon marrying a commoner and wants her kids to be noble as well as he doesn't have any sons and his family might die out in the male line. The start-up founder is just 27 years old, somebody that young was never ennobled in your country before. He is asking for your permission to be adopted by his girlfriend's father and combine his and her name, becoming a count in the process. While you are convinced that his intentions and the love for the countess are sincere, some old nobles you invited for a hunt last week voiced their protest. They say that "a commoner always stays a commoner", are skeptical of "new money" and believe that "the guy is just in for the title anyway".
A Nobel Prize winner best described as a real "mad scientist". A very eccentric man of 40 years who is known to walk around his hometown dressed as a clown and scaring children but nevertheless made some discoveries that you fail to understand because you're allergic to math but your Minister of Science praises as "revolutionary" and your Minister of Defence seems to be very interested in as well.

So obviously the Monarch can ennoble almost anyone to be a Duke, gifting then lands and titles, etc.
However there isn't a great deal of Crown Land in the United Kingdom proper, however we do have a LOT of Crown Land in Australia....
So if Her Majesty, or in the future, His Majesty, gift Australian Crown Land to someone they ennoble as a Duke?
For example: could the queen of England or king of Sweden bestow a title on or knight a citizen from a foreign country? Would it be recognized by their home country? I seem to remember Steven Spielberg being knighted, but the US government does not recognize titles of nobility for US citizens?

Currently the game has 1 dedicated game designer and myself. I am looking for an additional game designer that is reliable and willing to help shape the project into something great the players will enjoy. You would be assigned certain tasks relating to game design and would not be involved in writing code. The game will be on Desktop platforms and will be published on Steam. If you are free and willing to commit seriously to something (6-12 months scale) then I believe this is a great opportunity for any designer to start fresh in a supportive and focused environment. I am looking for dedicated, passionate, proactive, committed people willing to commit upwards of 30 hrs/week to game design.
The game will have TD, action and strategy elements and I am expecting somebody with solid understanding of these genres. The project is currently in the prototype state and features are currently being added actively. Currently all art is placeholders so I will not include the screenshots here, but a good deal of features are completed and I will answer about that in private.
I'm not often on this forum, let me know if you're interested on pcbastion[at]gmail[dot]com. You can find a bit more data about us on my site (www.ennoble-studios.com). This project is going to be much bigger and better than any previosu one for us. If you aren't quite sure if this is the right place for you, don't hesitate to send me an email and I'll answer your questions.
I am offering a 2 week warm-up period. This will serve as a training grounds to get you acclimated to our working procedures and standards and see if you're the adequate profile that we're looking for. If it doesn't work beyond that period for me or you, no hard feelings, and everyone will move on. I am approaching this form the perspective of both parties evaluating if this collaboration is a good fit.
I am offering profit share on project completion. We pay close attention to financial payoff of the project and as a game designer it will be one of your duties to steer further towards that.
Previous game design experience to some degree is required, either through formal education or even better through completed previous projects. The emphasis on this project is away from story and characters and towards game mechanics and cr
