A list of puns related to "Edema"
[Spoilers]
We already know that the Edema Ruh have a loose definition of "family," but I was listening to the audio the other day and thought it was strange how Kvothe calls the woman in the fake Ruh woman "Mother." In Kvothe's Edema Ruh story that he told to Wil and Simmon, the Ruh children call the old man "Grandfather." Since there isn't a typical family unit, it seems like mother, father, grandmother, grandfather are not used based on literal family connection, but more like their age and perhaps role within the troupe. So are Laurian and Arliden Kvothe's biological parents? Does he call them mother and father because they are his actual mother and father? Or because of tradition? Or because he believes them to be his parents, even if they are not?
A lot of people have noticed that both of Kvothe's parents are described as having dark hair, so it seems unlikely that Kvothe would have "true red hair." Then there is Arliden's joke about the wandering god.
In stories, the Edema Ruh are also stereotyped as kidnappers who steal children out of their beds. A lot of the fairytales mentioned involve "orphan boys" that have similarities to Kvothe. We naturally assume any apparent connection between Kvothe and these orphan boys must be because of the Chandrian killing his parents. But what if he had been an orphan even before that? Maybe the Edema Ruh really do kidnap children. Or, maybe they are on the run, trying to protect Kvothe. Kvothe has a lot of similarities to Zeus, who was believed to be dead by his father Cronus. While he was in hiding as a child, a group of traveling musicians and dancers helped to hide Zeus from his father.
However, I do think Kvothe is probably related to Laurian. When Denna points this out, Kvothe interrupts her and before she says they change color he says he "got them from his mother." Kvothe could mean he got the green and gold eye color from his mother, or he could have guessed that she was going to say they change colors and meant that her eyes changed colors, too. So far, we don't know for sure whether the changing eye color is hereditary or not. It could be a hereditary thing or it could be connected to naming or shaping. Alternatively, Kvothe could mean "eyes" in a metaphorical sense, as in "sight." This could be a subtle reference to Laurian being a watcher or a see-er. I'm leaning towards Kvothe being Laurian's son, but not Arliden's.
Finally, there are two quotes that always stand out to me but I haven't see
... keep reading on reddit β‘Does anyone know about edema, cellulite, or painful chunks in their fat, or fascial tissue? Yeah... So it's flared up two winters in a row now, where i swell up ~ 5-15 lbs overnight, and then get extra lumpy bumpy chunks in my fat. It's predominantly in my extremities, but also lower stomach. And to clarify, I'm a stout healthy weight, with plenty of bluecollar muscle, and am quite young. Some lumps feel pea sized, some are a little wider than a quarter. They are only visible above my knees, or of i pull the flesh back (like by grabbing my forearm and gently twisting so the skin is taut). My legs especially feel hard, like heavily bruised washboards, or as if i swole up, and then the extra fluid froze in there, lol. It is only really painful when It's cold, and gets worse after a bout of swelling, but is fairly consistently bumpy. My friend said it was probably just cellulite, and though i don't know much about it, i usually associate cellulite with external puckering of the skin, while as this effects the skin very minimally, considering how expansive the effected area is.
Can anyone tell me what this is and if it's worth asking a doctor about or if I'm just overreacting? Thanksβ€οΈ
The wiki says they are cultural although in the first book Elodin just sort of knows that Kvothe is ruh when Kvothe is trying to convince Elodin to make him a student of his. Did kvother mention it earlier during the Less Talents chapter? Those are actually my two favorite chapters.
My wife has been diagnosed with babesia (via blood smear and microscope) and bartonella (4 species, via blood test). Sheβs had it for over 20 years, based on symptoms. Finally have a diagnosis. Yay. No Lyme, oddly enough.
Initial treatment was atovaquone and azithromycin. That made her feel unrelenting awful, with zero improvement. After four months, I made her quit. Sheβs trying other ways to attack the bugs now.
My question:
She has retained 60 pounds of water since starting the atovaquone and azithromycin. 125 lbs to 185 lbs. All the water just adds to the misery. It hasnβt come off even after switching off those drugs. Has anyone else had this happen? Any idea why? Any idea how to reverse it?
"Sounds a lot like the Edema Ruh."
Gets at some of the underlying dynamic of why a life of travel may have been the best of options.
>How a secret European language βmade a rabbitβ and survived
They started out as apprentices looking for masters, students looking for teachers, or soldiers looking for wars, but they ended up as traveling tinkers, peddlers, beggars and thieves, members of the itinerant underground of central Europe. Carrying forged papers and false names, they were feared by peasants, shunned by burghers and hunted by the police. Catholics and Protestants, Jews, Sinti and Roma β they had little in common, neither bonds of religion nor ethnicity, except for the life into which they had drifted, the life of the road.

33 year old male. Just over two months since testing positive. Does anyone feel as if they have fluid build up in there legs. The only experience I have had pre covid with this was swollen calves after rigorous cardiovascular activity. This is a new symptom for me that began earlier this week.
Has anyone had edema from excessive weight gain? If so, how did you physically, mentally and neurological feel after the sleeve was done, in the months after.
I have bad edema in my abdominal area and lower left leg mostly, but I feel so defeated that this surgery won't do much good and the feeling is overwhelming to say the least.
I take diuretics and it helps mildly, but not completely, so looking for people who have had this type of obesity issue and your journey.
Thanks! I love this group and read postings often.
Youβve probably seen something like this on the sub: βAdem/Edema/Adamah is (Hebrew = βearthβ)β or βClay = adamah (Hebrew for βground, earthβ)β But thereβs a lot more to the Hebrew language than that. I want to to flesh out the Hebrew connections that Iβve seen in kkcwhiteboard and to provide a more comprehensive foundation for incorporating Hebrew language connections in KKC content. At the very least, there's some neat linguistic trivia here.
Two Quick Notes:
Roots and Vowels - Shorashim and Nekudot
To break down a hebrew word we look at four things, though weβre interested in the first three:
Unlike English where vowels are just a subset of letters alongside consonants, in Hebrew, only a few letters (Χ, Χ, Χ, Χ, Χ’) carry the open sounds of English vowels. A majority of vowel sounds are represented by non-letter characters called βNekudot.β So a sequence of consonants AND their vowels/nekudot are what form a word. This is important because a word can essentially be spelled the same way, but its meaning is changed by its vowelsβ¦ sound familiar?
> βThat is my name. Vashet. The Hammer. The Clay. The Spinning Wheel.β She pronounced her name three separate ways, each with its own cadence. βI am that which shapes and sharpens, or destroys.β
(Edit: posting an example that I wrote out in the comments) Here's how the vowels (nekkudot) in a word can change its meaning despite the letters used staying the same.
ΧΧͺΧ β (Root word: to write)
Katav ΧΦΌΦΈΧͺΦ·Χ β (He) wrote
Katav ΧΦΌΦ·ΧͺΦΌΦΈΧ β A reporter
K'tav ΧΦΌΦ°ΧͺΦΈΧ β Script (handwriting, manuscript)
So with that in mind, we can get into Adam/Adom/Adem/Adamah
The root of the word is this set of letters: Χ, Χ, Χ β aleph, dalet, and mem β A, D, M. Letβs see how many meanings we can get out of the word just by 'pronouncing' it in separate ways (only by changing the nekudot/vowels).
The good news is, I think I'm actually legitimately in recovery. The bad news is, I am having really, really horrible edema (mostly in legs/feet). I actually have had issues with this for many years totally unrelated to ED, because of cardiac problems from an autoimmune disorder. I already take a prescription diuretic, but that's not even helping now.
For those who experienced this, how long did it last? Did you do anything to help reduce it, eg eat less salt or anything?
My spouse is 36 years old and T1. A few weeks ago he started experiencing a visual disturbance (wavy lines). Today he saw the eye doctor and they said he has macular edema. Heβs due to see a retinal specialist in about a month, canβt get in sooner.
Weβre both worried of course and not really sure how/if this is treatable. Has anyone experienced this issue and had success with any treatment or lifestyle adjustment? Heβs feeling depressed and seems to be giving up hope.
I cannot find an answer to this for love nor money, all I can ever seem to find is the usual βEdema is a symptom of heart failureβ
I realise Edema is caused by heart failure but what I am asking is - If Edema was left untreated whilst it continues to get worse, would it eventually make the heart failure even worse through weakening the heart (as the heart is working harder)
I am assuming the answer is yes judging by how quick the hospital medical staff seem to start putting in IV diuretics to drain it.
Thanks
NOTE: Called Edema in the US but also called Oedema in the UK (Or have I got that the wrong way round?)
Anyone else get full body swelling followed by large knots or lumps in their tissue? My skin looks normal and unaffected, although I'm about 10 pounds heavier than usual, and if i press on my legs, arms, hips, or stomach, it's painful like a terrible bruise or cut, and there are hard, articulated ripples, chunks, bumps, pea sized knobs and blobs all in the flesh. I'm used to a weekly day of swelling that then goes down, but this has been a week or more of increasing knots that have spread from my thighs to all around my body and I'm starting to be kind of concerned, after my previously small waist became an asymmetrical log from all the swelling and lumps, I'm worried how far it will go, or if i should try to intervene somehow.
My beautiful mother in law (mom, really) was diagnosed 2 months ago with stage 3.
For the past 6 weeks, sheβs had significant edema from her toes to her hips.
Then a few weeks ago, she developed fluid in her trunk (ascites/ third spacing).
A few days ago her visiting nurse heard fluid on her lungs and today said itβs increased.
Her legs began weeping today.
How much longer did your loved one have when they had fluid like this?
This sucks.
I guess itβs not a noticeable as I FEEL it is, but thatβs just it, I feel it. My cheeks are slightly puffier. Do any of you guys also experience this, and if so, what do you do to help?
I recently visited a retinal specialist after my regular eye doctor diagnosed what he called a "macular hole" as the source of the relatively mild visual distortion in my right eye. The retinal specialist said that it was actually a macular pucker, accompanied by cystoid macular edema, and caused by traction on an epiretinal membrane. The OCT (attached; this is from my regular eye doctor who I saw a little over a month ago) sure looks like a lamellar macular hole to me (obviously a non-expert), but either way, it seems like it's not a huge deal. A vitrectomy sounds like it might create more problems than it would solve at this stage, so I don't think I'll get surgery for it unless it gets much worse.
During the exam at the retina clinic, which was kind of rushed, I failed to ask the question which has been weighing on me: given that these issues are fairly uncommon at my age (I'm a 32 year old female), should I be worried about underlying conditions that might cause other vision issues down the road? Or do these things show up in plenty of young-ish adults who then go on to have no other vision problems? I'm generally healthy and have no health issues that I know of, although I did have COVID over a year ago. I'm only moderately myopic (-3.5 in the affected eye) and have lattice degeneration. I have spent a long time training for a profession that requires 20/20 vision in at least one eye, so the possibility that something could compromise my vision, and thus my career, is keeping me up at night.
My dog (13 years of age) is suffering from pulmonary edema. The vet says thereβs a 99% possibility that the dog will pass away in a few hours and suggests putting it down. Is he trying to avoid work or this diagnosis as serious as he had described?
Okay, this is more of a musing than any real grounded theory. And I use a mobile app and the search function is atrocious, I came to read others theories not post my own but I couldn't find anything so apologies if this is a commonly posted theory/question
In WMF, Kvothe tells a story to Simm and Will when they stop at the greystone on a walk back from Imre. In the story a begger stops at multiple fires and meets people from different cultures where he is turned away or ignored until eventually being greeted warmly by the Ruh. But the story doesn't get a single thing right about any of the cultures it depicts "no offense Will, it's just how the story goes"
The Caeldish are depicted as unkind and greedy and all about gold and coins. Will and master Kilven are the two main Caeldish people we meet in the novels and they are some of the most gracious and caring people the story has to offer.
The Adem are described as being silent and that they use the Lethani as an armour by keeping their words inside etc. But when Kvothe spends time with Tempi he learns they are not silent but mostly use a sign language and later we learn that the Lethani is something else entirely. I don't have the book handy but you get the gist. (He also meets an Amyr who is righteous and just etc which ties into a few other theories if the theme is being wrong about people)
What if, following this thread, what is said about the Ruh being generous and kind to the beggar is also not correct? Aside from his own troupe, the only other 'Ruh' Kvothe has ever met are the people he meets later in Wise Man's Fear that are revealed to be anything but kind.
It's a stretch I know, but it's just interesting that people within the context of the story have pretty terrible opinions of the Ruh and the only other "troupe" kvothe meets are basically true to the reputation. It might be that Kvothe's family were the exception rather than the rule.
This is a lot of sleepy rambling, I was just curious what others thoughts were.
Iβve recently been diagnosed with rosacea and treating it has been a disaster. Metrogel dried out my skin, finacea burned me completely dehydrated my skin and made it more red. Iβm now left with a swollen thicken skinned forehead (glabell region) that has never been there before I started trying to treat. What has worked for people to bring down the raised area and decrease the thickness? I think my last resort is soolantra. Anybody have success with it?
I just had my 6 month eye exam and it shows a healing spot of inflammation and swelling. I ahve had microaneurysms here and there over my 24 years being type 1 but never swelling. My sight is a bit impaired from it as well. Should I be freaking out? I have a referral to an opthalmologist in a month to look further. This is new to me I am terrified I'll lose my sight.
Had a medic tell me today that heβs given mag for pulmonary edema. While trying to run this through my mind it misfired and all I could think was βI wanna see the protocol that allows you to do thisβ. Seeing as how pulmonary edema can be a negative side effect of mag sulfate can someone please explain what, if any logic could be behind this?
Would giving nmn to a senior help them?
I'm 5"8 260lbs
During the long lockdown I gained 40lbs(have since lost 35) and developed Stasis Dermatitis from lack of activity. Since returning to work, the Stasis Dermatitis has subsided but I was left with brown patches on the insides of both inner legs by the ankles. Yesterday I finally had an appointment with a dermatologist and was diagnosed with pitting edema.
My legs hurt when pressure is applied to the area and with firm pressure I have pits that immediately subside after release. I am going to talk to my primary about kidney blood work and an echo on my heart, but in the meantime should I look into switching from 10mg of amlodipine to another class of BP meds as I've read amlodipine can actually cause leg swelling and may plausibly make it more difficult to get the swelling down. Any help would be greatly appreciated in this regard. Thank you, kindly.
Hi guys need help!! I was partially circumcised and it's been around 2 weeks PO and i have developed edema on the foreskin there is a donut swelling! The surgeon said its common and movement of the foreskin would reduce it but unfortunately I am finding it difficult to move the skin up over the glan coz of the swelling no pain as such just that the swelling is making it immobile. My stiches have been removed but the swelling is causing a concern on my mental health. I have been dabbing it with gauze and hot water and applying 2% lox jelly to move it. Have any one of you faced a similar problem. Hope it's nothing serious!!
Iβve been waking up thinking I pissed the bed. Turns out itβs night sweats. Iβm only on day 6 of (inconsistently) nourishing myself again and the night sweats are horrible.
The edema is also really bad too. In only a few days, my chest is spilling out of my bra, my butt feels tight in my pants, and I have a layer on my belly. It also feels like I have the flu from the water retention body aches.
I also am needing to rest after meals.
Experiences with these symptoms?
Hello, before I start this post I would like to thank anyone who took his time to give an advice. My girlfriend (F22,lives in central europe) got periorbital lymphedema a year ago,the cause is unknown.Shes been to various doctors and she undergone various treatments antibiotics doxicycline, klyndamicine it didnt help, she took antihistaminics also didnt help, she also did MR,multiple CTs nothing significant and relevant was found. What we know is that her bloodwork is normal, eosinophils are slightly elevated. We know that its not a parasite, lyme disease,HIV,lupus, dermatomyositis, she took oral corticosteroids various doses up to 25mg and there was improvementβ¦now shes off the corticosteroids and it came back.We are clueless and desperate since it affects her everyday life.Any help, ideas, advices are more than welcome.Thank you!
Hello everyone! So I'm a 36 year old male and I do have underlying health conditions. I have PKD (polycystic kidney disease). I'm sure most of you have not heard of this. It's a genetic condition where you get many and often large cysts all over your kidneys which rupture and cause kidney failure. (Life expectancy is 55 for me, best case scenario. Nah I'm not after sympathy, just advice :) Also have cysts and small mass on the liver and Heart condition from the PKD. I was prescribed opiates for my kidney pain and chronic kidney stones. Been on them for 7 months and decided I wanted to take a break so quit them 6 days ago. Doctor prescribed me gabapentin (not pregablin) and clonidine. I'm taking 600mg gabapentin 3 times a day and I'm only taking half a .01mcg dose of the clonidine as needed. ( Not sure if any of these are contributing to symptoms)
Was tired of feeling so lethargic and weak and had used Phenibut in the past. (Was healthier then) I'm not taking high doses of the phenibut, I don't feel. Dose would be one maybe two capsules (300mg each so 600mg total) first thing in the AM with 2 cups of coffee. Then if I'm feeling sluggish in the late afternoon I'll take one 300mg capsule. Sometimes I don't even take that.... It feels like a decently low dose compared to what I took the last time I took phenibut. I've only taken phenibut for 2 days. Any advice or info if anyone else has taken phenibut or if I should totally avoid it since I have kidney and heart disease? Thank you all in advance! :)
