Unaware Testing for Educational DS?

When I was in middle school I remember we had big carts rolled into class, the same kind school computers would be in. However inside were numbered DS’s, at least once a week for a month or so we would play on these consoles. I could identify them as a DS at the time but it was different, chunkier in a way. After we played with them they were locked up tight. They specified the importance of not damaging, stealing, or losing the console. Does anyone else have a similar experience to this one?

How do we, as a society, meaningfully and justly approach the striking disparities in metrics (income, educational attainment, school standardized testing results, etc) between people of different races?

Probably the argument I have heard the most when it comes to the question of why Asian Americans do so well in many metrics (and notably I have heard this argument from people Left, Right, and Center) is that immigration policies in the 1960s-1990s basically meant that the only people immigrating to the US from China/Japan/Korea/India were people in medicine, high-tech fields, etc. And the argument goes that it is then just natural (by genetics and home atmosphere) that their kids are likewise more gifted and studious etc.

But I am not fully convinced that this argument can be used, because no one (outside of, say, the KKK, at least) is making the accompanying argument. If we are to say that Asians in the US are succeeding in a modern economy that values intellect/IQ because their was an intellect/IQ-favoring selective filter on which Asians could gain entry to the US in the first place, then it is notable that the accompanying argument when applied to African-Americans would be considered absurdly racist. Namely, one could theoretically argue using that exact same logic that in the 1600s until the 1860s there was a selective filter on which West Africans were brought to this land (first the Colonies, later the US) that favored physical strength/endurance, lower intellect, and lower personal independence.

Now I am not personally arguing that point about Black Americans, insofar as I am not personally trying to say β€œThis would help explain why Black Americans nowadays earn less and score lower on standardized tests” etc.

My question though is why does the argument garner such easy popular support in this country whereas the exact same logical framework, when applied to the descendants of slaves, would be shouted out of any room as vile racism? And then the follow up is: if you reject that framework for explaining poor outcomes for Black people in the US, can you still coherently use it to explain superior outcomes for Asian people in the US?

FreePBX in Oracle Cloud for Testing and Educational Use

I've been trying to do this for several weeks now and I can't seem to get FreePBX installed on an Oracle Instance, I can get Asterisk installed but I cannot get the FreePBX WebGUI working.

Any help on this would be great! Thanks.

Edit: I have figured it out using a docker container running Debian, I have it working now. Thanks for the support and Digital Ocean isn’t a bad option at all!

Educational Testing

Hoping for recommendations on places for educational testing for a 20 year old. ADD is already confirmed but potentially reading issues and more. They are not in school so utilizing school resources is unfortunately not an option. They have a therapist with a successful relationship unfortunately these services are not offered through the practice. Thinking the process was stalled or incomplete or amazing compensatory skills took over during childhood Really hoping to get answers and a path forward for a less stressful and happy adulthood. Appreciate any suggestions esp near/in Nola. Thank you in advance!

Do we ever have to do factor analysis in educational testing?

Factor analysis is common in psychometric tests but in education it is kind of obvious which item measures math and which item measures English. Do we ever have the need to factor analysis in educational testing?

[Repost][Academic] Testing my educational game about logic (16+)

For my master's thesis in computer science I have made an educational chess-based video game to teach first-order logic: a system of logic used in computing theory and maths. From my responses so far people have found the game fun to play. The survey should only take 5 - 10 minutes and playing the game can take as long as you want, you can play as few or as many levels as you wish, you can even skip the tutorial. Th survey can not be taken if you have any impairments that limit your understanding or communication.

Here is a link to them game itself (can be playing in a browser or download, but not on mobile sadly)

And here is the survey.

Thank you : )

Educational Testing

Those of you that give education testing for triennials, initial qualifications to (KTEA etc)... how do you manage to keep a work life balance? When do you write the report?

I’m struggling because this is my first year doing testing and I find I have ZERO time to devote to writing the report, scoring etc unless I take it home.

I’ve always tried to keep all my work at school and not work on the weekends unless I have to because I already come in super early and leave work late. But this year there’s no way I can get things done if I don’t take stuff home.

I’m sure writing reports will become easier the more I do them but right now it’s like pulling teeth! I feel like I’m back in college procrastinating writing a paper!

What works for you?!
